say what you will about 'SJW twitter', right-wing twitter is an even more fruity place.

wherein a thread of right-wing attorneys and american conservatives talk about 'having had enough' of the glory-seeking, totalitarian hospital staff. the guy posting it is ex-military! you could NOT make this shit up.

I mean that's the general thought in the red heartland. They also say the test for covid-19 is a bad test and can't be trusted. And it's a socialist takeover by China by buying all our stocks at low prices.
the bulls on wall street are afraid that chinese investors are going to be in a stronger position than they this time around for scooping up cheap shares and profiting from disaster. poor them!

They are just upset no one will ever thank a lawyer for their service.

I mean can you imagine a world without lawyers?

One of my friends has a tattoo of his "family coat of arms" from that website that tells you what your name origin is and creates a fake coat of arms for it.

richard is german (pronounced something more like 'rick-harde'). the 'ch' sound is handled very differently. in italian it would be riccardo, or riccy.

maybe 'ritchie' comes from the fact that two cc's in italian are pronounced softly. it's an anglicisation in any case.

Really?

Closest I know of to Italian in the family is a great uncle or such who got gunned down by the mafia during Prohibition.

There aren't a lot of Germans in my area. Every "German" person out here is mixed with Irish and Italian to some extent. Rarely with the Polish though.

Well good news there's Irish in me, just mostly German. I had to do a paper on my ancestry for history class in college and my aunt has done a lot of work on putting together a family tree.

I have had a string of luck with Irish American girls and my favorite bosses who helped my career are Irish. So I have a lot of respect for that community.

The Irish are also willing to kill for the church and I respect that.

Trump to U.S. Postal Service: Drop Dead 4/12
https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/p … ead-982458

[…]

Whether Trump is correct or not about how the Post Office should deal financially with Amazon is beside the point right now. USPS workers are risking their lives during the coronavirus crisis, delivering essentials like prescriptions and food to people in need. And it delivers to remote areas across the country where private delivery services may not reach, making it a lifeline for many. According to the report, 500 postal workers have tested positive for COVID-19 and nineteen have died. If the country can afford the billions sent to the private sector in the relief aid package, saving a service that many Americans rely on seems like something that should be a no-brainer.
Regardless of interpretations of the Postal Clause, I don't think it's a very good idea to shut down or privatize this service.

Jay, you brought up corruption in another thread, right?

mail and package delivery has already been privatized. It's a competitive market. The USPS (a public entity) has been handcuffed by legislative actions that were passed with the explicit intent to destroy the post office. It's clear evidence that even when there are public AND private options in a market, i.e. a healthy, competitive marketplace for logistics, people supposedly for a fREEEEE market still want to limit competition.

It still exists and people are still using it, though. How long that will last is up in the air.

Dr. Fauci is still the most trusted leader in America on the coronavirus, while Trump and Jared Kushner are in last place 4/13

Kushner, who has been operating a different coronavirus task force and began making public statements on behalf of the coronavirus response only recently, received a 4 or 5 from less than 20% of respondents. As the president's son-in-law with no medical experience, Kushner received a 1 or 2 from 47% of respondents.

What fucked the post office wasn't anything overly nefarious. They simply forced the post office to treat their unfunded liabilities as actual liabilities and pay for them. This is why the post office runs deficits every year. It's all their future pension obligations that they have to pony up for now so that they aren't begging for a bailout like Illinois, California and New Jersey will be in 5-10 years when the accounting tricks stop working.

Of course it's not nefarious. Enforcing one entity in a marketplace to abide by a law while not requiring others to follow the same rule is just the free market at work, dude. Are you aware how many private pensions are underfunded or reliant on future earnings?

Remember when American libertarians made a big stink about the USPS being a monopoly, which led to actions to allow for the privatization of mail service, resulting in lower prices to the consumer? Now American libertarians are arguing for government intervention to create market protections for the private sector.

What a time to be alive.

Yes, private companies need to be bailed out, if they're not then the weaker ones will die and there'll be no competition.

Makes perfect sense.

Trump made the argument today that he has complete authority to reopen the states that shut down. He got into an argument with the white House reporters about presidential power. This was in response to the governor's of the West coast and the governor's of the Northeast creating separate committees to coordinate the opening of their economies.

Not a good situation that governors are banding together to defy federal authority like that. How does he plan to force the states to reopen when they say no? And what happens when the virus suddenly spikes?

We will be seeing later this week. We are going to get the headline "Trump fires F-------" followed up later with "Trump orders reopening of the economy"
