So it is Friday the 15th. We are half way through the day on the East Coast. Monday is a holiday and inauguration is noon on the 20th. We just have to hang in there for a few more days until this national nightmare is over and we can begin our next national nightmare.

current sitting president uses presidential transport in breaking news shocker.

wait till you hear that, without senate conviction, the guy is entitled to a secret service detail for the rest of his life, too.

Watched an interview with a cop who was at capital hill during the riot. He said the people there thought the cops were going to defect to their cause and overthrow the government together. They were waving their thin blue line flags and shouting cop slogans at the cops in order to try to convince them to join the riot.

Good news: no mass defection of officers stationed at the capital hill and no defections from responding units. The officers decided that their well paid jobs provided by the state were worth protecting. In this way institutions held that day. It seems like security services in general are taking this very seriously and still see the political system as worth defending. This is why it is good to pay public workers well. Yay for public worker unions.

there have been two major failed coups this year and the other one was a pitiful attempt at regime change in bolivia. you don’t hear much about that because the west has egg on it’s face. a little too prematurely triumphant there.

also fucking LOL at still talking about ‘hipsters’ in 2021 whilst simultaneously linking edgy tweets from ‘@sleepisocialist’. my guy that IS the hipster archetype in 2020/2021. guys with lumberjack beards and facial grooming products is soooo williamsburg 2012.

Capitol riot suspect plotted to sell stolen Pelosi laptop to Russian intelligence, authorities say
A Pennsylvania woman accused of being one of the Capitol rioters told a former "romantic partner" that she planned to steal a laptop computer from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office and sell it to Russian intelligence, court documents revealed Monday.

The woman, Riley June Williams, 22, was on the run, charged with disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds with the intent to disturb a session of Congress and other charges after her former flame turned her in.

"Williams is not in custody," a federal law enforcement officials said Monday afternoon.

William's ex, who was described in Special Agent Jonathan Lund's charging document as W1 (witness one), called the FBI and said she "intended to send the computer device to a friend in Russia, who then planned to sell the device to SVR, Russia's foreign intelligence service."

It's really amazing how quickly your whole life can change sometimes. Imagine being a pretty 22 year old white girl with your whole life ahead of you on New Years and less than a month later you are wanted by the FBI for plotting to sell the Russians state secrets.

is this what dilbert and his dorky sister are complaining about when they rue the fact ‘no kids are good enough to join the air force’ anymore?

Brock was wearing several patches on his combat helmet and body armor, including one bearing a yellow fleur de lis, the insignia of the 706th Fighter Squadron. He also wore several symbols suggesting that he lived in Texas, including a vinyl tag of the Texas flag overlaid on the skull logo of the Punisher, the Marvel comic-book character. The Punisher has been adopted by police and Army groups and, more recently, by white supremacists and followers of QAnon. Scott-Railton also found a recently deleted Twitter account associated with Brock, with a Crusader as its avatar.
it’s fucking perfect. and yet dilbert still goes on about stereotypical ‘hipsters’. this guy above seems to have been designed like a bingo card.

Brock’s family members and his friend said that his service in the Air Force was central to his identity. Several of Brock’s e-mail addresses and social-media accounts featured his call sign and military nickname, Torch. One family member said that Brock derived “this weird sense of power” from his time as a military pilot, along with a Manichean world view. “He used to tell me that I only saw the world in shades of gray, and that the world was black and white,” the other family member said. “He doesn’t understand the fallout and the people he’s hurting. And I can’t imagine what he was doing there with zip ties, or what he thought he was going to accomplish.”
maybe dilbert is really onto something! those poor lost kids of today ... none of them will ever be good enough to be air force pilots :’)

dilbert's political trajectory and continual distancing of himself from trumpists, populists, the far-right, fascists, etc, is such a good show. it's like when jay slowly and inevitably morphed into the rabid republican complaining about tax and obama. 'oh, wait ... maybe i AM that thing i've been complaining about for so many years ... dam.'

These people are still totally at fault, but we should stop trying to discount the role Trump and his Republican bootlicks had in egging them on, making them believe that they're upholding America or whatever.

i don’t care. the law holds people responsible as legal adults. ‘nobody was forced to do it using microwaves or LSD’.

these people all have years worth of social media profiles; public declarations to friends, family, online; acres of chat log histories and conspiracies (all of which they’re now carefully trying to scrub and delete from the record).

you can hardly conclude they were misled or whipped into a frenzy. most of them have been proclaiming their beliefs for years.

now they get caught in military hardware carrying zip-ties in the middle of an armed insurrection and want to claim they were there because they’re ‘just curious’, and they’d picked up the zip ties ‘because they were on the floor and i wanted to hand them to an officer’.

i’ll remember that if i get arrested in possession of drugs. your honour, i found them and was just on my way to giving them to a nearby police officer ...

That's not my conclusion. I did say that the raiders were responsible. But I think the politicians giving them little pushes, encouragements, and egging them on should hardly get away with it without coming under some sort of scrutiny. (I also don't think it had zero influence). Instead, we've got a lot of language from Republicans to the effect of "now, now, dwelling on the past" etc. etc.

"Anybody who would stop and use the common sense that God gave them would realize the election was stolen. There’s no doubt about it. Too many irregularities. Too many things that just don’t happen by chance. And mathematically impossible,” Kentucky pastor John Isaacs said.

While few said they felt driven to join far-right groups such as militias or to march on state capitols in protests, many cited uncertainty about the future. Some vowed to stop participating in elections, while others promised primary payback against disloyal conservatives, reflecting the challenges ahead for establishment Republicans in a brewing internecine party battle with Trump’s more far-right followers.

“I don’t trust my government after all this crap. I was blind, but my eyes have been opened,” said Dotti Johnson, who wore a cap reading “Armed Infidel” in her McKee S&T general store.

Outside of Inez, in the unincorporated community of Tomahawk, hairdresser Gina Patrick, 60, said she grew up with a father who was a local reporter.

“They’re a communist party. They have radicalized to where they make no sense,” she said of Democrats.

“If somebody told you that if you didn’t see eye to eye with them they were going to take your kids away from you and put you in a concentration camp, and your children, have you reprogrammed, would you want to join with them?” she said. “That’s what the talk is. So, does that sound like unity to you?”
more glimpses into the reality-denying insanity aided and abetted by people like dilbert for their own covert white supremacist wet dreams.

I don't think revenge is a virtue or anything but I definitely believe there needs to be some sort of political punishment for everything Trump has said or done these last few years. And I really don't want to hear anything about Democrats "lowering the temperature" from a Trump supporter unless they acknowledge that most of the trouble came from Trump and their side in the first place.

I don't think they're usually going to acknowledge that. Even "centrist" Republicans I know will still dodge, deflect, and play devil's advocate.

He doesn't care about the Kentucky people, he doesn't care about the American people, he doesn't care about the GOP or the Democrats. He doesn't care about Trump or Biden.

He cares about money.

But that's the way most of them are in the end.
