Why don't you acknowledge that this isn't what allies of the gay community signed up for?

That clip just indicates to me that they need more time with their therapist and maybe not shop at Gamestop if they don't like their policies. I don't see how it points to some inexorable conclusion about the "gay community."

J.K. Rowling agrees with me.

https://www.jkrowling.com/opinions/j-k- … er-issues/

I’m concerned about the huge explosion in young women wishing to transition and also about the increasing numbers who seem to be detransitioning (returning to their original sex), because they regret taking steps that have, in some cases, altered their bodies irrevocably, and taken away their fertility. Some say they decided to transition after realising they were same-sex attracted, and that transitioning was partly driven by homophobia, either in society or in their families.

Most people probably aren’t aware – I certainly wasn’t, until I started researching this issue properly – that ten years ago, the majority of people wanting to transition to the opposite sex were male. That ratio has now reversed. The UK has experienced a 4400% increase in girls being referred for transitioning treatment. Autistic girls are hugely overrepresented in their numbers.
...
The argument of many current trans activists is that if you don’t let a gender dysphoric teenager transition, they will kill themselves. In an article explaining why he resigned from the Tavistock (an NHS gender clinic in England) psychiatrist Marcus Evans stated that claims that children will kill themselves if not permitted to transition do not ‘align substantially with any robust data or studies in this area. Nor do they align with the cases I have encountered over decades as a psychotherapist.’
...
I’ve wondered whether, if I’d been born 30 years later, I too might have tried to transition. The allure of escaping womanhood would have been huge. I struggled with severe OCD as a teenager.
...
I’m also aware through extensive research that studies have consistently shown that between 60-90% of gender dysphoric teens will grow out of their dysphoria.
...
The current explosion of trans activism is urging a removal of almost all the robust systems through which candidates for sex reassignment were once required to pass.
...
So I want trans women to be safe. At the same time, I do not want to make natal girls and women less safe. [H]When you throw open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms to any man who believes or feels he’s a woman...then you open the door to any and all men who wish to come inside.
That is the simple truth.

You are both perpetuating homophobic stereotypes.

i think the only thing being perpetuated is your own homophobia.

lots of gay music is out and proud. ballroom/vogue is a good example.

What do you think about J.K. Rowling?

i could not care less. she was the head girl at my local school, a local girl through and through. she wasn’t much liked then, either, and nobody has anything good to say about her in the usual vicious village gossip. that is my only anecdotal interest in joanne rowling.

What do you think about her very reasonable arguments?

i am not familiar with them. i don't follow the trans/TERF turf-wars on twitter. it has been incessant for years, i just tuned out. the writer of father ted, graham linehan, also seems to spend about 9 hours a day antagonising the issue and getting everywhere. it's like background noise at this point.

lots of feminists such as germaine greer have come out with similar critiques, i think. again, it's not something i am invested in. it doesn't concern me at all.

Why do you advocate on behalf of the trannies but won't even listen to what the other side is saying?

my 'advocacy' extends as far as letting people do what the fuck they want in private and with their own bodies.

This is a Jay-level argument, the sort of thing he would say about AOC.

'argument'? i wasn't making any argument. wtf are you on about? i just said i don't have a view, i haven't even read her books. my knowledge of her extends as far as petty local gossip, which i obviously don't pay much mind to. get a grip, christ.

And yet you're still keen to insult and spread negative stories about her.

i think you have about as much expertise and ability to diagnose them as 'mentally ill' as you do with regards to any other political hot-topic you get so declamatory about: fuck all. i'll leave that one to the medical and psychiatric community to figure out.

spread negative stories? lol ok. i didn't spread any story. i said she's not liked in her hometown and is evidently now a pantomime villain in our tabloid press. nothing i am contributing to or taking any great interest in, regardless.

oddly precious aren't you?

This whole trans thing should be treated as a mental illness, same as people who want to cut limbs off.

i'd hardly call that a 'negative story'. it says as much about typical yokels and provincials who gossip about 'the girl who made good'. i mentioned it to speak to her divisiveness. i don't weigh an opinion or judgment because i simply do not care what a children's author, whose books i have not read, says about trans rights, an issue that affects me zilch.

if i was pushed to say something at all, i would only comment that it seems very unwise for a children's author to be so singularly out-of-touch with the attitudes and values of her audience. getting into generational rucks when your whole business is based on inter-generational sales does not seem wise.

In December, Rowling received widespread backlash — and a few A-list unfollows — for expressing support to an anti-transgender researcher who was fired for tweeting that “men cannot change into women.”

In an earlier Twitter nod, this one from March 2018, the author liked a message that referred to trans women as “men in dresses."

According to Pink News, her team was quick to clarify her intentions, blaming the incident on a “middle-aged moment," and claiming that she didn’t mean to like the tweets.

I think the amusement here is that the people who were mad about Rowling making Dumbledore gay in postscript are now in agreement with her bathroom argument. Is it possible that Rowling is really a master internet troll?

i feel really sorry for anyone who takes harry potter seriously. let alone to fuss over its canon and the sexuality of a bunch of wizards. who actually gives a flying fuck?
