EA will (hopefully) transfer all the accounts that have at least one unlock that way all the account that have points will be on a new database and all the accounts that got made but were never used get deleted.

If it's true, it's EA's best attempt yet to make the game played for fun.

BF2 is being turned into crap IMO.

It's not even gunna be worth playing, neither will 2142, if they decide to ruin it as well.

You have to learn the rules of the game and then you have to play better than anyone else.

Hope it's not true....
I would like to be able to play BF2 after 2142 come to the store and have my account... they can't kill all the accounts and still expect people to trust EA enough to buy the new game.... what will happen with that then...

They really should get rid of the BF2 bugs and show all the players that they can make a good product so they want to buy the new game....

If they don't fix it they are doing a "Microsoft"...."we can't get this to work so we sell a new product instead and only support that..."

They're probably upping their life insurance rates.

EA wouldn't do this. Why?

-Most BF2 players are crack-addict statwhores. If EA removed said stats, they would be outraged and not get 2142. EA would thus not get as much money. EA without money is like humans without hearts, kidneys, brains, and livers.

-They'd get a huge lawsuit for causing "unnecessary emotional pain" from the parents of the Top 50.

This was posted and apparently removed from gamespy:

EA BF2 CRISIS!

After this months announcement of a delay in the release of the much anticipated patch 1.4, the final patch to be issued for Battlefield 2 comes some good news: the patch is ready to go. However, gamers expecting the changes, fixes and improvements much discussed and debated on the Battlefield community's many web forums are set for a big shock. A Gamespy insider has revealed that despite the DICE testing team throwing much time and EA money at Battlefield 2's multitude of problems they still keep popping up, and despite the delay and an extensive public and private testing plan no solutions were found. The final patch will be put out next week with the Comcast sponsored map 'Road to Jalalabad' but minus the essential fixes promised. Not good news, and not news likely to please the army of fans seemingly ready to riot outside the doors of EA hq unless they're fixed. The problems in question were introduced with the May release of the 1.3 patch, an essential update to implement the lucrative 'Armored Fury' booster pack and therefore one, unlike earlier faulty patches, that couldn't be rolled back. Gamers have experienced frequent server crashes, game crashes and a large number of multiplayer glitches that have rendered the game an unplayable mess for most. As a result according to Gamespy statistics, player numbers have dwindled by as much as 40%, whilst the UK based server provider Multiplay reports that ranked server rentals have dropped by 60% in just 2 months. Things are set to get worse for BF2 players however with the news that EA will sever their ties with Gamespy over the persistent scoring system that is hosted by the US provider, possibly as early as October 1. Players who have entered the EA Battlefield 2142 pre release program will be able to retain their in game ranks, however all scores and awards will go offline as EA switches from the Gamespy login service to its own in house system. Judging by the popularity of Battlefield 2's scoring and ranks this will not be a well recieved move to say the least, and will no doubt further irritate players expected to purchase another EA Battlefield title just over a year past Battlefield 2's release, and one expansion and two booster packs later. Regarding Battlefield 2142, the release date is apparently set to be moved up from November to late September after the public beta test revealed the game to be in better shape than first imagined. Whether anybody will be around to play it is another matter.

I have to say that the forum for ea bf2.co.uk has to have the worst server ever. They know they get lots of traffic, and it's EA, richest motherfuckers that make games on the planet, so it's no excuse to have a crap server.

Peice of shit never works. Why do people bother going there.

If they do that shit, why wouldn't everybody just go back to a pre-1.3 patch without all the server crashing bullshit?

As for the stats thing, that blows but it won't ruin my day, it's about time for the mods to take over.

Like I said before - FUCK EA!!  I'm not buying that futuristic trash.

Even though we cannot confirm the truth about this.  Think about it for a minute. Where are all the EA servers?  Can anyone find any?  If not and, at one time you knew they existed what does that tell you?  Is it possible to believe they are cutting back? If so, why would they do it?  Is it possible to believe they might end BF2 as we know it?  Well all I can say is anything is possible.
