I have decided to rebuild my system since my old one is crud.  I am keeping the screen, hard disc and the speakers though.  How does this look;

Ram-                DDR2 1G(1024MB) PC4200 RAM(single stick)                                              $109.00
Ram-                DDR2 1G(1024MB) PC4200 RAM(single stick)                                              $109.00
Graphics Card-    Gigabyte NX76T256D-RH GEF7600GT, 256MB, DDRIII                                   $255.00
Motherboard-    Gigabyte GA-945P-S3 mATX Core 2 Dual DDRII667 SATAII GbE P4 M/B          $169.00
Processor-      AMD Athlon™ 64 AM2 3800+ Processor Retail (AM2)                                 $188.00
Keyboard/Mouse-        Microsoft Black Value Pack Keyboard&mouse                                $47.00
Power-        Power Supply 500W with 12CM Fan (ATX)                                                        $47.00
Case-             Antec Superlanboy Aluminum Case( with PSU)                                              $165.00
Cooling-    Inc. with case is a low-speed 120mm fan (rear) and a low-speed 120mm
                    blue LED fan (front)

                                                                                                                             Total  $1,089.00 AUD
                                                                                                                                      ~$820.74 USD
                                                                                                                                      ~₤639.53 EUR

Now I dont know to much about computers so dont give me a hard time. Also, do sound cards come built into the motherboard these days, or should I be getting another?  My budget is ~$1000, so nothing to expensive.

I am sure you can find a cheaper Chip than that, sure 64 amd chip are cheaper(well they are here)
And most motherboards come with built in soundcards, unless you want super duper sound.

You can probably go with a 7900gt gfx card mwave has them for $260
You may also want to go with a SLI rdy Mobo for possible future upgrade.

Mwave is not Australian, and I don't particularly want to ship from overseas.  Best I can find at umart is in the high 400's, too much.

You should be able to get ddr2 with that mobo. but the 7600gt needs to go.   Your gonna want 7900 or ati equivalent. i have dual BFG tech 7900gts and they run like a dream.

As stated before, the 7900gt is out of my price range.

Bugger it. AMD have always been the best. You want a duel core processor from the GAMING PROCESSOR COMPANY? Get the AMD 64 X2 series processor then. This rave over Intel's Core 2 duo is idiotic PR hype with many fools being dragged along buy it.

Go with the 7600GS it will play the game. Then save your money and get a DX10 card when they come out.

I don't think the motherboard you have is compatible with the AMD chip.  I think it's a core 2 board.  You need one with "socket AM2", the same as your processor.  Yes the ram will fit.  And most motherboards have built in sound cards

I dont know much about what most of you are saying, but I'm trying.  So your saying get a core 2 duo processor, or a core 2 duo motherboard which I have?  Or am I off the mark?
