If this is like Star Wars, I guess i have to wait for episode 7 to see where the American public got their rights and freedoms back from govt. just like after WW2 was won. Or, like your hero Jimmy, are you going to deny that American rights and previllges were curtailed and censorship ans spying was increased during those war years??=SA=VaSSiLi wrote:

All you have to do is watch maybe .. Episode 2 and 3 of Star Wars to see the direction things like this can move in. The leaders of the countries get "emergency powers" to "protect" the country. But once the threat is gone, these people do not want to let go of their emergency powers. And where is the line drawn with their emergency powers. Sure you dont mind phone taps, because they seem so harmless, but do you want a secret service operative standing over your shoulder while you sit in your home with your family eating dinner? Granted its not that drastic yet but whats to stop them?
Now who is the fascist? That is exactly the blind "come hither" that the conservatives are expecting the the "Christian at all costs" to just follow on their way to the Nazism of the new America.lowing wrote:

It's just one more step down the slippery slope. We made a constitution for a reason and it cannot be bypassed.

Oh i know it doesn't sound like much now, but give it a hundred years and it will catch on.
I'd rather deal with terrorists.

Rather than deal with every freedom of this country going by the wayside? Oh yeah, I'll take the terrorists every time.SgtSlauther wrote:

Every time we give up a freedom in the name of so called safety, the terrorsts win...it's that simple.
Just to let everyone know, Nazis are socialists. This history lesson brought to you by Coca Cola.

I said before I have no problem with it, just get the warrent. There is no good reason for them not to other than usuing the ability for reaosns they don't tell the public.lowing wrote:

It isn't to help keep you safe it is to control as much of society as possible. That is dictatorship. Why do you believe that if the government DOESN'T tap your phone you are going to die? It doesn't make any sense I want them you listen to my phone calls so that I don't die. As stated earlier if they have made a connection to terrorism they can tap the phone right away and only get the warrant 72 hours later. Unwarranted wiretaps serve no purpose other than to render useless the first and fourth amendments to the constitution and bring the country closer to fascism.
What part of this don't you dumb ass fuckers understand. Once we give up those freedoms, they are never returned. Do I need to quote that often over-quoted Ben Franklin bit?
I never said they couldn't do it, they just need to do it legally...GET A FUCKING WARRANT!Phantom2828 wrote:

It is a total joke to say our freedom is ebbing away. They can't even disarm us and they wouldn't dare to try, They don't need to. Accept for a few lost, hippie dipshits, We are all on the same page when it comes to terrorist. Their are a few scums who are betting their political careers ( or lack of ) on the down fall of our country at the expense of our fighting men and women overseas. The whole thing is blown way out of proportion, It reminds me of " the plight of the homeless " Which mysteriously ended November 7th 1992
The main reason that wiretapping bothers me, is not because they can hear anything they want about me, for no real reason, it's that as someone said before, you're getting on to that slippery slope of freedoms, and once you start moving down it, you pick up pace pretty face, until we're all living in a 1984 type world. We're not as far off it as you might think.
true all true. hope for the best and stay armed
And we all know our dear friend lowing has much more credibility than Ben Franklin.lowing wrote:

Finally the truth (and name calling) comes out. Leave this guy alone, he's more than likely just spewing out all the rhetoric passed to him by someone trying to get their radio ratings up. As soon as the words "liberal" and "conservative" come out like insults, it's time to tune out. People like this have already made up their minds regardless of the facts.Phantom2828 wrote:

No one denies the curtailing of liberties during WWII. It's just that WWII actually had a mission to be completed, and once it was you knew the war was over. Hitler was defeated, Mussolini was defeated, Hirohito was defeated. Yayz the war is over now we can go home and things can go back to normal.lowing wrote:

This war has no set goal, just the end of terrorism, which will never happen, therefore the loss of these liberties can go on forever, something you don't seem to be able to understand.
Tell me how this war can be won like WWII was won and i'll agree that the curtailing of liberties in both cases is the same, but we both know that can't be done and this war will continue indefinitely.
Perhaps, but it would be a great fallacy to assume that an armed society isn't.M1-Lightning wrote:

Assuming that, if an unarmed society is obedient, then an armed society is not, would be a great fallacy.
And please, I don't fear guns, I only know that our society would be safer without them.
For starters, you and people like you can cut the crying and get behind the effort and show some solidarity, instead of showing our enemies that this country is divided and weak with no stomach for defending ourselves.JimmyBotswana wrote:

And you expect this to make terrorists to stop and say to themselves "Well gee, those folks in America, sure are all supporting each other, and generally being all patriotic, let's stop blowing them up, and go watch football" or something?lowing wrote:
