Chapter One: MEC

November, 2006. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, president of Iran, finally declares that the country has made nuclear weapons. He states that he will not use them unless pushed, as the US and other countries possess them and it is his right.

The UN meetings begin, but nothing is resolved. The threat of nuclear war is too high, and eventually they cut trade with Iran.

Oil prices go up, and Bush faces more criticism then ever. With Prime Minister Blair of the UK now handed over power to Gordon Brown, the UK is far less eager to go to war than ever before. The US is on its own, but for once has support of the most of the public, with the increasing costs of car and air travel.

February, 2007: While the army is mobilized, the Marines are sent to invade Iran, to capture vitally needed oilfields and prepare the way for the full-scale invasion. When the landing ships near the Persian Gulf, the full extent of Iran's plans come into play. They've formed the Middle Eastern Coalition. The main members are Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, the Palastinian Territories, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Oman, Yemen, Qatar, Kuwait and the UAE are forced to join or face invasion, and do. Egypt remains neutral.

India, fearing a destructive conflict, signs a neutrality pact with the MEC to prevent another war with Pakistan.

President Bush can't back down now. He continues with his invasion plan of Iran. The Marines begin the invasion of Iran at the Gulf of Oman, while the MEC armies are still massing. They capture a key airbase, to provide cover for the landing craft. Operation Clean Sweep, the destruction of forces guarding the entrance to the Gulf, swiftly follows, and succeeds, granting the USMC access to the whole Gulf, and a landfall in the UAE. They quickly push into Saudi Arabia.

Sharqi Peninusla provides a second foothold in Iran for the USMC. The MEC counterattacks, but is driven back after fierce city fighting.

Under pressure to capture oil, elements of the marines are routed through the Gulf of Aden, to capture the oil rich wetlands of Zatar, in Yemen.

With footholds secured in Iran and Saudia Arabia, The US push both east and west, to capture the large city of Mashtuur in Iran, and the strategic point of Kubra Dam in Saudi Arabia. Both places will be used as bases for further incursions into the countries. Then, elements from both forces will converge to capture the city of Karkand, on the Iran/Iraq border.

Chapter Two: China

August, 2007: President Hu Jintao, of the PRC, seizes the oppurtunity. With US oil prices higher than ever and the country heading towards economic chaos, he cuts trade with the US completely. Now facing a huge lack of oil and many other goods, Bush is forced to attack China to secure the extra oil he needs, and to prevent the US from falling of its throne as the world's most powerful nation. The US navy, mostly unused in the Middle East, sails to Manchuria with the USMC.

A treaty with Russia allows the US to attack Manchuria from East Siberia. They immidately head for the crossing point of the Songhua River, the mining area of Fu She and the Oilfields at Daqing. A seaborned landing in the bay of Po Hai alllows the US to take the Dalian Nuclear Facility. They attempt to capture the mouth of the Yellow River at Dragon valley, but are repelled.

Gradually a stalemate builds, with the dominance of the US navy allowing them to land more and more troops, and China moving more and more troops to Manchuria and Bejing.

Chapter 3: Wake Island

December, 2007: In a move reminiscent of Pearl Harbour, the Chinese equivalent of the Marines destroys the small garrison at Wake Island and captures the airstrip there. Bringing in highly advanced J-10 fighters, they begin destroying supply ships bound for Manchuria. USMC reinforcements for Manchuria divert to Wake Island to destroy the Chinese planes there and recapture the airstrip. However, it will not be easy. The first landing ship sent there is decimated by the Chinese artillery and air power set up on the island. A stronger force is sent almost immediately. The USS Essex, leading the assault, is bombed continuously by J-10s, suffering heay damage. But many marines launching in RIBs and hovercrafts capture both the North and South beachheads. A large squadron of F-35Bs eventually destroys the PLA air power, and the PLA forces, pushed back by both sides, retreat to the airfield The USMC land tanks, which decimate the PLA infantry. Finally, the airstrip is bombed to smithereens. The base is destroyed, but useless as an airbase without major repair work. However, with US reinforcements sent here instead of Manchuria, the Chinese are gradually pushing the US back on the mainland.

Chapter Four: Special Forces

Meanwhile...

Behind every war there are the Special Forces. The less publicised battles that were fought in many countries.

July, 2007: British occupation forces in Fallujah, Iraq, left over from the Iraq War, have sustained attacks by an Insurgent Warlord, a fromer member of Saddam's army. Any attempt to counterattack is met with the deaths of Iraqi civilians. This became unnaceptable to the British government, who sent in the SAS to capture the Warlord's compund and take out the Warlord himself. The compound was taken after fierce city fighting, but the Warlord himself escaped.

The same Warlord is discovered by MI6 in Syria, reactivating an abandoned airport. His purpose is unlcear, but it is possibly going to be used to airdrop terrorist cells into Europe. The SAS are sent under the cover of night, by parachute, to try and eliminate him once again and stop the Warlord. This time, they are succesful, capturing the Warlord and "convincing" him to reveal information about the new MEC Special Forces, who he had been working in co-operation with.

With this new intel, US intelligence sends the SEALs to Devil's Perch, a former sanitarium off the coast of Lebanon, where MEC Special Forces are constructing a base for European operations. The US attack by submarine, seeing it as a way to gain the support of Europe and start another front in Lebanon. The site is effectively captured, but while the battle raged, MEC Special Forces launch two, simultaneous attacks.

