The guy running the WHO reminded me of the captain in 'The Caine Mutiny'.
Someone has to do these jobs through the dull times, do all the hard unsung work, then the shit hits the fan and they're on the spot, blinded by the searchlights, criticised from every angle, and they're not always competent in every facet, such as PR.
Also hard to flip from running research and programs over decades to taking decisions hour by hour, usually needs completely different people.

If Trump fires Fauci it could be the point the intelligent people say 'enough', I've had this feeling Trump is going to die when one of his Secret Service agents can't take any more of the idiocy and flips.

Or nothing could happen in which case America truly is fucked.

Then again each state has a governor and a government which is not beholden to the federal government and they seem to be doing practically fuck all also.
Probably they're more concerned about being called pussies and cowards by Fox and whoever Jay listens to than doing whats right for the nation.

as was said above, the federal government has in many cases actively frustrated state-level response. not just in stockpiling resources and withholding others, but also in disallowing approval for testing in the early stages of the outbreak in washington state. the federal government is directly responsible for some majorly botched leadership, several balls dropped, etc.

He means people going to the hospital for things like heart attacks are catching the COVID at the hospital and dying from that. They wouldn't have had the exposure to COVID if they didn't have a heart attack. So the death numbers are a little bit inflated.

I've heard this about China buying up the companies through public shares. I'm not an expert on American securities, but don't shareholders in possession of more than 10% of a firm have to file with the SEC or FCC? Wouldn't we almost immediately know the game if ownership was changing hands in that way? The other reason that's a stupid argument is that when you approach even 25% of a company, you run out of available stock to buy. The argument assumes you can just force someone to sell their shares. You can't. Not unless you undertake a hostile takeover, which, again, is going to end up on the SEC or FCC's desk (again, I don't have enough knowledge to know which).

EDIT - Replace "FCC" with "FTC". It's early.
