Swag. I don’t have the steel toed ones but they look very similar. Served me well over the winter daily hiking but I basically wore them out. The sole is peeling apart. Kinda hoped they would be tougher.
I just had to toss a pair of keen's after two years of every-other-day use. I bought a pair of Danner's to replace them.

I started with poli sci but realized I didn't want any career in it. If probably go for that.

a lot of woolen pullovers, zip-up jackets, khakis or cargo pants, yes. check shirts is also a massive positive. quite nice cable or roll-neck knitwear in winters.

As a scientist you have to ready to go into the field at any moment.
It's pretty much the standard field wear for engineers and scientists. Button down shirt (polo shirt in the summer), jeans or khakis, boots, and a hard hat.
