Nothing much to look at yet, honestly. A lot of hard fucking work though. 1280 lbs of concrete mixed and poured by hand today.

I wish I could have done my backyard project during the Bat Flu break, not during useful time.

Will post pics soon.

~60 Tons dug up and barrowed into skips by hand, ~20 tons of new material barrowed in by hand.

~3 tons of concrete mixed with a mixer - I'm not an idiot. Still needed to be shoveled into the mixer and barrowed to the trench.

If you want an idea for planters, you could try concrete blocks. Doesn't look half bad even if they aren't the decorative variety. Lot's big enough that it probably wouldn't look tacky.

I like the cherry blossom trees and chairs pointing at them.

It saved me a few hours of digging. They wanted $80 for the day for the handheld auger or $120 for that thing. No brainer. I wish I had rented a cement mixer too.

I would build a deck but it would give all the forest spiders a place to hide and spook me on warm summer evenings.

That's a magnolia. I planted a cherry blossom by the street, but it's blocked by the house in that shot. The birch tree I planted on the day my grandfather died. He always had a white birch in his yard that was my favorite to climb and sit under.

It's bad enough you have to check your boots for spiders.

Wait until you have a raccoon crawl under it and die. That was a fun few days.

One upside to this is that I don't have to file plans or call for a building inspection because of the quarantine. I can self certify everything in 20 years when I sell the house

I have a 3 legged racoon hanging out and living under my deck and I really hope he dies elsewhere. Good chance he takes a tire to the face at some point, but if it doesn't become the city's problem I'm in for scooping 3/4 of a racoon from under the BBQ.

When I lived in Queens I'd have to listen to them fight with cats all the time. Out here they topple my trash cans if they ever get left outside. Bastards

do those contractors in the picture know that it's a plague house full of highly infectious people? did you paint a big yellow cross on the front door as per CDC guidelines?

The raccoons seem pretty chill here. I think they mooch off the cat food people leave outside for strays. Most of the cat noises seem to involve two or more cats, and result in two piles of cat fluff in the morning if the wind doesn't carry it away.

Jay is going to leave a bad Home Advisor review once the workers don't show up to finish his deck because they died from Wuhan Flu.

My parents sort of had an entire bathroom upgraded for free because of this.

Why would I hire workers? Building stuff is fun and I get to buy tools
