Why aren't air hand dryers a household item?
Because they suck: They take too long to dry your hands, are often loud as hell and use more electricity. And typically in your house, you don't worry about unsanitary people putting their hands on things as much as a business would, which is one reason, in addition to less upkeep, as to why many of them use air dryers instead of paper towels.
The only ones I've seen that actually work good are the newer ones where you put your hands in from above and it has strong bladeless fans that are circularly contoured to where your hands go, and those ones are only in very expensive places.

Maybe at your supermarkets, I've only seen them once here at this place called Busboys & Poets, a new hipster bar & grille in DC

I am at a Chinese Mexican food place owned by Chinese. The woman who works there is very pretty. The place is very strange in many ways though. She is cooking over a deep fryer while wearing a wool coat. It is 65 degrees out.
