just remember, it was absolutely impossible for donald trump to have done any better. doesn't matter that SK and USA announced their first cases in the same week. donald trump has done an amazing job and he is trying really, really hard (in private, because he's humble).

I'm tired of staring at my own country and feeling sad at how stupid we are so I've taken a new approach in finding the good in other countries in what they're doing right.

this is no longer the wuhan or china flu. it's the trump/american flu.

Americans are now in the same boat."

Sunbelt states such as Arizona, Florida and Texas have been especially hard-hit after pushing to reopen their economies earlier in the pandemic. Cases a day have nearly doubled in Florida, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. More than 40 hospitals across the state maxed out their intensive care unit capacity, NBC News reported.

“We’re putting ourselves at risk and other people aren’t willing to do anything and in fact go the other way and be aggressive to promote the disease,” Dr Andrew Pastewski, intensive care unit medical director at Jackson South medical center in Miami, told Reuters. Pastewski himself was diagnosed with Covid-19. “It’s just disheartening,” he said.

In Texas, the number of new cases a day doubled in two weeks, to more than 9,100 a day. Texas and California, the two most populous states, both reported record deaths on Wednesday, according to Reuters.

The state of being stressed out is the fight or flight mode. The body surges with adrenaline. Normally reserved for when our lives are in immediate danger. It makes you hyper vigilant and unable to plan long term. So many people are stuck in survival mode and fall victim to adrenal fatigue and other things.
Also Cortisol regulation gets messed up I think.

Its an interesting area, its becoming very apparent the stress hormones people are exposed to from well before birth, into childhood and beyond have a huge impact on their life and physical and mental health.

People still refuse to be swayed by the numbers, and are still directing dark thoughts towards the radical liberals who "staged this whole thing" to weaken America economically to the point where they could finally throw a coup and force socialism. That or blame Fauci.

Read an anecdote where someone was practically disowned by her estranged "first responder" dad (read, American cop) because she wouldn't admit covid-19 was a hoax. This is beyond even Jay.

Honestly some of the conversations I've had are like being doused in ice water. Completely misdirected resentment. Feel like I'm on an alien planet sometimes.

all of the batshit covid denialism i have seen in america very quickly elides into talk of bill gates, anti-vaxxer rhetoric or conspiracy theories about being microchipped, and shadowy talk about the deep state. it’s a paranoiac, far-right internet world full of post-alex jones truther talk. facebook has a lot to answer for for letting its platform be totally over-run with ads and loose talk around all this bullshit.

just remember that american mega-corporations are their gift to the world! that’s where they are truly exceptional!

It's alarming how much of facebook bleeds over into the opinions of non-facebook users. I talk to so many of them, and they have no idea.

There's like two days between the first example's posts. Crazy. I wonder if Jay is on twitter with this stuff? Earlier in this thread I would have probably been panned by him for saying I wore a mask. Now he doesn't have a problem with it and never did.

I don't understand. Did he not get admitted into a hospital? Did he try to manage COVID at home? You can't play with your phone while on a ventilator.

I guess you don't remember giving me shit for buying masks at home depot back in march. I believe you told me to donate them to a hospital.

Is there any number of dead that would make you believe we could have or should have done more? Is there a number that would make you believe that a recession was worth the cost of preventing?