In an attempt to cripple the US forces, and gain valuble technology, the MEC attack the new Nuclear Submarine pens in Oman, and the USS Essex, docked off the coast of Dubai. The sub pens fall, but after the evacuation of the submarines themselves. The MEC SF are forced to retreat, as they lack the forces to hold the base. The USS Essex is occupied, but a swift counterattack by SEALs, who know the inside of the ship well, eliminates all the MEC SF onboard.

August, 2007: The MEC high command, seeking to gain allies and money in the war, secretly does deals with both Russia and the Chechnyan Rebels. They supply the Rebels with the tools to reactivate a Chemical Weapons factory and to build a missile capable of delivering the deadly payload. In return the MEC gets vast amounts of money, and stolen plans for newer Russian jets, tanks and weapons, allowing to build a newer military for their future grand plan...

Russia has close links with the EU, and has already allowed the US to use Siberia as a staging point. To help prevent them joining the war against the MEC, the MEC informed them of the Rebels' plans, double-crossing their allies.

The Russians, grateful to the MEC, secretly sent blueprints of their new APC design to the MEC via the Caspian sea. A rogue Ukranian independence faction had "somehow" found out about this convoy, and rigged a ghost town with anti-vehicle mines purchased secretly from Britain.

The SAS then sent in a team to capture the remains of the plans. The Spetznaz were sent in to do the same job, but the Ukranians had overdone it and nothing remained but burning hulks. After fierce fighting, both sides retreated.

Meanwhile, thanks to the MEC, the Russians now knew about the Rebel operations in Kazakhstan and Chechnya. Sending large, well-armed Spetznaz teams, the Chemical factory and missile launch site where quickly captured.

Chapter Five: Euro Force

January, 2008: On the First of January the European Union signs a pact to creat a joint military, the Euro Force. Although it only comprises around a third of each country's military, the combined force is very large. The most modern technology such as the Eurofighter, Challenger Tanks and the best weapons are given to this new force. With the creation of the EF, Europe becomes the fourth Superpower, joining the ranks of the USA, China and the MEC.

February, 2008: US forces in Manchuria are forced into full retreat. The US concedes that it has lost the war and begins to fortify the Pacific islands, fearing that the Chinese will retaliate. However, in the Middle East, things have been going very well for the US. After Mashtuur City in Iran was conquered, the US had a stable base. From there the country was occupied, and the MEC army pushed back to Afghanistan. The other wing of the army was pushed back from Kubra Dam and Saudi Arabia into Iraq. The city of Karkand is now the main base of the Western MEC army. So far it's been holding out, but the continued assaults will soon make it fall.

Resources are desperately needed in the Pacific to prevent a Chinese invasion. To help finish off the MEC, the US ask the EU to help in the war. Seeking to gain extra oilfields, the EU agree.

Invading Northern Iraq through Turkey, the latest EU member, the Euro Force begins Operation Smoke Screen. They plan to destroy MEC oil reserves and capture the oilfields for themselves. In the open deserts, large tank battles are the order of the day.

Trying to prevent the US from encircling Karkand, MEC tank brigades are slow to respond, and most of the oil reserves are destroyed. They make it in time to battle the EF, leaving scorching tank wrecks littered over Northern Iraq.

With the main MEC armour protecting the oilfields, the US finally storms Karkand, wiping out the last remnants of the Western MEC army. The EU forces, being driven back by the MEC armour, were eventually saved by the US army advancing north from Karkand.

In Iran, a US brigade turns north to assist the EU in Iraq. However, MEC forces in Northern Iran were larger than expected, and the US brigade was cut off. Now that the EF's mission was accomplished, part of the EF turned east from Turkey into Iran, to assist the US and eliminate the resistance in northern Iran. The MEC, fearful of being surrounded, fortify the only crossing point of the Taraba river, stopping the EF getting through. The US brigade was eliminated, but the MEC was weakened enough to be finished off by the EF forces. Leaving the assault in the east to the US, the EF occupied Iraq against local resistance.

However, the US once again pleaded for EF help, their retreat in Manchuria was being slowed by frequent PLA attacks. The EF was asked to attack from the north to ease the pressure on the US forces, and eventully link up, with the hope of stopping the PLA forces and remaining in China. MI6, using caputed intel from the ruined MEC base in Karkand, informed the Russians of the MEC's double deal with the Chechnyan Rebels and Russia. Russia agrees to let the EU march through Russia and to Mongolia to assist the US forces there.

July, 2008: The US holds the Manchurian coast, but not much more. The EF finally arrives after a long journey across Russia and attacks the Great Wall. While it may have stopped the Mongols, its no match for the EF, and they quickly overrun it, spearing into China. However, their supply lines are very thin, and a linkup with the US proves impossible. The US eventually abandon China completely, and the EU follows.

Chapter Six: Armoured Fury

September, 2008: Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, armed with brand new Russian-style tanks and planes, set sail into the Mediterranean. The US navy is completely comitted in the Pacific and cannot respond. The target is thought to be Europe, and the EU countries act individually. Instead of attacking the MEC Navy as a whole, they protect their own coasts. However, the MEC Navy heads past Spain and goes towards the US East Coast. The true target is now realised. Britain sends ships in pursuit, but all of its aircraft carriers are in the Persian Gulf, and it hasn't got the forces.

