Article is behind a paywall but they were called but both American and Mexican authorities went on the record saying that they are the most dangerous even if Sinaloa is the more profitable one.

Anyhow, it doesn't matter.

What do you think the U.S. should do to stop them? Trump considered declaring them a terrorist organization and making a show of combating them. Horrible idea.

Can't call then a terrorist organization because it means a steady stream of asylum seekers that the US would be obligated to let stay.

The US should legalize drugs to reduce the profit motive, while investing heavily in resources to go after their finances. Anything less is not effective.

I really doubt that the legalisation of drugs would suddenly change the status quo. They will still exploit low wage labour to flood and undercut whatever produce is made elsewhere. Besides, the cartels are in many different businesses these days, some of which are 'legal'. Gold and other natural resources, avocadoes, farming - which helps them launder the drug money.

Most U.S. black market marijuana is domestic. Licensed growers overproduce and dump it on the black market. Unlicensed home growers selling to their friends too.

I don't think heroin, cocaine, and LSD should be available over the counter. I don't like the idea of giving corporations licenses to produce cocaine on an industrial scale. Legalized marijuana is problematic enough.

I agree that they would diversify into other stuff but we have an example of what happens when you take away a drug syndicates um drugs? The U.S. Mafia declined considerably once prohibition was repealed.

At the very least, usage should be decriminalized. Throwing addicts in prison doesn't help anyone but people who make money off of prisons (an arguably worse case of human exploitation in some respects).

The war on drugs isn't really working, but on and on we hammer away. Why do we keep at it? Are we just stupid? Or is someone *cough* making money off of it?

A lot of the war on drugs is maintained by people who want to punch down on others. Oftentimes people they know. Tech support shut-ins who relish the news of the cool kids in highschool getting arrested for drugs. Punching down on people you know because you feel bad about yourself probably maintains a lot of our worst inequalities.

Paul Gosar (R-AZ) has shared a photoshopped anti-immigrant anime video that shows him killing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

On Sunday, Gosar shared the video on Twitter that used clips from popular Japanese anime Attack on Titan, alongside the caption: "Any anime fans out there?"

Gosar—in the place of main character Eren Yaeger—circles around a giant with Ocasio-Cortez's face photoshopped on before the anime character launches into the air and comes down, slicing the back of the giant's neck, killing it.

Seconds later, Gosar runs across a rooftop and, with blades drawn, jumps toward a giant with President Joe Biden's face photoshopped onto it.
Hmm, that's unusual.

Interesting how you commented on the first part of my response but completely ignored the second part.

What you describe as exploitation is literally the agribusiness model. Do you criticise the Cargills and Tysons of the world for this inhumane way of doing business?

The Mexican drug cartels exploit a weak government and unending consumer base. Addressing the supply and demand issue by legalizing drugs will remove the high profit margins that allow the cartels to corrupt the Mexican state apparatus. Following the money trail will impede the cartels ability to launder it...

How do you feel about amnesty for drug cartel members after legalization? Colombia is doing that to demobilize FARC.

The answer to my question is probably "never" but do you think we will see a major shift in drug policy that will lead to legalization of hard drugs the same way we legalized marijuana in our lifetime?

Depends on their role in the criminal organization as far as amnesty is concerned.

Do I think there will be a major shift in drug policy? Yes, the conversation has already started in regards to approaching it from a health and safety angle instead of a crime and punishment angle. The next logical step is decriminalization, then legalization. I don't see it (legalization) happening in our lifetime.

I think the drug legalization conversation in the US is almost completely controlled by the morality police, which means the conversations are emotional, not rational, and by extension, going nowhere.

I'm sure if drugs are legalised the cartel members will just go off and drive taxis or something.

Legalising drugs will just legitimise the cartels, then they'll really be out of control, take over govt legally etc.

What are we talking about when we talk about love drug legalization?

Marijuana legalization, federal, is probably within our lifetime. Do you think someday people will be able to go to their doctor for a script for some heroin? You would be able to buy a cocaine party platter at Walmart?

Governor Kristi Noem’s daughter, Kassidy Peters, will resign from her appraisal job and turn in her licenses at the end of the year.

In a letter to Secretary Marcia Hultman with the South Dakota Deparment of Labor, Peters writes to “express my disappointment and anger that my good name and professional reputation continue to be damaged by questions and misinformation concerning the Appraisal Certification Program.”

The decision to quit her position and turn in her license comes after a report by the AP last month detailing a meeting that Peter’s attended with Noem, Hultman, and then head of the state appraisal program Sherry Bren.
...
The training agreement lays out how Peter’s would be able to obtain her license in another attempt. Some of the terms agreed to in the document include resubmitting three appraisals that were previously submitted, and 45 additional hours of classroom time.
They are talking about this lady running from president. She use her government influence in order to get her dummy daughter an home appraiser license. Totally disqualifying for 2 reasons. First her daughter is dumb which means she probably has bad DNA. Secondly, what kind of low goal having corruption is that? Not even a full real estate license but an appraiser license?b

Herpty derpty derp, re: voter fraud -

tl;dr, man becomes gop hero for calling attention to some mysterious person casting a vote in his dead wife's name, later found to have cast the ballot himself. pity it's not a useful thing to bring up to republicans who are beyond reason.

How about those liberals, making everything all political?

FOP President John Catanzara has officially retired from  the Chicago Police Department, though he will continue on as union boss.

He wrote "Finally!!! Let's go Brandon" in the remarks section of his retirement paperwork.

I feel very simpatico with all of the points made in that video (Washington resident, seen some of this stuff first-hand). One of my lasting complaints against Democrats is that they are afraid in some respects to push and argue for the progressive agenda, as exemplified by the situation in Democratic states and areas, in direct contrast to some of the ideals of their platform.

Affluent vs. poor, nimbyism, simple greed. Disparity in school funding, one of my off and on drums here, usually dismissed by mac to the tune of "throwing money at the schools won't fix the students." Well sort of, but all schools in all districts should offer students some unified standard of quality. I shouldn't be able to drive a 10 blocks or 10 states over and see such stark differences between rich and poor area public schools. Can't help but feel a little hopeless going to school in a building where it's obviously cared very little for.

Not to say that it's an obvious gotcha that should make you want to vote Republican, heaven forbid. Like it says at the end of the video, Democrat states are doing things, but too little too slowly. I think the party needs a period of introspection and rededication. And Democrat voters should put their money where their mouth is, venture a little left of centrist corporate liberal, and actually support all the little quips they have staked in their front yard.

Now LGB has been hijacked will the LBGTQ crowd have to rethink their acronym?

Problem is however much money Democrats pour into poor areas it just doesn't work.
People need jobs and jobs need industry of some kind, not just another govt admin office.
