jim crow was de jure segregation, which was comfortably within living memory. a whole slew of zoning rules and policy or market led initiatives have added to de facto segregation.

May be asking why I posted this here. The real answer is that I clicked on the wrong thread. The salvage is that Republicans have made a big deal of defending racist cops and problematic, race-based behaviors where convenient. And then dropping cops like a rock the minute they clash with Republican rioters.

Probably shouldn't interact with them unless you have to. I think I remember a case or two where a casual greeting or off-hand comment ended up in a confrontation between a citizen and a cop in a foul mood. Even old white guys who might otherwise shoot the shit about how bad BLM is run the risk of getting curb stomped.

Cops are like the "lost dogs" of people. You can't go near them because they might go mad.
I saw some generic liberal people today unironically sharing thin blue line flags in response to 2 Chicago cops shot, one fatally, during a traffic stop over the weekend. I don't know why some people can't just take a nuanced position rather than swinging to an extreme. It is possible (and not even that hard) to both entertain the thoughts that many of our police structures are inherently racist, overly aggressive, and corrupt while also not wishing death on them.

A lot of the people who would get loudly personally upset at a reddit joke thread on a video of a cop getting offed are the same people cheering bombs dropping on ISIS or child molesters getting killed in prison. Those bombs we drop on ISIS also oftentimes kills their children but we just brush that aside for reasons.
American police have killed more innocent black Americans probably just this year than the entirety of ISIS history. If middle class Americans can revel at the destruction of their enemies in the middle east, why can't black Americans enjoy seeing a little blue blood in the streets? What makes black Americans hatred towards their enemies less legitimate than say Jay's hatred of ISIS?
I am not making a case for people not celebrating dead enemy combatants or violent criminals or cops. It's definitely bad karma and people shouldn't do it but people will. All that I ask is that cop supporters spare everyone the sanctimony.

99% of the things the Taliban and ISIS do they do in their part of the world. All trolling aside, I have no issue with how they do things in their part of the world. Whatever they are up to doesn't warrant the "kill them all" mentality from American pig men. Of course no group deserves to get all killed but you know the aforementioned pig people are the ones posting flag memes and crying eagles on Facebook every time someone goes postal on American cops.
