its nice, but for 1491$ you could probably do better. did you price these yourself, or is this a pre-build price?

Yeah, but $1500 is my budget. I'm try to stay $1500 or lower.

Is this a new machine or just a couple upgrades to your existing one. If you don't mind me asking how much are you spending on the P4.

Ram is a definite. I wonder about the performance increase of the CPU but for 26 bucks why not.

Well its a pre-built computer, and then you tell them what you want.

The pre-built computer is $1262 (without GST), and I added another $26 dollars for a better CPU and $119 for 2GB's or ram. So the total is $1491 (including GST)

Kmarion, it is a new machine. This computer I have now is 5 years old, it wouldn't hold up to the upgrades.

Ah I see, you are looking at a semi-custom.
Is this a local company ?

It's a local company. We don't trust ordering from some place, cause when you have problems, you have to ship it down to get it fixed (and I not an expert with computers to fix it myself)

Also, I'm tired of hassling with this computer, and the choppy gameplay of BF2. I'm not waiting for DX10, and it's gunna be way to expensive anyways.

That's a good price, but you have to consider, it's probably US prices, and then I'd have to pay for S&H.

I'll stick with the local store. Thanks anyways.

Hey, do any of you guys know a website where you can take a stock PC and put upgrades on it and get a final cost? Kinda like what you can do at the Slienware website, but I can't afford an Alienware.

all things considered though (i am not fully aware of your ordering limitations and such) it is a good machine. The video card will help you run well. You may also consider getting the pentium d 805 dual-core processor (which is pretty damn cheap) and then overclocking the heck out of it. I believe that is the one people have been OC'ing up to 3+ghz with air cooling and getting very nice results.

Yeah, I was thinking Dual Core, I don't know how much that would cost to upgrade though.

I can always go back and ask how much a dual core processor would cost.

www.ibuypower.com is a pretty good estimate on cost for building rigs

Mine is:

Windows XP pro
AMD x2 4800 939 inc heatsink and fan
Asus A8n32sli deluxe board
650watt PSU
4 GB 400mhz RAm
120GB IDE HDD
200GB SATA II HDD
dvd r/w
dvd rom
floppy
PCI-E 7800GTX 512mb Graphics card

and it cost £720 GBP which is just over $ 1500 canadian dollars.

Granted I built it myself but most of the parts were from abroad ( USA / Europe) That price also includes S&H.

My advice ( if you are confident at building) try Ebay. !!!!! Thats what I did!

This is where I did that setup to show you.
http://ibuypower.com/mall/lobby.htm

Why do you need 4GB's of RAM?
Vista Home Basic and Home N will be limited to 8GB of RAM, whereas Home Premium will support up to 16GB of RAM on both 32-bit and 64-bit PCs. All the other products will support the maximum physical memory size on 32-bit systems and up to 128GB of RAM on x64 systems (although Microsoft could increase that amount in the future because that figure is soft-limited). What does this mean ? I forsee a big price drop and more companies push the larger memory.
I have up to 4 gigs as well in my new machine being built . If it's is impeding my performance I can put it in my other one http://www.flickr.com/photos/tampastorm/227737244/ .
