When did anyone mention parliamentary elections?
I'm denigrating the lack of insight the average American has, and their lack of care about their ignorance,  including their politicians.

You're saying the world outside America and its short history does not matter, Trump is saying it too, who was the last President to take that view?
Oh yeah

I think you misunderstood me, and it's my fault. I said "American History" courses treat England as a footnote, or the bad guy. American History is not the only required history course for grade schoolers. Usually two years of Western Civilization is also taught and that involves European and Middle Eastern history from hunter-gatherer through the Renaissance (from what I recall). If one were to take European History as an elective it would pick up from there.

The world outside of America does matter, I never said it didn't. What I said was that I find British history post-William the Conqueror to be tedious. You're frankly not a very interesting people. That's my own personal opinion. You had about 300 years of being anything other than a backwater and poor nation on the periphery of history (which is where you are now, you just don't see it lol@Brexit). Aside from campaigns by Marlborough (overrated compared to Eugen) and Wellington, British history in that time period consists of beating up on backwards people and stealing their money while funding proxies.

The same can be said for Scandinavia. Once they adopted Christianity they stopped being interesting, with the only exception being the 30 Years War.

Crusades, Hundreds Years War, War of the Roses, English Reformation, English civil war...all very boring.

Keep in mind that when Jay calls something boring it is usually because he doesn't know as much about it as the person he is talking to. If you asked him how to install an air conditioner he would totally tell you how interesting it is. If a toddler asked him about the Spanish Armada he would probably be thrilled to explain it.

I've read thousands of pages on the subjects. Thanks though. You know who have more interesting histories than the English? The French, the Japanese, the Chinese, the Greeks, the Italians, the Turks, and dozens of other cultures. Petty squabbles between what amount to be minor nobles on the world stage are not interesting. If you want tedium, read about the Thirty Years War or the Hundred Years War. 99% of it is bickering and raiding between Minor Noble A and Minor Noble B. The big battles? Interesting, but few and far between because of the atrocious cost. Same goes for the War of the Roses, Civil War etc. I couldn't give two shits about which branch of the family feels they have a better claim to slaughter and exploit peasants.

I strongly doubt you know all that much about Japanese, Turkish, and Italian history. Especially enough to claim it's all a better read than English history. I might even argue that English history is the most interesting culture for an American to read since there is such a glut of understandable material.

Those cultures are all terrible to list if you are going to complain about nobles and petty politics. How much of Japanese history is an isolated culture's clans warring with each other? The majority of Turkish history is just a bunch of Ghilmen, and Mamluks running around killing and raiding others and each other for ghanimah.

There aren't even that many cultures with a lot of recorded history. And of the ones that are, it was English anthropologist, and historians who collected, preserved, and translated a ton it. You are going to need at least a little background in British history if you are going to try to read a British colonial governors translation of old Arabic text and understand why a dead British guy is the only available English source for some information. Do you even  read source material?

My first paid job was helping my father digitize the 500 or so volumes that make up the official records of the American Civil War and creating an index based on battle location. This is back when scanners fed one sheet at a time. So I've probably done more original research than you have

I was trolling, and hoping for a better reaction.

I find most history boring, the bulk of British history was written on behalf of the royals to burnish their legacies, and of course the whole of Europe went through the dark ages, not just Britain. Britain was a backwater - like everywhere else before significant international travel occurred.
America has had about 50 years of not being a large farm thanks to unsustainable loans from other countries, I think your time is about up - a bit weak compared with 300 years.

British history in that time period consists of beating up on backwards people and stealing their money while funding proxies
Funny, that's the American present you're talking about - you remember your trip to the ME presumably?

Still, British history is more relevant to American history than probably the whole of the rest of the world put together. Good luck making sense of American history if you ignore the British.
We did use to own the world you know.

The reason why our politics suck is because people throw tantrums when they can't get their way.

Considering the overwhelming amount of damage Trump could do to the world, I don't think this election is one where you have the luxury of taking a stand against the system.

Maybe the problem is you have too much luxury and don't foresee how you will be negatively affected. You know there are millions of Muslim Americans who will probably be victimized in a Trump presidency. I am sure they wish they had an opportunity to snub their nose at our political system.

i have voted in every single presidential election, and almost all state elections i've been eligible for.  I can count on one hand the number of times I voted for a Repub or Dem.  You are an ardent supporter of a de-facto two party system, when it's clearly evident that both Dems and Repubs are two heads of the same dragon.  You and people that share your myopic "them or us" attitude are what is wrong with American politics.  You fall into the trap of "gotta elect the lesser of two evils" as if there is no other choice.  You are the lamb being led to slaughter.  I am the shepherd.

This was the election to take a stand against the legacy system.  There was a progressive candidate that stood for and with the people and against corporate oligarchies.  You shit on him every chance you could because Hillary is better at pandering to voter blocks despite being a polished turd of a human being and the face of corporate interests.  You have only yourself to blame.  And I blame you too.

The difference here is that I don't believe Trump is as shitty as the character he's been playing, whereas I have no doubt Clinton really is a total piece of shit human being.
