Again, it's so reassuring that President Trump wants to make sure the cruise ship industry is carried through these hard times. Such a higher priority than getting auto manufacturers to produce the respirators that hospitals so desperately need these days.

Retooling companies to make an unconnected product in a short timescale is dumb, usually easier to get an existing company to ramp up production.
Ventilators are not jeeps or ammo boxes.

Yes, dilbert. The auto industry is incapable of deemphasizing regular production if need be, bringing in experts and retooling in times of great crisis under contract from the government. Never been done.

Foolish of me to assume.

It would probably be a whole lot quicker to get a vacuum cleaner company to do it.

Dyson and maybe Gtech are on the list. But also so is Ford in cooperation with 3M and GE Healthcare. Probably doomed to fail, right? A VeNtILaToR iS NoT a JeEp.

Or a fan company. I'm sure Greenheck or Cook would make more sense than GM.

Students should probably have been quarantined on their campuses, honestly. Instead, they got released and acted as vectors, bringing it back to their homes.

Awful idea. The colleges would become virus breeding grounds. It's also unlikely that professors would continue to show up for class.

Jerry Falwell is an actual literal cuck. He lets a personal trainer screw his wife. He is also a Trump supporter and does whatever pleases his orange God.

Frost, a 43-year-old Democrat, told me the club’s mix of younger liberals and older conservatives had always gotten along just fine—but the guidelines were proving divisive.

At the driving range, while Frost and his like-minded friends slathered on hand sanitizer and kept six feet apart, the white-haired Republicans seemed to delight in breaking the new rules. They made a show of shaking hands, and complained loudly about the “stupid hoax” being propagated by virus alarmists. When their tee times were up, they piled defiantly into golf carts, shoulder to shoulder, and sped off toward the first hole.
...
The Federalist published a trollish piece proposing “chicken-pox parties” as a model for strategically spreading the coronavirus. Throughout the conservative media, calls to reopen the economy—even if it means sacrificing the sick and elderly—are gaining traction.

“I would rather die than kill the country,” Glenn Beck declared on his radio show.

“Those of us who are 70-plus, we’ll take care of ourselves,” Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick said on Fox News.

Dennis Prager, a conservative commentator, even compared outbreak-mitigation efforts to Nazi appeasement: “That attitude, that the only value is saving a life … it leads to cowardice. It has to. No one can die? Then it’s not a war.”
...
Katherine Vincent-Crowson, a 35-year-old self-defense instructor from Slidell, Louisiana, has watched in horror this month as businesses around her city were forced to close by state decree. A devotee of Ayn Rand, Vincent-Crowson told me Louisiana’s shelter-in-place order was a frightening example of government overreach.

“It feels very militaristic,” she said. “I’m just like, ‘What the hell, is this 1940s Germany?’”

But when we spoke, she seemed even more aggravated by the “self-righteous” people on social media who spend their time publicly shaming anyone who isn’t staying locked in their house. “It really reminds me of my kids who tattle on their siblings when they do something bad,” she said. “I’m a libertarian … I don’t really like being told what to do.”

I can't wrap my head around the notion that people prefer him over literally anyone else. No-one , current or past candidates, would be even close to the international embarrassment Donald Trump is. His performance is disgraceful every step of the way. Literally anyone would've been smarter and more dignified than this narcissistic a-hole.

I actually respect the work the governor of NY is doing. I live so close to Manhattan (closer than Jay in fact) that his press conferences are always on T.V. I do not watch anything Trump says because it is all lies.
New York governor Andrew Cuomo is seeing a massive boost in popularity among state residents during the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic, according to a new Siena College poll.

“In the midst of this global pandemic, New Yorkers approve of Governor Cuomo’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic with near universal support,” said pollster Steven Greenberg. “At least 85 percent of voters from every region approve of his handling of the crisis, as do 95 percent of Democrats, 87 percent of independents and even 70 percent of Republicans.”

what sort of dystopia is it where the president gets off on his tv ratings, all because of a pandemic that he has allowed to get out of control?

it's a pretty sick logic. it would be like GWB bragging about how 9/11 made him the man of the hour. 'yeah, it was a tragedy, but wow! was it an opportunity for me to go down in history!'.

President Trump is a living incarnation of the quest for ratings. That tweet doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

Thank God we have Trump managing this crisis instead of that cunt Clinton though. Clinton would have used this global health emergency to pass socialized healthcare in America. Trump is going to let the free market works its magic and bailout the insurance companies with taxpayer money when they fail. None of this would have happened if we didn't pass Obamacare anyway.

The mayor of NYC, a different guy, made a mistake I think by not shutting down the schools earlier. There is a lot that is out of both of their hands. They literally do not have the authority to spend a billion of our fake monopoly money to buy ventilators like the president does.

I acknowledge that I and a lot of other New Yorkers might just be relieved to have a representative or leader who can speak calmly and on point about the ongoing crisis every day unlike this guy.

And I think that is something a lot of Trump supporters will never understand about why so many people hate him and want him dead. The best leaders inspire hope and confidence and Trump does neither.

Even this failure knew how to at least pull people together.

Since when did state governors wear shirts with government shields embroidered into them?
Sad!

america is a militarised state, what do you expect. they love jackboots and a frisson of fascism.

in the same time period, america has had 3100 deaths and south korea 160. SK is much closer to the source of the outbreak and the majority of its population live in giant urban centres. they both reported their first case on the same day. interesting comparison.

washpo reported today that trump and the white house ignored the early warning from the seemingly ineffective national security council. sad! when will jay and the quislings admit their man is a busted flush?
