Maybe in Russia, elsewhere crimes are decided by statute, and everyone is equal under the law, including the govt.

For example murder is a crime, if the govt does it its still a crime.

that's why we in russia don't really want to become a part of your "elsewhere".

Bit different. Person's working for or members of government can be charged with criminal offence but you can't really charge a government with a crime as they are a legal person. How are you going to imprison a government lol.

I guess Shahter really enjoys how Russia essentially doesn't have a rule of law.

Snowden has a better case than manning if it were going to proper courts. However since these a crimes of espionage I doubt he would face a public court or an impartial jury. However what the NSA and PRISM has done is not necessarily illegal because it is well within their organization mandate.

Do you know how many former intelligence officials have leaked information and not gone to prison for it? Here is a list.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Tamm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russ_Tice
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Andrews_Drake
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perry_Fellwock

These were just cases in the 21st century. They all stood around and accept the consequences of their actions and none of them did any prison time.

As long as government workers don't commit crimes they'll be perfectly safe.

Don't worry. "President Putin has assumed "personal control" of the investigation into the killing, said his spokesman Dmitry Peskov".

really? of course, every assange and manning always takes all the nececcary pre-cautions not to fuck up someone who's not responsible for "crimes" committed by the "evil government". oh, wait, they couldn't possibly take those pre-cautions because they don't have all the info...
well, too bad, freedom-freedom-freedom-oy!

Yeah, he's dead, from a targeted murder certainly as a result of his opposition politics. That's one way to deal with criticism, I guess...

that's quite a statement. and your evidence? - let me guess, you have about as much of it for this as you had for "wmd's in iraq", right? and for "bin laden in afghanistan"? and for "malasian boeing shot down by separatists" in ukraine? i thought so.

that's like Mitt Romney dying right before the election next to the Pentagon/Congress.

Either this shows that the security situation in russia is fucking bullshit or putin offed the guy. I'd go for both.

you don't get it. ask yourself, how many times have you heard about nemtsov before? not many? you know why? - he was a political nobody. his ratings where basically non-existent (if anything, he was bitterly hated for being a part of gaidar's "shocking therapy" programs which left a lot of people completely ruined during yeltsyn's times), he lost every and all elections to all meaningful posts he ever run for - in a shell, he was about as dangerous to putin (who's current approval ratings are over 80%) as a fruit fly.

and then putin... has the fucker offed? really? he has it done two days before a major "opposition protest march" is scheduled to happen, on camera, in front of the moscow kremlin wall, all while nemtsov's dumbfuck ukrainian bitch is watching? what?!?

you know, putin may be many things, but stupid he's not, if anything, nemstov's death is really unfortunate for him and his reputation, especially at this time, and he sure as hell knows that.

there. now leave the fucker be. this thread is about snowdens and the likes, nemtsov, a sorry nobody that he was, is kinda uninteresting in comparison.

You must admit Shahter its oddly suspicious that a member of the opposition died. Whether it was done by Putin's inner circle or purposely had not been provided the security necessary, it's not exactly a good look. I know putin has massive political advantage in Russia, but leadership does dumb things despite them being ahead in popularity (look at watergate with nixon).

absolutely, especially so if one takes into account that nobody but a very small number of liberal-minded cretins gave any fucks.

Whether it was done by Putin's inner circle or purposely had not been provided the security necessary, it's not exactly a good look.
why should putin - or anybody else for that reason - have provided any special security for the fucker?

I know putin has massive political advantage in Russia, but leadership does dumb things despite them being ahead in popularity (look at watergate with nixon).
uh-huh.

now, if not putin (who, trust me, had given zero fucks about nemtsov), who else could have benefited from nemtsov's death? answer that and you'll have a better idea about what really happened.

Because as a member of government they get security detail especially if there's a real risk their life is at risk? If someone sends me death threats, you can bet the cops would take more notice and watch my house if the threat is dangerous enough.

maybe nemtsov didn't ask to be watched? maybe he didn't want to be watched dilly-dallying with that bitch? i dunno. and honestly, i don't care.

These were just cases in the 21st century. They all stood around and accept the consequences of their actions and none of them did any prison time.
"Snowden was asked in a January 2014 interview about returning to the U.S. to face the charges in court, as Obama had suggested a few days prior. Snowden explained why he rejected the request: "What he doesn't say are that the crimes that he's charged me with are crimes that don't allow me to make my case. They don't allow me to defend myself in an open court to the public and convince a jury that what I did was to their benefit. … So it's, I would say, illustrative that the President would choose to say someone should face the music when he knows the music is a show trial."[83][266] Snowden's legal representative, Jesselyn Radack, wrote that "the Espionage Act effectively hinders a person from defending himself before a jury in an open court, as past examples show," referring to Thomas Drake, John Kiriakou and Chelsea Manning. Radack said that the "arcane World War I law" was never meant to prosecute whistleblowers, but rather spies who sold secrets to enemies for profit. Under this law, she states, "no prosecution of a non-spy can be fair or just."[267]"

who gives a fuck? he was poisoned, and then objective and independent western media reported it in such a way that to any freedom loving person it's obvious that it's evil putin who personally gave litvinenko an enema laced with polonium.

Kinda odd that someone was able to access such a specific nuclear material only state entities can obtain to murder someone.

nemtsov? member of the government? O_o
Was he not a member of the legislative? That makes him a member of the government even though he was in opposition.
