This is the first time in history professional jobs have been offshored in such a significant way.

Really its the ruling classes attempting to eliminate the middle class as they soak up money which the ruling class believes is theirs.
Soon enough there will be two classes, the ruling class and the consumer class, the professional/middle class will be in India.

says the 10 pound pom.

the world is rebalancing. What people are bitching and moaning about is an economic equilibrium that is being achieved by Asia (particularly India and China).

An engineer from China/India doesn't exactly have the same skillset as someone from the USA. Same goes for A LOT of professional jobs. There's still a lot of variation in skills.

We're not talking about immigration, we're talking about offshoring of jobs and abuse of the visa system.

That and we're assisting foreign countries to take away our wealth and competitive advantage.

Also I'm not a ten pound POM

Jobs are always going to be fluid. You keep thinking economics is a zero sum game when the world in the past century had made more improvements to the livelihood of everyone than in the past millennium. Foreign countries are not 'taking away wealth' they are GROWING it for everyone. No country in the world can survive purely on its own.

This is a period of unparalleled 'fluidity', where it will lead is unpredictable.

Giving away manufacturing, and now professional services, is going to end badly in my view.

No I'm just not a white supremacist who feels that the color of my skin makes me inherently superior to others and deserving of the entire world's wealth.

There's more than enough to go around, especially when we get past your puerile notion that wealth consists of a nation sitting on a big pile of gold and handing out trinkets as payment rather than hard currency. That's 18th century mercantilist dogma.

Maybe people should create their own wealth, instead of relying on industrious people to do it for them?

If only America had a billion and a half people. Who cares how many billionaires there are anyway if the average person's quality of life is dismal. There being 10 billionaires in NJ has no bearing on me. Why should Americans or anyone be proud of how many anonymous rich people there are?

How could you possibly force companies to keep jobs here?

umm, the communist party in China has been corrupt and wealthy for longer than the last 30 years, friend.  They also have a heavily unregulated market that will go through many adjustments if not manipulated by the government and monied interests.

Chinese markets are super regulated. If you're foreign.

The entire country has gone through the largest wealth growth in human history. Even though there's still a lot of people impoverished it's still amazing how an entire country grew that much, especially compared to neighbouring countries (India).

Because using intellectual capital created by a compatriot is exactly the same as transferring wealth, knowledge and income to people who are in competition with us.

Who are 'they' and why do you consider yourself to be in competition with them? Are you secretly casting ballots for the BNP from your hidden lair in sheep country Australia?

People and nations are all in competition and antagonism - you were in the Army remember?

Also South Australia isn't really a sheep state, that's more New South Wales.

Why? Egos. Why are you so willing to back some politicians plan to enhance his own power? 99% of the time it's at your expense. To people in power you're nothing more than a prop, asked to stand behind them as they scowl and preen at their peers.

I don't agree with your worldview mostly because I believe that nation-states are inherently invalid legacies from a previous age. Large central governments are by default corrupt and disconnected from the populace they nominally rule.

I also don't agree with it because I grew up here in New York where I'm exposed to every culture imaginable. I may bitch about cultural mannerisms on occasion but I don't see my neighbors as my enemies.

Okay, you reject the concept of nation states. That's great but the rest of the world still operates as if they exist and your spiel about them not existing doesn't solve the issue of wealth and knowledge transfer between antagonist actors.

So you didn't join the Army out of idealism and concern for your fellow citizen then, it was venal self-interest?

Uncontrolled migration and trade does dissolve boundaries, this brings the average person down to the level and influence of the poorest least democratic state and elevates the wealth and power of the people at the top - I don't understand why you're in favour of this.

The average person in a developed country is not in favour of this at all, they don't blindly swallow the Ayn Rand/Adam Smith hocus pocus.

And wow, you must have been exposed to a lot of cultures in Noo Yawk - how many countries have you actually lived in? Living in a tent in a military base doesn't count.