The US army is also mostly commited in the Pacific. Marines, National Guard and US Army Reserve units are sent to the East coast, but the exact landing place is unknown. The MEC make a successful landing in Delaware Bay. The Canadian Army, so far uncommited in the war, marches south from Toronto combined with US Armour. The MEC attack and take a key freeway junction, allowing them access for their tanks to most of the East Coast. From here, half move south to siege Washinton D.C, and the other half head north to meet the oncoming US-Canadian armour. The main battle ranges in the farmland of Lancaster County, where the peaceful civilians flee, leaving empty barns and cottages which are occupied and used for temporary bases. Thanks to the help of the Canadians and the MEC's lack of a real supply line, the MEC are defeated, although not without cost to the allied force.

The DC National Guard finally fall, as does Washington. The White House and the Capitol are triumphantly destroyed. But even the MEC know that the large armies pincering them from north and south are unstoppable. The MEC swiftly follow the fate of the capital and are destroyed.

November, 2008: With the US forces driven form their soil, the Chinese finally retaliate. Skipping the target of Hawaii, they head North and make landfall at Valdez, Alaska, near the Canadian Border. The US have stationed forces there, but they aren't enough. While the US Navy races north, the PLA's tanks and APCs steamroller over the American forces in Alaska, capturing Valdez, Anchorage, and Juneau, effectively controlling the state. Canada, with no forces even remotely in the area, eagerly accepts China's proposition of a neutrality pact. China, apparently satisfied with its conquest, begins peace talks with the US.

Chapter Seven: The Road to Jalalabad

October, 2008: Throughout the year, the MEC army has been battling the US in Afghanistan. For months they've been gradually pushed back towards the east fo their country. Both sides have taken huge losses, but the war shows no sign of ending. The EF occupies the Middle East and is unwilling to aid. Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, eventually falls. The only city left, before the Pakistani border, is Jalalabad. Here, the MEC plan to make their final stand. The US forces make an all out attack, decimating the city. But their supply lines stretch across the Middle East, and the MEC hold their ground.

Chapter Eight: Endgame

November, 2008: China and the US finally agree on a peace treaty. The Chinese will be allowed to keep Alaska, in return for not attacking the rest of the USA and the resumption of trade. In a surprise move, the Chinese declare alliance with the MEC, and state that any further action against them will have dire consequences for the US. Militarily crippled, the US knows it cannot hold all its conquests, and retreats to the Iran/Iraq border.

Chapter Nine: Age of the Superpowers

2009: With MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) no longer a way to avoid world war, the nations of the Earth begin to form superpowers. Everyon witnessed the countries of Kuwait, Oman, the UAE and others get dragged into a war, as they were too weak to resist.

The PRC and the MEC become full allies, creating the Pan Asian Coalition. Russia, despite aiding the EU army, is invited to join and accepts. India, geographically seperated from Europe and America, also joins rather than become isolated.

The EU invites the crippled USA and Canada into the EU, and combines all their militaries to create a much larger Euro Force.

The nations of Africa, protecting their oil and mining rights, create the highly unstable UAS, the Union of African States.

Although historically safe in WW1 and 2, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and Veneuzuela combine to form the SAC, the South American Confederacy. Most of the other nations swiftly join them.

Australia and New Zealand, traditionally allies of Britian, declare themselves allied to each other, but neutral to any future conflicts. This agreement is called the Neutrality Pact.

The borders of the World have changed. Eurasia is now split by the Steel Curtain. Alaska is occupied by the PAC. Religious barriers begin to be cast aside as countries ally simply for protection. It is the
beginning fo the Second Cold War, but that war is about to get even colder...

Chapter 10 - The 21st Century

World Uranium Sources
https://www.cameco.com/common/images/u101/worldmap_uranium.gif

2010s: The newly-formed PAC controls 90% of the world's oil supplies. With the industrial boom from World War three, oil demands are ever increasing. The EU begins construction of enough nuclear power plants to power the entire nation.

2020s: Incredibly low oil prices in the PAC lead to massive amounts of development. The PAC becomes the richest nation, overtaking the EU. The EU finishes its nuclear programme, and stops buying oil from the PAC. However, its is far poorer that it was due to vast amount of money spent on the nuclear programme. The economic balance of power is shifting.

2030s: The PAC's oil begins to run out. As prices rise, Bejing orders all states to begin conversion to nuclear power. The riches accumulated by selling oil at high prices is poured into this programme. As the greatest producer of uranium, Australia becomes the third richest country, after the PAC and EU. To keep the peace, they sell uranium at an equal price to both the EU and the PAC.

2040s: Gradually increasing levels of ice cause some to evacuate parts of Russia and Canada. The world is at its most peaceful, now that all countries have a reliable fuel source. In a resurgance of history, the PAC sell Alaska to the EU for the price of 10 billion dollars (about a billion in todays money). Without oil, Alaska is mostly useless.

2050s: Uranium begins to run short. The Australians raise their prices in response. The PAC switch to UAS (Union of African States) suppliers instead, but they soon raise their prices as well. The PAC, having used all its own uranium resources, invades the UAS across the Suez and in Eastern Africa. Unable to defend the PAC by themselves, they ask the EU and the SAC (South American Confederacy) for help, promising to cut supply to the PAC and supply only to them.

