I think the point I'm driving at, and I think Macbeth as well, is that there is reason to be concerned about young children's exposure to violent media. That's probably the simplest way of putting it.

You're right, people should probably pay attention to (sensible) ratings and use their brains when it comes to choosing games and movies for their kids to play and see. And also not let them munch an entire family sized bag of Ruffles.

I wouldn't even want a high schooler playing Air Port Massacre Simulator, regardless of whether MW2 was rated 17+ or teen.
yes, well, the flipside of this is that there's a tacit assumption that independent adults are capable of reviewing just about any material. that we shouldn't ban or censor things or limit expression. we read historical fiction and fantasy that talks about rape and incest and mass killings. isn't game of thrones deleterious for the imagination? a corrupting influence? who seriously entertains these beliefs? we as a society accept that, in terms of expression and imagination, the law should not interfere and the state should not choose.

i've seen plenty of things in art exhibitions and installations that are far more shocking than any videogame. the tacit assumption is that able-minded, of-age adults can freely contemplate these things. maybe it's voyeurism, maybe it's edifying and educational. but that's a different debate.

Adults glimpsing a sculpture of Pan having sex with a goat in context of a museum showing is probably less objectionable than a fourth grader playing mass shooter in a pixelated airport full of panicking AI.

What age group would you recommend Game of Thrones to?

I had an older brother who introduced me to doom and movies like conan the barbarian before I hit my teens. No effect whatsoever.

It's the direct environment that affects kids.

what a quaint view of art you have. try going into a modern art gallery and seeing the things on display. i'm not talking about effete and euphemistic classicism. i'm talking about entrails, rapes, gore, sodomy, anything you want.

re: GoT, see above. i wouldn't give pulpy fantasy to my children at any age. but we do consider it a thing of the parent's/individual's discretion. we don't wield placards and beat angry drums about these depictions.

Twitter said Tuesday it will not remove tweets from President Donald Trump that impugned MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, despite pleas from the family of a woman who died while working for Scarborough when he was a member of Congress.

The woman, Lori Klausutis, died in 2001 while working in Scarborough's congressional office. Medical authorities said her death stemmed from a heart condition that caused her to collapse and hit her head on her desk, but Trump has repeatedly pushed a baseless conspiracy theory that Scarborough was somehow involved in foul play.

Lori's husband, Timothy Klausutis, sent a letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on Thursday asking for the company to remove tweets from Trump that pushed the conspiracy theory.

Trump is just fighting back against the media who pushed unfair conspiracy theories about Russian interference in the election. The media has been the most unfair it has ever been to any president during Trump reign.

it shows how low the republican party has sunk that it's owning that sort of behaviour. a president accusing people, baselessly, of being murderers? stay classy.

trump has basically dragged political discourse into empty eristics, being determined to win any argument and have the last word. and republicans behave as if they're having some lame and convoluted bf2s argument. what they don't realize is that it isn't a social media thread or an internet forum, and that they are debasing your democracy itself.

The people over at Breitbart are agreeing with each other in the comments that Joe S. did in fact murder a woman in his office. Why would he murder her there and not someplace else is to be determined.

I'm not sure what part of that is supposed to be quaint. I linked a 2018 article from a psychology magazine and mentioned others. I don't think video games should be banned. I don't even think violent video games should be banned. I think parents should be careful of what media they expose their children to. Is that unreasonable? I think it's a pretty far cry from Jack Thompson railing against grand theft auto and rap lyrics. I think you might be making stuff up to wedge me into some South Park extreme.

Would you take a young child to see classical depictions of disembowelment or cannibalism?

your culture gives guns to children and encourages them to play as genocidal cowboys and barbaric indians. you've got a way to go yet if you want to cushion children from harmful exposure to violence. basic socialisation for children in the US involves being given a plastic revolver or a bow-and-arrow.
That notion might be a bit out of date.

I remember people asking whatever happened to "cowboys and indians" ten years ago, but fine, whatever, I'm a "pedant."

Also, oh no, you don't want to engage with me.

My day is ruined.

we both agree that video games do not cause massacres or terrorist incidents.

we both agree that common sense and discretion should be used with these things.

what more is there to say? my point is that we don't make alarmist noises about other forms of media, which are potentially far worse.

it's an argument of infinite regress. more controls, more censorship, more regulations. all propped up by tenuous connections to 'real harm'.

let's just save the next 3 days of back-and-forth over a gnat's fart.

yes, obviously i know that american children in 2020 are not playing cowboys and indians. way to miss the fucking point about violence in everyday culture. this is why you are a pedant and/or a 'sperger. you really want to go back and forth over cowboys and indians? ok bro.

Honestly I don't care. It was your choice of words. I don't even know why you brought it up. What about museums? Are gory displays there seriously competing with video games for the attention of 13 year olds?

Whatever, 'bro.' You're frustrated, so you fall back to this and hope it's the last word. You and Jay could really get along better considering. Maybe you do in some mirror universe.

my point was adults don’t take their children into modern art museums full of video art about the cambodian killing fields. they exercise judgment. the same applies to video games. it’s such a fucking non-argument, this.

You still had to roll out some nastiness even though we both apparently agree that parents shouldn't let their kids play violent video games. Why do you gotta do me like that after I had your back in that stupid monitor argument? Hertz, bro.

I have one 1/144 I need to finish. All of the ones you have seen were either 1/100 or SD. I will finish it tomorrow just so I can show you and RTHKI. The chest is already done.

They are in my parent's dining room display. The dining room display case started off full of fancy dining plates and glasses like in the picture but slowly all of that stuff was put in storage in favor of vacation trinkets, models, memorabilia, collectables etc. The president isn't coming over for dinner so who are we trying to impress with fancy plates?

I don't want the figures in my living area because I want to project normality to guest. It's very important to me that people think I am normal.

Do you want to see my dice?
