I dunno what it is you all put in the water over there but it seems to breed a particular type of asshole that I don't commonly see elsewhere.

I've noticed some of it in media as well, be it cultural stuff like movies and tv series or actual reality. There's no sense of de-escalation anywhere. From twitter 'beatdowns' and 'claps' to people insistently telling eachother to go fuck themselves anywhere all the time. It's like people are structurally told that when slighted even a little bit the only option you should always choose is to escalate.

Oh come on, stuff like twitter vileness (or World Wars, nudge, nudge) are hardly monopolized by Americans.

Some of our stereotypical violence and misbehaviors are probably in part attributable to the fact that until far more recently than in Europe (who were definitely the non-violent angels of human history), government control had not been fully established in some areas, and is still in some ways being reflected by our attitudes, various fictions, and throwaway TV shows. Movies about bloody revenge sprees outside of a law system that can't or won't protect the protagonist aren't even a new thing. Glorification of bloody autonomy.

Things can definitely stand improvement over here, from the way some of us treat each other, to wage disparities, to healthcare, etc. I think we need more time being a country to mellow out, and maybe less hot takes from Euro snobs lacking in much introspection.

America never got past the frontiersman mentality, its still a take-what-you-can-and-fuck-everyone-else place.

One take I heard from a colleague at Ford was that with healthcare tied to work or wealth many people are desperate to keep their job and hence access to healthcare for the family, so there isn't much working together for the common good.

Confrontational, violent, selfish behaviour is reinforced by the media - if you're wronged the best thing to do is pick up a gun and kill dozens of people according to Hollywood and wild west lore.

I know people who haven't been to the doctor in ages, or in their words, who finally had affordable insurance lined up before bastardized ACA changed everything. Still feeling the hurt from medical bills decades ago, they'd have to be bleeding freely from every orifice or in unimaginable pain to even agree to gracing the doorstep of a clinic.

Some I guess convert this into a feeling of John Wayne toughness and stubborn independence to cope. This has gotten people killed by what would have likely been treatable diseases, maladies, and illnesses. Also applies to mental health. Afraid of bills, or being called a hypochondriac, diagnosed with conversion disorder, made fun of (I hear this a lot especially from older men), etc.

I might add that there's currently trust issues with Biden's infrastructure plans. A number of folks just assume the money will never get to what's being said it will be used for. The paranoia is kind of hard to find fault with after seeing what happens with large chunks of bailout dough. Although for some out of this group, how they trusted Trump and not Biden with their tax money is beyond reason.

Should definitely give the money to billionaires, they're experts at trickle-down stimulation of the economy.

Lack of healthcare is going to up the general background noise of paranoia by several notches, having never not had it it would be unpleasant to lose.

Meanwhile in Denmark....

As I have said before, all of modern American politics is driven by the desire of right wingers to not be perceived as gay.

He doesn't like to be accountable for it either.

I've never hit a girl, or not let them leave, or verbally abused them. I've been a shithead to plenty, but there's a clear difference there.

My dates have been mostly pleasant. Nothing too fancy, middle class diner and a movie. I observed the (drilled) classic hold the door open stuff that some people cringe at, but I'll do that for people behind me entering the supermarket. Both parties usually end up paying a roughly equal amount if that matters.

Just friends is kind of nice, and matchmaking efforts have thankfully ceased.

It's still funny though that Fox homed in on Price's voluntary pay cut, and trumpeted loudly about his socialistic scheme or whatever doomed to fail.

Back in 2015, the tech entrepreneur shocked the business world by slashing his own $1.1 million pay package to help fund a minimum “living wage” of $70,000 for all workers at his credit card processing company Gravity Payments.

Price’s decision led to him being heavily criticized as a “socialist” on Fox News and Fox Business. In addition, some clients dropped Gravity for reasons that included fears the salary hike would cause their rates to rise.

But in the years since, Price has been hailed as a success by Harvard Business School and Inc. magazine, which noted the number of employees at Gravity has doubled while the value of payments that the company processes has gone from $3.8 billion a year to $10.2 billion.

Imagine having a president who's alright with people exercising their right to peacefully protest things, and not turn it into some us vs. them rabble-rouse.

Olympian Gwen Berry protested during the national anthem during the Olympic trials on Saturday when she turned away from the flag on the medal podium and held a t-shirt over her face.