The EU, happy at its deal with Australia, refuses. The SAC, poorer than the EU, can't easily afford the Australian prices, and move to aid the UAS. They form SATO (South Atlantic Treaty Organization). The SATO and PAC armies clash in Nigeria. They are very evenly matched. However, waging a large war ina  foreign country is expensive, and after a year of inneffectual fighting, the PAC pulls out. SATO breaks up, but the UAS supplies uranium only to the SAC before...

2060s: Uranium exports stop. The supplies get to the level where the Australians and UAS, the only two remaining suppliers, need their own uranium and don't have enough to export. Nations have enough stockpiles to survive for now, and the world starts to convert to hydrogen power, always deemed too expensive in comparison to nuclear fission.

2070s: Ice continues to spread from the Poles. Much of northern Canada and northern Russia are now uninhabitable.

2080s: The spread of ice continues. Some believe it is due to large amounts of hydrogen being extracted from water, but nobody is quite sure. The EU, faced with dwindling amounts of usable land in North America, seeks to buy Central America from the SAC for a high price. The SAC refuse. The EU invades Central America, promising EU citizenship for all living there. The SAC abandon Central America and retreat south.

2090s: Most of Northern Europe, Canada and Russia become completely overrun by ice, rendering them uninhabitable. The gigantic populations of the PAC and EU migrates south. Southern South America beguns to freeze over.

2100s: World population hits 25 Billion.

Breakdown by nation:

PAC: 10 Billion
UAS: 5.5 Billion
SAC: 5  Billion
EU: 4 Billion
Australia: 0.5 Billion

The PAC invade Australia, to house their huge numbers of people. Australia, still under the neutrality pact, has little standing army. However, their large amounts of money built up from the uranium years allows them to hire giant mercenary armies based in the UAS and SAC. Eventually a treaty is worked out, which gives PAC citizens the right to live in northern Australia, at a cost to the PAC government. Australia, the strongest economy in the world, begins to make even more money this way.

Chapter 10: Countdown to War

2110s: A massive wall of ice has now formed, slowly covering everything in its path. Land that has already been deserted due to the intense cold now becomes completely uninhabitable. Land prices in the Northern hemisphere drop massively, as people start to sell their houses/land and move south. In contrast, land prices around the equator soar. Major northern cities such as Toronto, Moscow, Oslo and Helsinki become crime-ridden, gang controlled cities, as the rich leave for the south and the poor flood in. This phenomenon is known as the Great Reduction.

2120s: The PAC begins investing in UAS businesses and land, attempting to increase their influence there.
The UAS and the EU make the Cairo Agreement: EU citizens will have the ability to live in the UAS for free, in return for military protection. The agreement also contains a major clause: all PAC assets in the UAS must be frozen and returned immediately, and PAC citizens are forbidden from living there.
Both sides begin major armament.

2130s: The ice wall reaches northern Europe and covers Russia and Canada. The PAC now has only half of its original landmass, and its 10 billion citizens are feeling the squeeze as overpopulation causes outbreaks of disease.
The PAC invent the large colony ships, nicknamed "Titans" designed to quickly move large amounts of people out of areas threatened by the ice wall.
The EU invent the Mobile Rescue Bipedal Vehicle, nicknamed "Walker", which can run over terrain and free settlements with its ice-melting lasers.
Both sides copy the others invention.
As the fertile plains of North Africa begin to fill with displaced EU citizens, President John Mueller-Lopez, of the EU and Leader Raj Andropov-Li, of the PAC, meet in Sydney to try to avert war. Andropov-Li demands living space in North Africa, and Mueller-Lopez refuses, knowing that Africa can't support the vast PAC population.
The PAC has a short civil war as Southern Siberia province attacks China Province, further necessitating the need for war.

2138: Military spending in the EU, PAC and UAS explodes as war nears. The EU increase their military presence in the states of North and South Arabia, expecting the first attack to come there before the PAC spear into Africa. The Arabian states are the warmest in the EU. The PAC will attack them, but its true plans lie northward. The PAC implement partial conscription, giving them the largest army the world has ever seen.

14th October, 2139:

The Cold War begins. The massive PAC army, numbering nearly half a billion, splits into two groups. General Arkadi Petrov, with the largest force, attacks eastern Europe. General Shao Peng, with a smaller, diversionary force, attacks Arabia. The EU reinforces its two points of defense, Minsk (capital of Belarus now, and of Eastern EU in 2142) and Karkand, capital of Arabia. Battle Walkers and tanks are brought to both locations in great numbers. While the EU army is only about 100 million, they have large amounts of armour and walkers compared to the PAC.

3rd November, 2139:

Operation Canute, the PAC's spearhead into Eastern EU, begins properly with the Battle of Minsk. The EU have a solid front line defense of trenches and railgun turrets, and the EU 2nd, Krieg Panzer, regiment effectively hold back the PAC armour for a three months. The the PAC introduce their secret weapon, the militarised Titan. Previously a colony transport, they fit ground bombardment guns to the underside and AA turrets at the top. The Titan's incredibly strong shields allowed it to resist damage by EU UD-6 Talon gunships. Flying directly over the river to the south, they get behind the EU front line and decimate their armour with the Titan's guns. Falling back, the EU protect the city itself, but are defenseless against the Titans, now numbering ten. After another month, the city of Minsk is abandoned.

https://img526.imageshack.us/img526/9629/mapminskoverviewuk7.th.jpg

15th December, 2139:

