That's a little unfair.

Baseball fans unfurl massive 'Trump Won' flag during Yankees game
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics … ar-AAKu1uD

Two men showed their support for former President Donald Trump during a Yankees game with a banner claiming the 2020 election was fraudulent.

“Trump Won - Save America,” the banner unfurled at Yankee Stadium on Thursday read.

The banner was met with boos from other attendees, and one man was even seen jumping from a deck below to pull it down. Security eventually escorted the two men who unfurled the banner from the stadium, with one of the men appearing to be handcuffed.

“Sounded like the entire crowd was booing until security confiscated the banner, which then resulted in a large cheer,” tweeted Max Goodman, a Sports Illustrated reporter.

Yankee stadium...just had a acid flashback to going as a kid.

Had to check if my memory was right...

So they opened a new one in 2009. Removed local development to put it down. They never returned the old development but instead turned it into another baseball field and a soccer field?

Waste of space. They didn't need to put more brown high density buildings but could have instead put some nice mixed use buildings instead of a soccer and field and redundant baseball field.

Isn't there a whole ass state over there to expand out into if need be? I would rather have a soccer field than another cluster of "mixed building" clones with expensive condos and a bunch of corner Starbuckses.

They should have just put the Yankees stadium in NJ like the Giants and Jets did.
MetLife Stadium is a stadium at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey, 5 mi west of New York City. Opened in 2010 to replace Giants Stadium, the stadium serves as the home for the New York Giants and New York Jets of the National Football League.
I doubt the locals get much use out of the soccer field and baseball diamond. If we are going to not put down condos, then at least add walkable parks, playgrounds, petting zoo etc. A giant field of grass in a state that freezes over half the year is a waste.

There's a track around the soccer field I might have made use of if I lived there. Check it out on google earth. There's a playground by the baseball field, some trees over concrete paths, probably a few park benches.

There's some parking garages nearby, unsure how far in they extend. Another nearby has like 5 billion black cars on the roof.

I know this is drifting way off topic, but the 2016 election was 5 years ago.

I'd like to know what the heck is going on with those rectangular areas. From above it looks like they're raised, or partially fenced off for whatever reason.

If it had been cut down for a mixed building you probably wouldn't be posting about it here.

Anyway some more Jan 6 stuff:

If you put a giant mixed use complex there you would have a sewer line to absorb rainfall.

Why do you hate mixed use buildings?

I don't. It seems to me that you're on a war path against sporting fields because sometimes your "pig men" shout political stuff from the bleachers.

What if the mixed building was occupied primarily by corporate entities who contribute to Republican war chests?

It would be okay if it was a park. Fields full of manicured grass and service sheds is a waste. More people could get utility from a public park than a big football field.

Parks are sometimes fields of manicured grass though.

I see little reason why we can't have both parks and sporting fields, sometimes both on the same plot. Maybe I'd rather have an open track with a nice surface in my area than a second haphazard maze of benches covered in bird turds and a bunch of questionable trails where people lurk in brambles to ambush women.

didn't i make this exact point about golf courses, only to be shouted out of the discussion because i was 'too miserable to let golfers enjoy their pastime'?

add the american fixation with lawn care to that list, whilst you're at it.

I recall stuff about how big of a waste it was to have lush, green grass golf courses (and lawns) in oppositional climates. Something that isn't really as big of a problem here in some of the areas of the pacific northwest as, say, Arizona. Think I stated that too.

Golf has other costs though: waterway disruption, abundant use of pesticides and fertilizers, gas and oil expense in maintenance, importations of non-native plants and grasses, disruption of local ecosystems, not to mention the monopolization of vast amounts of land area in a community. The last of which was an annoyance stated by D-FENS in the iconic golf scene where he has a confrontation with a stereotypical golfer.

@mac: D-FENS wants a petting zoo, too.

Unrelated but still golf:

Just for some perspective:

From Average Golf Course Length; Size | Acres | Areas:

The average size of a golf course is between 100 and 190 acres. This measurement includes area for the club house, driving range and practice greens. Smaller golf courses will instead be around 70 acres (28.3 hectares).
From American Football Field:

Football fields are 1.32 acres in size. Based on the entire football field measuring 360 feet long and 160 feet wide, a football field is 57,600 ft2 or 1.32 acres.

the critique of golf courses that i posted involved all of those aspects. you're just saying in another way that, yes, golf courses are enormously environmentally destructive. just as maintaining a lush, verdant, non-native, monocultural patch of turf is wasteful on about 15 different fronts, too. it's not just water use, it's the loss of biodiversity and the use of damaging pesticides and pollutants, etc. yep, exactly.

the line from the family lawn to the golf course is a pretty quick one. they're both moronic diseases of the middle-class suburban mindset. both forms of conspicuous display and consumption straight out of veblen.

Also, the perspective was of course intended to tie into complaints about sporting fields coming from people who may have defended golf courses. 1.32 rectangular acres of flat field surrounded by a bunch of trees, far less damaging IMO than yet another gigantic golf course, like ~100x or more greater in size, and all that comes with it.

Also while on that, some of the parks I've seen pretty much do the same thing as recent complaints in this thread. Bunch of non-native grasses maintained by power equipment, probably not the best for the local environment either.

Comparatively, a park could have five sports fields and then a bunch of outdoorsy space, and still not be as obscene as a golf course.

Well golf is a stupid game which uses land out of all proportion to the benefit. Same thing applies to beef farming though.

Sports stadia with their megacubits of reinforced concrete for the one day per month they get used are even stupider.
