I'm not a total technocrat if that is the implication. I understand that political decision making is different in many ways, but I don't quite agree with the (very) relativistic tone of the article. Whatever position one assumes, it should have a basis in reality. You don't get to conjure your own makebelief analysis and ignore contrary evidence/arguments because they inconvenience you. Whatever policy follows from analysis, i.e. what politics decides to do, comes after first establishing some basic facts. In the example of corona it starts with a common understanding of its pathology, the dangers the virus poses to various age groups and to the health services. How then to best mitigate worst case scenarios and organise lockdowns is a different more political question with many regional, sectoral & national variables. As long as each presents an informed and legitimate argument, you're allowed every disagreement.