Operation Mao, the attack on Arabia, changes from a series of small scale skirmishes into the first major battle of the Arabian Theater. The EU forces at defend the area around Karkand successfully, but PAC General Shao Peng begins to encircle the city. Faced with being surrounded, General Jacques of the EU retreats to the main command centre and Persian Gulf port of Karkand, which can be easily defended. The relatively small town of Karkand in 2008 is now one of the biggest cities in the EU.
PAC Type-31 Stalin tanks lead the attack, but in the narrow streets of Old Karkand fall prey to EU engineers armed with Pilum AV-Rifles. Walkers, backed by infantry, are sent in, and gradually pushes the EU fighters back. However, unbeknownst to the PAC, the EU have a company of A7 Panther tanks hidden deep in Karkand. As overeager PAC walkers get strung out, the tank company emerge, blasting the walkers to smithereens. They then begin to mop up the PAC infantry scattered throughout the city. A new PAC weapon, motion mines, are set up in ambushes all over the city, and tank after tank is lost by the EU.
Eventually both sides withdraw their armour, and sniper attacks become the norm. Finally, the PAC's overwhelming numbers win out, and the EU evacuate the port in any ships available. The battle lasted over a year.

Winter, 2139:

Lieutenant-General Hiroshi Toyama, commander of the PAC X and II Command Groups, splits off from General Petrov's main force, and heads South for Belgrade, the capital of South-East EU. With the fall of Minsk, North-East and South-East EU forces are in full retreat, heading to the capitals of Berlin, Geneva and Belgrade. The PAC meet little resistance as they spear towards Serbia.

3rd December, 2139:

Major-General Abdullah Ahmed, famed PAC walker commander, leads the 1st Walker Division across the Steel Curtain. With the EU forces in the area tied up defending Karkand, he encounters no resistance. His goal is the city of Ankara and NE Arabian EU (known as Turkey today). If he can take this section of land, Arabian EU forces will be cut off from Europe. Facing him is EU Colonel Peter Novak, who commands the 6th Armoured division. Ahmed knows that if he can reach Ankara, his walkers will outmanouver the tanks and destroy in the streets. As soon as he gets news of the attack, Novak sends his tank force, composed of old A7 Panther and the brand-new A8 Tiger tanks south-east, to a site of a tank battle almost 140 years ago. The site is called Smokescreen, but nobody knows why. Novak's tanks arrive first, and set up defensive positions on the hills and dunes. When the first wave of walkers arrive, they are massacred. Unable to cope with the extreme range of tank guns, and more suited to city fighting, the walkers have no chance. General Ahmed orders a full retreat, and takes his force to Karkand to assist with the battle there. Having won the first EU victory of the war. Novak leads his force north-east to assist Bulgaria and Belgrade.

1st March, 2140:

PAC forces enter Belgrade. They are mostly infantry, as the main component of armour and walkers have been diverted to Bulgaria to resist an EU counter-attack from Turkey. Unknown to the defending EU forces, the PAC infantry had been equipped with the new Shuko K-80 LMG. Belgrade's open spaces and parks provided plenty of range to use this weapon. EU infantry were initially pushed back to the ice wall, but General Emil Nikoli, the EU commander, secreted some snipers on the city's monorail track. High above the PAC soldiers, they wreaked havoc among the support gunners. By disabling the lifts and destroying the service ladders, the PAC were unable to reach the rail and retreated. Eventually, PAC assault troops used an APC's assault pods to reach the track. Left with no cover and nowhere to run, the EU snipers were quickly killed by Krylov bullets. The cunning General Nikoli now brought in his secret weapon - a brigade of AMV-2 Groundhog APCs. Smashing through the PAC forces, they drove them into full retreat. All seemed hopeless, but Toyama had a plan of his own - his walker divisions had returned victorious from Bulgaria. Adopting a V formation, the T-39s attacked from the east of the city, coming in behind the APCs and eliminating them with their powerful rockets. Nikoli had no reserves, and most of the city was surrounded by ice. While he fled in a Bandit FAV, the city fell.

July 10th, 2140

As Belgrade in the South and Warsaw in the North fall to the mighty PAC war machine, the EU complete the Branderburg Line. Stretching from the frozen Baltic Sea to the Austrian Alps, this network of defence is the EU's last hope to defend Berlin, Prague and the capital of Geneva. The EU had more armour in the North, but had only recently started mass producing Titans in the southern American EU. Anti-Titan missiles had been shipped to the front, but they would prove useless.

Lieutenant-General Toyama, fresh from his victory in Belgrade, surprises the EU high command by completing ignoring the EU forces fleeing from South-East Europe to Africa and Italy. Swinging North, he heads for Northern Italy. Forces from Austria are dispatched to reinforce the area, and the Brandenburg line is weakened.

General Petrov of the PAC sends in a massive 15 squadrons of Doragon gunships. The EU, expecting Titans, scramble Talon gunships to defend, but the Doragons have the advantage of height, and gain air superiority within a few days. The Titans swiftly follow, pounding the Brandenbrug line with their guns. Infantry are airdropped in to mop up the remaining forces. As the surviving troops retreat to Berlin, the way for the PAC lies open. And as the ice wall encroaches on Berlin from the North and East, the EU have nowhere to run. After two months of intense infantry battles, the EU ran out of supplies. After blowing up Capitol Tower to deny it to the enemy, they surrendered.

https://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/talon1579/th_Map-2.jpg

Winter-Spring, 2141:

After the Brandenburg line fell to PAC Titans, the remainder of Europe was open to invasion. Britain was frozen over and evacuated. Italians had retreated to Africa, while the remainder of the Southern EU army was holed up in Sicily, giving the Western armies and civilians time to retreat through France.

