This exact same problem is occurring in Sydney, Melbourne and probably many other cities around the world. Chinese money is just flooding in and pricing out the locals. Just because they look chinese doesn't mean they aren't citizens m80. not to mention FIRB restrictions that only allow purchases of new property, ya know, adding more to housing supply.
There isn't that much chinese money flooding aus anyway, there's huge capital restrictions.
Canada has a separate issue since the capital isn't blocked due to it being used for immigration purposes.

SF has the worst housing crisis in the US. It's gotten to the point that the city of San Jose is fighting a development because the development would create almost 50K jobs but provide only 16K housing units. It is absolutely the lack of new housing being built (in SF's case, because they have restrictive building/zoning laws and the homeowners have a vested interest in limiting the amount of supply).
I'm in Disney world and I have to say seeing all the morbidly obese people stuffing their faces while riding around on hoverrounds is really fucking cringe worthy. Put down the donut, sir!

Anyway, I think I figured out how this happened. Most people here eat food, whether ethnic of some sort, or not, that most people in this world reserve for holidays or special occasions. The food got imported here without context, it tasted good and we made it part of our daily diet. But of course, portion size is the real problem. I literally had to walk miles yesterday to find non-fried food on a stick or in a basket.

There seems to be no basic staple food in much of the US, its all feel-good food.
That and its all lagged with cheese, mayo, sugar - usually all three actually.
Also no-one consumes soda like Americans. I worked with an American guy who the moment he felt slightly tired would grab a can of sugar solution.
He took some convincing that if he just did nothing and waited 10 minutes his body would start burning fat and he'd feel OK again.
