I use AOL and I've never had any problem with them apart from a couple of disconnects which I think were my fault with where I had filters.

I know a couple of guys on here who swear by plusnet and they know what they are talking about so it must be good.

I'd give plusnet a try.

EDIT: Didn't know about the download charges. That's looking like a poorer deal now. I'd say try AOL but you can't just try something these days, you have to sign up for 12 months. I'm sure they must have a cooling off period with it being a 12 month contract. If they have, sign up, if you don't like the service within the cooling off period tell them you want to quit.

I'm with Plus net and they are fucking ace i'm paying £21 a month but you get 50p off every month for every one you recommend.

8mb broadband with No download limit out of peak hours and you have to download over 20gb in peak (4pm - midnight) before they do anything and when they do they just slow your connection slightly, ie you DO NOT GET CHARGED EXTRA for using the bandwidth.

Or if you are a sky customer get free broad band or MAX 16mb for a tenner.

Seriously Plus net is great and the customer service is amazing speak with them or log an online ticket and it gets answered straight away...

I'm currently synching at 7600kbs with a stable rate of 6000, using a wireless router playing BF2 on my laptop with no lag and very low ping.

Supanet I've heard good things about. I don't know f2s. Plusnet I'm not so sure about though. A friend of mine runs Plusnet and has lots of problems with it. He gets a lot of timeouts and disconnects, but I think that it something to do with his local exchange.

Pay as you go deals are rubbish. Always get unlimited deals. I download more than 20GB a day on average so no limited deals would suit me. You don't want to worry about how much internet you can use, that'd be rubbish.

I've been with Telewest for all of my broadband experience, and I pay £15 a month for 8mb - soon to be 16mb, I hear. There has been no loss of my speed or connection at all - as suggested before I'd see how many are using cable in your area before you really consider it fully (I guess I'm a little lucky).

But, if we are to see which companies have the most potential you look to the cable companies as this has proved to be the most successful connector on the continent, I believe.

For more clarification check out these nice tables which seem to support what I state.

Technically all broadband is the UK, all ADSL broadband at least, is supplied by BT. They own all the phone lines and exchanges, only cable providers are truly independent of BT.

I used to be on Blueyonder (Telewest) but since they upgraded my 2mb to 10mb for "loyalty" the connection seemed to be more unstable, was £35.  My dad had 8mb BT ADSL for work - and that seemed stable; have also heard good things about Talk Talk - but from non gam0r h4x0r pr0z.

At uni at the moment and pay £150 (flat rate - year) for my current connection (see sig).  Think it's subcontracted through ask4 internet; which are lovely for giving me a <10 ping ingame & stability.

And Telewest is teh suck - you'd get more internet connectivity from plugging 2 cables up my dogs rear-end. Trust us on this.

I've been with BT for quite a while now. They were always reliable till they shifted their customer service and technical support to India where some of those bloody Indians don't give a damn about the customers. Not to mention that it's well odd listening to a particularly strong Indian accent when we're talking about BRITISH Telecom!

Only recently a simple problem of mine took over a month to be sorted out cos "someone" conveniently decided not to make a note of my complaint despite having reassured me that they were going to look into it a.s.a.p.

This is compensated somewot by BT giving out freebies for stuff that they haven't got in stock like the BT Home Hub phone. So far I've gotten 2 free cordless home phones from them. The first one wos an apologetic gift for still not having the Home Hub phone in stock. The 2nd one I don't know why as I wos just checking up on the stock situation - and I ain't gonna go around asking questions why I got a 2nd free cordless colour home phone worth about a 100 quid according to their website.

They even sent me another Home Hub after another Indian customer service advisor couldn't get to the bottom of a phone line problem and assumed that it wos a faulty Home Hub when it wos in fact a lack of microfilters on the other lines in the flat that were causing a really bad static down the phone line.

F2S are good!! I've been with them for a couple of years now and get 8mb adsl (was 2mb initially) for £14.99 p/m ...i've gone over the transfer allowance pretty much every single month and never had to pay an extra penny.

I agree.. the UK is like a third-world country when it comes to internet. It's overpriced, mostly limited, and it has horrible reliability.

Like my internet service (Tesco) goes offline every night a 9.. wtf?.. its a cheap piece of shit. The "free" modem they provided had to be disconnected and plugged back in every time I started my computer... I finally came up with an excuse to smash it with a hammer.. it was very satisfying.

Also the fact that they don't sell ethernet DSL modems at all.. its either poor wireless or this POS $10 for a dozen USB modems - what makes it worse is that the USB modems AREN'T $10 for a dozen.. they're $60 for ONE!.. WTF?!

Germany's T-Online system was much better.. Not one single problem.. and plus they use ethernet modems so I can use a freakin router!
read about polish isp's so we can talk about 3rd world...