As France, Switzerland and Spain emptied of civilians, the EU needed to stall for time. Luckily, the first Titans were now arriving after their long journey across the Atlantic. The site chosen for the stand: Verdun

September 2nd, 2141:

Verdun was the first Titan against Titan conflict. The PAC, expecting little resistance, sent in a single Titan to begin airdropping forces. They were astounded by the defences that had been thrown up among the abandoned villages. A large wall, admittedly uncompleted, stood tall, and many anti-titan missiles had been placed. And overhead, the EU's surprise - a pair of fully armed Titans. As the PAC titan blundered in, the missile launchers opened up, severly damaging its shields. The PAC quickly pod-dropped soldiers down to capture the silos, but cunningly placed EU snipers cut them down. As soon as the shields on the Titan went down, the PAC began to retreat. But the EU, preparing for this, launched transports from their own Titans. teams of Spec Ops soldiers, armed with the brand new Lambert Carbine, infiltrated and destroyed the enemy Titan.

The PAC, shocked, sent another pair of Titans to overcome the pocket of resistance. These fell to the EU in the same way. After a month, the PAC armour arrived, and the EU went into retreat, heading for the evacuation point of Marseille.

However, the clumsiness of an intelligence officer left some EU plans at Verdun. They detailed the secret command centre at Cerbere, a small town on the French Coast.

January 3rd, 2142:

In the southwest corner of France, nestled between a mountain and the sea, lay the French village of Cerbere. Like most settlements it had been abandoned, civilians fleeing to Africa. But Cerbere contained a secret. It was one of many outposts, secreted by the EU, in case of invasion. Barracked there were the Hell Brigade, highly trained EU special forces. After the PAC war machine thundered by, they would strike at supply lines, harrying the PAC effort.

But the PAC now knew about the base there. General Yuri Vladomirovic, commander of PACommandos, used this as a chance to test out his new device: the IT-33 Optical Camouflage. Landing down the coast, the troops sneaked along the coastline and entered the harbour, sabotaging the railguns defending the harbour. Vladomirovic sent in the rest of his troops via boat from Spain [author's note: The border is just south of the harbour] .

But while the boats headed across the harbour, the EU were alerted. Large numbers of footprints in the snow were noticed by an alert EU sentry. The active sonar systems were switched on, and the harbour lit up with dots. The PACommandos, unknowing, continued to wait in the harbour. But a swiftly moved EU satellite launched an EMP strike, shorting out all the camo units. As the PAC came into view, the Hell Brigade charged them with their personal weapon, Voss Light ARs. The commandos, armed with Krylov FA-37C (carbine variant) rifles, took heavy losses, but managed to hold out until the arrival of Vladomirovic's boats. Throwing smoke grenades, the commandos covered the entrance of the boats. As PAC soldiers began to pour off the boats, the Hell Brigade retreated to the church. Believing that the remaining forces were trapped in the church, Vladomirovic ordered AT units to blow holes in the walls for a surprise attack. An entrance was made and the soldiers rushed in, armed with combat shotguns, but the church was empty - except for explosives. Strategically placed RDX exploded, bringing the church down on the unfortunate soldiers.

Vladomirovic wisely ordered a retreat to the boats, and the EU soldiers began to make preparations to evacuate. Unknown to them, a PAC battlestation had now lined up a shot, and launched a massive orbital strike at the town, levelling it completely.

Authors note: Firstly I would like to apologise for not having finished the story. While my writing style may make you think otherwise, I'm still at school and have had exams and coursework to cope with. However, three readers, Horizon22, superhunty and Solerized, kindly wrote a continuation of the story without even asking me, and I am including their story as they send it to me (well, with a few punctuation edits). Meanwhile I've decided to write the Northern Strike section, which I'll probably post afterwards.

The Africa Invasion

-Written by Horizon22, superhunty, Solerized and Talon. Edited by Talon

January 18th, 2142:

By now the EU had control of only Sicily, and were being driven out of Southern Italy by the oncoming forces of PAC Lieutennant-General Toyama. Toyama’s men quickly caught the remaining EU troops, who were forced to surrender while the remaining forces managed to retreat through a haphazard force of old sailing boats and hydrogen-powered landing craft. Among the captives was former EU general, Emil Nikoli. Rather than be interrogated, he atttempted to escape but was killed by overeager PAC soldiers.

On February 4th 2142 the EU forces were officially driven from their very own nation. General Arkadi Petrov, C-in-C of the PAC Forces, sped into the region to assess the prize that he has won after 3 years of tough fighting and almost 20 million casualties. He began to plan the assault on Africa, but that would wait until reinforcements arrived and supply lines established. By the end of February, the entire EU was under PAC control.

February 27th 2142:

An emergency conference was held between the remaining generals of the EU forces and UAS forces. They were expecting attacks from both Europe and Arabia soon. EU defensive lines were quickly established at the major Mediterranean ports: Tangiers, Algiers, Tunis, Tripoli and Camp Gibraltar, built in 2132 to process the vast number of refugees entering Africa thanks to the long standing Cairo Agreement.

