On September 4, 2006 shortly after 11:00 AM local time, Irwin was killed in a marine accident while filming an underwater documentary in the Batt Reef off the Low Isles near Port Douglas, north of Cairns, Queensland, Australia. It is believed that a stingray barb penetrated his chest causing a fatal wound, though this has yet to be confirmed by Australian officials.

No doubt in his zoo they will build a memorial, and rightly so.

amen! its good to hear things like "i feel sorry for his family" and "adleast he died doing what he liked best"

Sadly some of you have no social skills, (no offence) how would you feel if you were away from home and hours may be days later find out someone you loved had died. at least have some sympathy, personally I think he was nuts to deal with very dangerous animals, and some australians see him as a reclusive wanker. But that doesn't mean that i say "good riddance" when he gets killed.

my thaughs are for his wife and his kid he has left behind. I'm sure he is wrangling all sorts of animals in heaven at the moment.

Good on you mate, you will be greatly missed.

Oddly enough I always thought a croc would get him. Its a terrible shame to see a man who has done so much in his lifetime pass on to the next life. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family tonight.

Damn, that sucks.  My Son and Wife (me too) loved watching that guy..  I'd turn the tv onto the discovery channel and watch "Croc Files" after we all got home from work and daycare.  I learned not to "muck" with various species of wildlife because of him.  Just yesterday, we all watched him play with a cobra.  Well, at least he died doing what he liked.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.  Cheers to the Croc Hunter! You will be missed, and the world is a lesser place without you.....
I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something.  - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.

I used to watch him also, and I'm sure you have already gathered that i respect him emersly.  He done allot of great work teaching others what to do if bitten by a snake, he donated allot to the many Charity's, and its a shame to see such an Aussie icon pass away like that.  My thoughts and Prayers go out to his family also.

May Steve Irwin Rest in Peace.
