Apple Watch won't fail dude.  Too many fanboys to snatch it up.  And it's intriguing and an interesting new direction.  When I was watching the announcement I was already thinking about both all the data capture its capable of and the potential extensions of simple accelerometers and simple heart sensors.  On one hand it's kind of scary to think about the next step in big data mining.  Not only will they have your browsing habits, they will have your physical activity habits, heart rates, etc.  Big data mining for biometric data?  Woah, not sure I'm ready for that.  Unless of course the watch notices that I beat off at 6:30am every morning and recommends me a porn based on my browsing habits and favorite sites.  On the other hand, having wearable tech that could eventually detect blood diseases, infection, malnutrition, heart palpitations, etc. is a pretty fucking cool idea to think about.

"Sir, it's 6:30am.  I've queued up big black butt sluts 5 for you on redtube.  I noticed your average wank time is 3 minutes based on your previous jerk history, so I've gone ahead and found a video lasting a little longer for you.  Good wanking, sir." To which I would most definitely reply, "Siri, you're the BEST".  Then as soon as the watch recognizes that my arm isn't shaking like an epileptic anymore, it automatically closes the video and brings up my meeting commitments for the day.  That, my friend, is a future I'm willing to pay for.

I don't see it becoming an iconic luxury item like the iPhone has. Unlike the iPhone and iPad, there is already an old and established market for watches. If you want a nice looking watch, you go with any number of other classic brands. I can see it becoming a thing for people who ride bikes or excercise a lot but otherwise no.

iconic luxury item? what dude?

do you know any one with a fitbit?  I know at least 10 people that have them.  This is much more than a fit bit.  And apple has a track record of creating markets out of thin air.  You don't think you need or want one until they tell/show you all the reasons why you need it.

The iPhone is an iconic luxury item. When people think smartphone, they think of iphones first. When people say luxury watch, expensive watch, nice watch, they say Rolex or a bunch of other brands. They say those brands because they are well known, established, and have a long history. It won't catch on in the same way the iphones did.

I never even heard of a fitbit until now. Like I said, athletic types might like it, but otherwise the normal person won't care. People stopped wearing watches because cellphones do everything a watch does better. Why own an iwatch when you already have an iphone? So you can track your heartbeat? Whoop de do.

Apple is a company not magicians. They will have failures at some point.

See that's how apple will market the watch, it won't be a regular watch, it'll be a fucking james bond watch.

Same thing with the iPhone, it wasn't a "phone" they pretty much used bullshit terms to pretty much says its a mini laptop with a phone on it. that's how they essentially created the smartphone market.

People will fall for fads and we'll see how well apple does with this bullshit. My bet is they'll do good.

The reason the ipod, iphone and ipad are HUGELY succesfuly is because of software environment integration. pop your ithing into your computer and itunes loads everything onto it etc etc. That's the main reason why it's so popular, it's software ease of use.

they've had a lot of failures.  you can't succeed in business without failures.  WE probably haven't heard of half the failures they've had.  But dude you are comparing an iwatch to a rolex....c'mon now.  I don't think rolex and apple are competing for the same demographic.

The iphone is NOT a luxury item dude.  It's a $600 phone.  It's iconic, but not a luxury item at all.  A $350 watch isn't a luxury item either - that's not what they are going for.  Add another 0 and you have a luxury watch.

Do me a favor and the next time you crawl out of your cave count how many people you see on the street wearing a watch vs. not wearing one.  It will surprise you.

When you can get a perfectly good phone or watch for $5-$20 then a $600 and/or $350 version is indeed a 'luxury' item. Basically your argument is a BMW/Merc for 50-80k is not a luxury car because some Ferrari/Lambo is $300k, which is just wrong.

As for how many people wear watches, practically no one. A small minority use them as their primary time keeping device, a larger minority as a fashion accessory and then a large majority don't wear one at all.

I don't know of any "perfectly good phone or watch" available for $5-$20.  Yes, I can go buy a $5 watch...it will be a piece of shit.  Same with a $20 phone.

Based on your reasoning, my corolla is a luxury car because i can buy a car for faaar cheaper.  Something as ubiquitous as an iphone is not a luxury item simply because you can buy something that performs some of the same functions for cheaper.

I just counted 10 out of 21 men here in my office that wear watches.  As for the functionality of the watch itself, it's of no relevance to this discussion.  I definitely think its more of the older generation that wear watches and this isn't necessarily the demographic apple is going after, but that actually reinforces my belief that the iwatch will do well - 18-35 year olds that don't currently wear a watch will buy this.

Of course I'm speaking just of first world economies.  Surely the iphone is a luxury item in places like Asia and South America where the sell price approaches the monthly per capita income.

disagree for single player, agree for multiplayer. I haven't fucked around with MP yet, but it's supposed to have a matchmaking system.  I think CS GO does a great job with their matchmaking, so I have hope.