March 4th, 2142:

The UAS forces, realizing war was entering their only territory bolstered up forces and committed themselves to the Johannesburg Accords, combining the remaining EU forces and UAS forces to be named as EUASC (Europe and Union of African States Coalition), which went by the EU for short. Included in this army were thousands of former mercenaries, now employed by the UAS government. These forces occupied key strategic locations such as Beghazi, Alexandria, Cairo and the Suez Canal, where PAC forces after several years struggling in Arabia, were setting their sights on. This sector was the Eastern Command Region and both regions combined developed the highly defensive Mediterranean Wall.

March 22nd, 2142:

A video council between General Petrov and General Munnokhoi, commander of the Arabian theatre after Peng’s death, takes place as an eerie cease-fire drifted over the world. Peng has fought his way thorough the Arabian Desert thanks to the new T-32 Nekomata tanks that allowed his forces to hover over the harsh terrain. With little reinforcements to speak of and with inferior technology, the EU forces were completely annihilated with the EU needing to save their troops in Africa. They agreed to have two fronts a smaller, diversionary front from Southern Europe, while most forces would be transported by Titan across from Greece and Italy west towards Israel and Jordan. This serious attack, known as Operation Motherland was to be a full-scale war on the African Continent. This involved capturing Suez Canal, which they were now in striking distance of.

April 10th 2142:

The first attack on Africa took place in Camp Gibraltar, which was still trying to process large number of refugees and had only a days warning to evacuate the battle zone. The PAC sent a small but considerable task force to the region. They came up against the 4th and 5th Armored Battalions of the EU. The dried up harbour was where PAC forces first launched strikes. Thie first strike was quickly destroyed earlier in the morning. A much larger strike force captured the harbour and set up a defensive cordon before deploying the necessary equipment to attack. The PAC commander, Colonel Yang Li-Sun had to show that this was an actual strike to make inroads into Africa. However the Camp around 20 miles away from major surrounding settlements was not the ideal place to land.  Many more relatively undefended places were up for capture so EU command immediately ordered a reconnaissance and intelligence team to check the PAC’s true intentions. An EU mole quickly set to the task and found documents containing plans for Operation Perun and realized that this was actually a deception. Major Ragnarson, EU commander of the camp, had to keep PAC forces there as long as was possible and double-bluff the PAC forces. He therefore gave the PAC room to advance and feigned defeat. The new Zeller-H Advanced Sniper Rifle helped to prolong the date of departure for PAC forces, believing that EU troops were now scattered. After 2 weeks the PAC realized they had been breached and launched a final orbital strike at the camp, rendering it useless.

May 1st, 2142:

Eventually the time was right for Munnokoi’s forces to strike into the mainland of Africa. Suez Canal, the natural border between Africa and Arabia, was edearly in the morning. Forces from Greece and Italy and reinforcements from PAC homeland made it the 2nd largest invasion in history, after Minsk. Type 32 Nekomata Tanks began to stream over the hills from the east, forcing the EU forces into mass retreat. Eventually they were driven over the last Suez bridge (all the others had been destroyed) into Africa. Munnokoi, fearing a trap, tried to send orders to halt the advance, but there was a communcaitons fault, and while an Ocelot jeep attempted to deliver the message the PAC tanks swept onto the bridge. The EU detonated the explosives under the bridge, destroying dozens of tanks. As the canal was at low flow, some tanks tried to cross the canal directly, but EU engineers armed with Pilum AV-Rifles, used so effectively in the Battle for Karkand, easily picked them off. Finally, the jeep arrived and comunications reestablished.

Munnokoi then ordered a trio of Titans to bombard the EU defenders. However, they had planned for this, and retreated inside a heavily fortified bunker. BTR-20 Yastreb Transports were sent, full of PAC soldiers, to take the bunker, but the new EU SAAW-86 AA weapon, secretly delivered to the front, made short work of them. Finally, Munnokoi called off the main attack and held his position, commiting EU forces to defend the Suexz canal and leaving the coast of Egypt vulnerable.

May 27th, 2142:

With full scale war now developing in the eastern sector, problems arose with power supplies for the troops and citizens. Dissent was starting to build in the already overcrowded UAS cities and several new, temporary settlements were built on the edges of the Sahara desert to house the EU refugees, while many others were drafted into the Army. The Economic and Population Committee relaized that current power lvels would suffice for only another 15 years. Therefore, in synergy with the European Union Power Board, they decided on new power plants, agricultural projects and terraforming initiatives. These were to be built near the town of Al Badya in Libya, Adrar in Central Algeria and upgraded at Sidi Krir, Egypt. Tidal devices were placed at the coasts of Africa while agricultural projects were to be constructed in Shuhia, North Egypt and Oujda, Morroco. These projects were codenamed Project Pylon.

June 12th, 2142:

Tunis was a major staging point for reinforcements that were being sent to defend Egypt and Suez Canal. Capturing this would eventually allow the PAC to spread out in all directions from Tunis, east towards the fertile plains of Egypt and west to disrupt NW. African UAS forces from invasion from Spain. The PAC, soon realizing this possibility began raids on the harbour. Fog, common at this time of year allowed the PAC to circumvent the defensive railguns and Rorsch defensive measures put in place by the EU navy. The location was key for refugees as well as naval repairs and armor supplies. The 8th Command Regiment, fronted by General Toyama landed north, with the EU trapped with the prospect of being driven into the sea. The Valkyrie Brigade, who were actually being supplied at the time were called into battle and their L-5 Reisig walkers were well suited to fight in the harbor’s densely packed region and narrow streets. Bandits and Ocelots sped across the harbour trying to capture key locations before the bulk of walkers would annihilate them. With the EU making spearheads into the thinly spread PAC forces, a last push from the Riesig walkers gave them a final advantage, and eventually a naval detachment arrived to aid the Valkyrie Brigade and the PAC surrendered. The Mediterranean Wall had not been breached.

