Nice find. But the big whopper, 2nd amendment to the US constitution, is missing from the list.

Why is the 2nd amendment a dumb law?
It helps when people can back up their comments with substantive prose.

The 2nd amendment isn't that dumb when taken in the original context, and understood as the provision to maintain a conscript military force.

My humble opinion is that it is a dumb law, in its current context. The existence of the law perpetuates the idea that you, as a citizen, are permitted to carry a firearm and use it against a fellow citizen.

Again, my really very, very humble opinion is that violence is best left institutionalised.

to put that back INto context, you are permitted to carry a firearm and use it against a fellow citizen if said fellow citizen is actively engaged in robbing you specifically of your right to pursue life and liberty.

I do understand your point, however, and agree that it is warped a bit.  But so is everything in the constitution.  It's original intent and spirit has long since been abandoned in favor of exploiting the exact wording to best suit the reader at the time.

I just went to that site and wanted to see if there was anything for Belgium, found only 1 thing:

A driver who needs to turn through oncoming traffic has the right of way unless he slows down or stops.

Which is made up.

I must've missed that part of the Second Amendment encouraging use against another citizen.

should be allowed guns.

You are painfully ignorant about our heritage of gun rights.
American is as free as it is BECAUSE of an armed citizenry.
imop, owning a gun is not a choice, it's my patriotic duty.

Did you check out the international dumb laws on that link?

Here's a few tasters:

"Raising a pig on Israeli soil will result in the murder of said pig." - Israel

"It is forbidden to bring bears to the beach." - Israel

"No loud voices or big lights are allowed during weekends." - Israel

"There is no age of consent." - Japan

"Oral sex is illegal unless it is used as a form of foreplay." - Singapore

"As it is considered pornographic, you may not walk around your home nude." - Singapore

"A life sentence is 25 years." - Australia

I fully agree with you on these points.

However, it may have escaped you that the level, and kind, of freedom America has achieved is not quite up to everyone's standards.

In my community, firing a gun at a fellow citizen is considered an excessive response, regardless of the circumstances. So, we don't point guns at each other. Even the criminals and maniacs avoid it at all costs. Well, crazies aren't big on the logical behaviour thing, but hey, they don't have easy access to firearms.

You're free to carry, yes, but I am free from the fear and suspicion that causes you to pack a gun.

Therefore, my bag of Freedom is bigger than yours.

Are you living someplace that is more free than America?

Well duh, of course pointing a gun at someone is an excessive responce.  It's never happened to me.

If you are truely free from fear and suspicion that is likely because you are a sheltered youth still living with your parents. The reality is that the world is a hard cruel place.
I own several guns. Because i have two children, they are packed away in the attic except when I go to target shoot. I feel safe enough in my community to sleep with the windows open and my guns unloaded and put away. I keep my arsenal around in case the government ever infringes on my rights or family in an immoral way. If that day ever comes, people like me are those that will keep America free.

Statistically speaking, in the context of crime, you're wrong.

OK.

We seem to have no difference of opinion on the proper use and storage of firearms.

This is one of the more interesting arguments for civilian gun ownership. How you will do this, should the day ever come? Most likely, the government that does the infringing will still be in charge of the police force, the National Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force etc...
