of course you aren't - you live in some weird alternate reality where Scott Walker is your savior and Trumpo is his lover.

Respect owning your decision, but the real question is - do you regret it?

Last polls I saw had high 70s low 80s saying no, but I imagine some days are easier to reconcile that than others.

Give it a few years and people who voted him in will claim they hated him the whole way like I hear R voters talk about Bush now. They will still vote for the next Republican anyway.

It's incredible but he does make Bush look good.

At least he makes the boring Obama years a thing of the distant past. Now every day there's something to cringe at.

I'm wholly transparent about my voting history.

I voted for:
2000 - Gore
2004 - Would've voted for Kerry or Nader if I wasn't deployed.
2008 - McCain
2012 - Gary Johnson
2016 - Gary Johnson

I lean Republican these days but couldn't stomach either Romney or Trump. I regret voting for McCain because he became a blatant warmongering hack for the MIC.

As for the tax reform stuff. I'm on the fence. I firmly believe that our corporate tax rate should be lowered, but how they're proposing to pay for it will completely fuck me over on a personal level. Republicans seem to have gotten it into their heads that they want to stick it to all the blue states as either revenge or, more likely, because it's safe for them to do so. Capping the mortgage deduction at 500k? Yeah, fine, I'll bite. Removing my ability to write off my state and local taxes? Die in a fucking fire.

The whole GOP agenda the last year boggles my mind. Of all the things they could have done with their majorities, they decided on tax cuts for the wealthy and taking away people's healthcare. I don't see what they see as an endgame here. None of these policies have widespread support and will be overturned along with worse for the GOP once the democrats take back power.

Yes, the systems lurches wildly to the left and right, meantime the rich and powerful get richer and more powerful, and oranger.
Its how the framers of the constitution framed it so there you go.

As for the detail
Corporate tax is too high, except on offshore earnings where its too low.
Consumption tax is much too low. Hence Americans are fat and waste resources like there's no tomorrow. In fact because of this there may be no tomorrow.
Mixing up Federal and local taxes is retarded. That must distort so many things. High taxing states contribute less to Federal tax revenue? Maybe thats why Republicans always seem to be angry.
Mortgage interest deduction is retarded, most countries did away with it long ago. It really does keep the poor down.
Should maybe think about spending a bit less on supersonic stealth ninja jets and a bit more on something productive in the long term.
The tax system could be radically changed without really affecting anyone badly at all. The one thing Trump is right about is bringing all those offshore earnings back home and taxing them at least a little bit.

Everything about the GOP now boggles the mind. They used to be an almost respectable organisation, with a few wacky ideas.
Now they're just a wacky organisation with no idea.

No you got it completely backwards. The Democrat parts of America give more money to the federal government than they get back in total. The opposite is true for red States, they suck up resources. The new tax bill will make that worse.

Mostly because our tax brackets don't take cost of living into account.

That would be something good for a "tax reform bill" to fix. Tax reform is just a euphemism for "cut rich people taxes" though. I wouldn't be surprised if that is by design. Can't have genuine tax reform if everyone is scarred into thinking justifiably or not that the objective is to enrich corporations.

I assumed that if a state had high taxes and those taxes are deductible from Federal taxes then people in those states would pay less Federal tax.

I have no idea why anyone would think that tax brackets should be based on the local cost of living, that would be impossible to calculate for one thing. As far as I know nowhere in the world does that. If you don't like it feel free to move somewhere with a lower cost of living.
High living costs generally equate to high income and high standard of living. Boo hoo.
This is one of those Libertarian pipe-dreams which isn't going to happen, except anything could happen under Trump so watch this space I guess.
