Online Bernie supporters on Twitter and Reddit are refusing to vote for Biden. Bernie endorsed Biden but whatever fools will be fools. This is a good example of why even though I vote Democrat every time I am still registered independent. I have no interest in getting into the petty intraparty disputes that lead people to cut off their noses to spite their face.

And Bernie's supporters being stupid and vindictive is a reflection on Sanders.

the problem is that the full range of political opinion does not fit into a two-party system. this cannot be news to anyone. a democratic centrist like biden and a progressive sanders supporter have almost nothing in common, except their notional opposition to big bad red guy in the white house. it's stupid to be honest.

I don't like the system either but if you want to change the system, you need to master it and get involved with it. Instead launching a suicide attack on Biden, they should be working on lower levels to build up a base of support and take over the party.

This is what most annoys me about Sanders. Complete and total ignorance and disregard for party politics. You would think a communist would be interested in party politics but not Bernie. If he was a good politician, he would have wrapped up this primary in December of 2016.

i mean, they aren't unjustly aggrieved. the entire democratic establishment just launched a torpedo against sanders campaign. again.

i agree that bernie's lack of compromise and party-political savvy has cost him. same thing happened with the similarly unelectable corbyn (i had no great sympathy for him either). but in both cases it's true that their stubborn qualities, admired by the faithful, combined with a very slippery and dishonest party machine.

I honestly don't mind old white people being leaders. If a white guy in the White House keeps a certain segment of voters from going crazy then fine. As long as they vote D they can do whatever they want.

The Democrat party didn't do anything wrong to Bernie. Moderate candidates decided they couldn't win and threw their support behind a moderate. There is nothing illegal or immoral about that.

Interesting that Corbyn and Sanders are both from the same generation of lefties.

In any case, I still would have preferred Mayor Pete but I have more confidence in Biden than Bernie going into the general election. I think he definitely could have pulled it off in 2016 at least.

It depends on what strategy you want to take. The Republicans aren't going to enact universal healthcare, and the Biden wing doesn't seem enthused about it, either. Republican naked incompetence and greed is useful in that it's much clearer to the average person that shit is fucked up. The Democrats are much more concerned with making sure their acts appear to help people, whether or not they actually do. It gives them cover to say "hey, we're doing things for you" that is less black and white than the Trump tax cuts for the rich.

Republicans in power are objectively terrible for people, but Democrats don't have a problem with appeasing them and propping up the systems that have worsened inequality over the last few decades. Jay said something a couple days ago about the Democrats being the party of Wall Street, which is true insofar as both Democrats and Republicans are. If you want to reform the system, people need to see and acknowledged it's not working.

Yeah. In the U.S., states run their elections and not the federal government. I am not sure if the federal government even has a say in how the elections of the electoral college representatives are made. The states just need to send them.

The blue states are going to have their elections even if they need to do mail in ballots. The swing States will have their elections because they don't want to lose their importance. The deeply red states? Who knows. I am not sure if the state government can just appoint electors or how many would if Trump asked. Still though the sort of coup is beyond Trump's ability.

Yup. We may have a praetorian guard situation where the secret service has to decide whether to escort Trump from the White House by force or go along with his coup.

He's never even seemed like he really wanted the job to me. I think he'd much rather go back to calling into the Howard Stern show or Hannity.

He has burned so may bridges that the moment he is a private citizen he is going to get indicted for campaign finance violations and various types of fraud. Hanging onto to power is the only way he escapes that.

Pretty sure he's immune. Dunno why this weird fantasy has been going on since before he was elected though.

He's legally not immune. He is already named in a bunch of open and closed corruption investigations. He has also angered and alienated so many people that they will want revenge or to set an example for future leaders.

Trump's been talking about being President for decades, its the one thing he's always wanted.

He also likes playing the 'reluctant hero'.

Doubtful. He'll be forgotten as soon as he leaves office. Democrats only hate the thing in front of them.
