whats this new cost thing on the stats?
How much paid to enjoy BF2. Cents Per Hour.
Here is how it went down in HQ:
Chuy - "Hey, check out the newest feature on the stats page... it shows how much you have paid per hour to play bf2. Mouse over the cph and it says 'cents per hour!'"
Me - "Nifty! Wait... rollover explaination, eh? Yeah, we will end up seeing thousands of threads saying, 'What the heck does cph mean?!' all over the forums."
Chuy - "Oh well..."

cents per hour on your stats are not usefull :s
Lol. Hey I didn't ask i went to hover first THEN check out if there were such threads..
Its not accurate, You have to include beer, cigarettes etc. And various other opportunity costs.

we posted exactly on the same time polar
it cant be accurate because what if some people have gone to lan places then you pay more to play dont u???
Should change total time played to 'total time neglecting things you SHOULD be doing'.

I just don't see a reason for it.. unless ea is secretly researching an average to offer these online games for free and just have a pay per hour thing, tweaking it slightly so that they end up getting more $$ in the end.
i like it. I like knowing that every hour that goes by has only cost me a quarter. Theres much more expensive things i could have been doing with my time.... I mean a quarter doesnt even buy you an hour on a parking meter.
It's for fun
Yes but an hour can earn you a lot more than a couple of cents and feeling good about yourself cuz you bwned some M203 n00b.
It's the pointy bit at the end of a stick jk[N.B]canadiannnn wrote:

No point, just fun I suppose. Do we get a refund if we keep getting killed and we don't enjoy it as much
What are you, an accountant? Amortizing the cost of the game?chuyskywalker wrote:

actually, right now it's about 5 threads...tF-voodoochild wrote:

Anyways, i think it's a good idea. Better if you could set your currency or something though. And not everyone got their games for full price...
And also voodoo, there should only be 1 thread. This one
Unless ofcourse you announce it
Yes... there should only be one thread. And people should use the search function, and money should grow in my pockets, and ice cream should fall from the sky! Man that would rock!Locarno wrote:

As for some of the other people wondering what the point of it all is... FUN! It's just a fun little number, fun fun fun! After all, isn't that the whole point of the video game in the first place, to be fun and entertaining?
Jeez, learn how to lighten up a bit people. The only valid response I've seen so far is that cents isn't a valid monetary standard for people around the world... Fair enough, though I think a conversion thing might be a little tough to work out.
So how do they calculate this? it says $50 base. What does that mean exactly? Is that how much I paid for the game?
yes, assuming you paid $50 for the game, this divides that cost by the number of hours youve played and gives you that final number in terms of cents.
its not for EA or anything, its just for entertainment purposes.
no, its not exact. it does not take into account what youre paying for internet, or what you paid for your computer, or the amount of money you couldve earned by working instead of playing, or anything of the sort. it simply takes a base amount paid for the game and divides it by the amount of time spent playing.
this is elementary school level math here, its not rocket science. also, if you dont like it, then dont look at it. personally, i find it interesting. thank you chuy for implementing it.

You know.... I read this thread earlier this morning and something kinda stuck in my head.... I just realized, sadly, what it was...
In my mind, the CPM logic is somewhat backwards.. ya see, I'm a Software Architect, and even at my discounted rate I bill out at $75/hour USD..
As I see it, my BF2 CPM is actually around $1.46 - or a calculated average cost in lost revenue to me and my family of about $18,150.
...I find this disturbing and unsettling..... perhaps when I make First Sergeant, I'll feel better....
Woot.
I'm morbidly curious as to the total BF2 playtime (all players) factored by a globally average hourly income (we have 6yr olds playing, so I understand this is a tough number to lock onto).

Conduct a survey to determine how many non-workers play BF2, then factor them into a category of time that could have been spent in education. Use the remainder to determine the stats you want.
I was the one to mention this idea in the first place nd Chuy liked it and said he would implement it. My reasoning is that most of us pay for entertainment in one way or another.
If I buy a book and it costs A$20 and I take a month to read it, thats good value for money. Movies cost A$15.50 for 2 hours.... not so good value for money.
A DVD costs A$25.00 for a 2 hour movie, but I will probably watch a good one 20 - 50 times excellent value for money.
Now I also play BF2 it cost me A$90. But I have played tones so it works out about A .60cents an hour to play, I already have the computer and internet connection, so it is amazing value for money....
This is of course in my free time, when otherwise I would be sitting on the couch or something.

Chuy: Do you get stats on how long people spend reading/posting to forums ?
Could you implement a total forum time stat and a 'cost of forum time' stat as a factor of given persons current bf2 play cph?
I.e. What it 'cost' to read/post to forum instead of playing BF2...