On Monday, the White House took notice.

Press secretary Jen Psaki was asked about Berry’s protest on Monday by a reporter, and while she said she hasn’t spoken with President Joe Biden about it specifically, Psaki defended the hammer thrower’s actions.

“I know [Biden is] incredibly proud to be an American and has great respect for the anthem and all that it represents, especially for our men and women serving in uniform all around the world,” Psaki said.

“He would also say, of course, that part of that pride in our country means recognizing there are moments where we are, as a country, haven’t lived up to our highest ideals. And it means respecting the rights of people granted to them in the Constitution to peacefully protest.”

I read like 3 articles about her all were bad the only thing I got out of it was she felt personally attacked that they played the anthem when she was on the podium

About half way through. It's amazing how many people were willing to risk their life for the election of someone who clearly doesn't give a shit about them. They are lucky they didn't get gunned down by the hundreds like in similar events.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody_Sunday_(1905)

And in a weird way the country is actually lucky these guys didn't get killed in large numbers. It would be very destabilizing if they were.

Also, whenever you see a normal looking adult outside doing something stupid remember "not all wounds are visible" or something like that.
How many students are in special education? In the U.S. overall, 13.7 percent of all students were special education students (ages 3-21) in 2017-18. The percentage varied by state from 9.2 percent in Texas to 19.2 percent in New York.
Up to 20% of adults have a straight up learning disability.

You have to hand it to antifa, they hired a lot of very good actors willing to take one for the team just to make Trumpers look bad.

e: I should add that it won't do much good showing this video to some people. They'll just be inspired by the patriots in action standing up to the lies. "You can only push people so far!" I get that the scope so far is mostly on the riot itself, but so far it barely glossed over the bed of lies that motivated the thing.

"Conservative pornstar" derails Turning Point USA's right-wing youth gathering: The adult entertainer Brandi Love was banned from a right-wing gathering after mounting pressure online"
Turning Point USA, the right-wing youth student organization led by Charlie Kirk, found itself in an unusual controversy Friday night after "conservative pornstar" Brandi Love was allowed into a Florida conference and welcomed as an "Adult VIP," sparking backlash.

The drama began early in the night when the adult entertainer's presence in Tampa was first discovered by a follower of white nationalist Nicholas Fuentes and former Kansas State student Jaden McNeil, who wrote on Telegram, "Turning Point USA has a pornstar as a VIP at their Student Action Summit."

"Imagine sending your kids to this conference think they're gonna learn about Christian Conservative values, and they come home with photos with pornstars," he added, attaching a photo of Love snapping a picture with a TPUSA attendee.
Imagine being such a weirdo you ban a pornstar from hanging out at your conference.

Reminds me of when Amy Lindsay was in a Ted Cruz ad and when found out ad no longer aired.

Andrea Dick is a die-hard supporter of former President Donald J. Trump and thinks the election was stolen from him, although that claim has been thoroughly discredited. She does not like President Biden, and that is putting it mildly.

Her opinions are clear in the blunt slogans blaring from the banners outside her New Jersey home: “Don’t Blame Me/I Voted for Trump” and several others that attack Mr. Biden in crude terms. Several feature a word that some people find particularly objectionable but whose use the Supreme Court long ago ruled could not be restricted simply to protect those it offends.

When local officials asked her to take down several of the banners that they said violated an anti-obscenity ordinance, she refused. Now, she is resisting a judge’s order that she do so and pledging to fight it in court on free speech grounds.

“It’s my First Amendment right,” she said in an interview on Monday, “and I’m going to stick with that.”
...
Shortly after the holiday weekend, she said, she became aware that some Roselle Park residents, noting that her home was near a school, were upset about the language on the banners and about the potential for passing children to see it.

Ms. Dick, whose mother, Patricia Dilascio, owns the house, said that no children lived on the block and that no children routinely walk by on their way to the school.
I think she has a clear first amendment right to lose friends and alienate people. I would be interested in hearing how she believes upsetting her neighbors is helping Trump though.

Trump signs in crude terms is totally normal for that merch. I've seen the "fuck your feelings" Trump flags and stickers many times. Great material considering their own feelings constantly bubbling to the surface.

The former president encouraged all this through his own behavior and endorsements.
