I will say that I am bothered by the overall sinophobia going on right now. What annoys me is how it bleeds into everything else. I think China deserves to get called out for unleashing COVID and being a bad neighbor. But I don't want any discussion of China to turn into an airing of grievances or pretending that China hasn't done some amazing things and doesn't have some good qualities. And I greatly resent failures of westerners to get blamed on China. "China steals American jobs!" Like, no. The white guys who own western corporations sent your job to China. "China is hard to do business with!" Like, no. China just protects it's internal market unlike the leaders who regulate ours are supposed to.
This is the same thing when it comes to Islam. There is a lot I like there and a lot I am critical of. But the stuff to be critical about doesn't give you an excuse to show up to protest at a mosque dressed like American Sniper.

How can you not see the connection in disparaging the Chinese for the eating practices of some people, blaming cultural attitudes, calling it the Chinese virus, and an increase in sinophobia...

Even now we're lucky that SARS-CoV-2 may not be as lethal as SARS-CoV. Lucky that something this contagious didn't end up being an even worse virus where the mortality rate is into the middle double digits. We'd still have gun-toting morons protesting on the steps of their state capital and moms staging play-date protests at closed parks, where their kids spread the virus to other kids.
But back to the animals, I think Egypt exterminating pigs was probably unnecessary.