Summer-Autumn, 2142

The PAC stepped up their raids on the Northern Coast, determined to make an incursion into the Mediterranean Wall. The battle at Suez had cost them valuable resources, which were so far, replaceable. Both sides were now locked in a stalemate with no indication of who would strike the next decisive blow.

November 11th, 2142

A day known as the end of WWI over 200 years ago saw a restart of hostilities in Africa. The PAC’s population was starting to fall slightly as the effect of warfare and uninhabitable homes took hold in home. Therefore the PAC generals decided that key strategic locations were now power and nutritional supplies. Most of these were located in Northern Egypt, behind the EU’s main contingent of troops at Suez, and Shuhia a newly built agricultural project was a target. Here, the PAC launched Titans across the Mediterreanean to obliterate nearby forces and gain a quick hold of Shuhia Tabia and the surrounding area. The EU also scrambled a batch of Titans to the region and another all Titan conflict broke out. This one however was to be much more deadly with new Titan destruction tactics reaching what many thought was their peak. The region would go on to be called ‘Titan Graveyard’. The EU 2nd Army faced six Command Divisions in one of the largest scale conflicts in the war. Ironically, this battle would last for over a year although PAC forces wanted a quick victory. This was mainly due to PAC forces and EU forces since the start of the Cold War were almost equal in technology and men. Little ground was made for months, and Titan after Titan fell out of the sky thanks to recon soldiers infiltrating their cores. New technology such as the NetBat systems, IPS shield and SD-8 Accipiter was used to great effect allowing soldiers to reconvene and develop tactics. The terrain in the area was hardly ideal for fighting with the EU controlling the hills with only two entrances and any Nekomata that tried to enter would instant be destroyed by Anti-Tank soldiers in the region. If the EU tried to advance however, the mass numbers of PAC gunships would quickly rise up and eliminate their troops, causing a large stalemate.

December 2nd, 2142

As the PAC confront EU forces at Shuhia, several Special Ops divisions track back west to launch a pincer movement against remaining forces at Suez. They destroy key operations equipment and then become fully-fledged soldiers attacking Suez from the East. The Eu forces could not cope with the extra weight and the EU eventually lost control of Suez, but with many EU reinforcements emerging from the Nile Province the PAC were unable to advance.

January 9th, 2143

The PAC began an assault on Sidi Power Plant, located on the coast of Egypt, to control one of the few power supplies that were now diminishing around the Earth. The thermal power plant, around for over 150 years had recently been upgraded to produce 40% of the EU’s population energy mainly taken to refugee camps that had sprung up around the Sahara Desert. With manpower short, due to the need to engage the EU fast approaching from the South Nile and to continue the war effort in Shuhia, only a few Special Forces divisions were sent to the area. Here they came up against an equally small-sized force in a depleted 3rd and 4th EU infantry division. The battle started slowly with skirmishes across the river before PAC generals realized the importance of the site. On March 10th, airborne and armored divisions were sent by both sides with the army sizes multiplied by about ten. The ensuing battle was to be costly in resources and casualties as another stalemate reigned across Egypt, and lasted for well over a year, effectivley stopping the PAC advance in Africa as both sides poured men and equipment into the battle.

Chapter 14: The Siberian Revolution

2142:

While the PAC army began invading Africa, trouble was afoot in the East. Large numbers of Russian civilians, driven south by the ice, were flooding into the PAC capital of Bejing. Riots and fights broke out between the lower-class Russians and the mixed race elite who populated Eastern China. Leader Raj Andropov-Li, whose term would end in 2143, cared little, and simply increased the security around the Leader's Enclave. When consulted by his ministers, he turned the problem over to the Second (deputy) Leader of the PAC, Raul Zhang. Zhang would be running for election in 2143, and was determined to solve the problem. He hit on the perfect solution: send a billion Russians to Australia. In the Brisbane Agreement of 2103, PAC citizens could live in Northern Australia at a cost to the PAC government. However, even Australia's vast resources would be stretched by another billion citizens. Australia also suspected that the PAC was trying to build up a secret army to conquer Australia.

November, 2142:

Although it was supposed to last for 50 years, Australia terminates the Brisbane Agreement 10 years early and gives all PAC citizens a month to leave. The PAC is outraged, and prepares plans to actually invade Australia. However, the Aussies expected this, and made a secret alliance with Ivan Beklov, self-styled leader of the PAC Russians.

December 31st, 2142:

The day before the general election, Beklov founds the Siberian Socialist Republic, which (ironically) is immidately recgonised by the Neutrality Pact countries, Australia and New Zealand. Millions of Russians, driven from their homes by the ice, flock to his banner, who proclaims he will destroy the corrupt PAC goverment and promises equality for all. The election is suspended due to the national emergency, but Andropov-Li decides to step down anyway before he becomes a target and Raul Zhang becomes the new leader of the PAC.

https://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/talon1579/th_asia-1.jpg

Spring, 2143:

With anger at the undemocratic rise to power of Leader Zhang, many PAC Guard units flock to Beklov's banner. Putting the vast population of the PAC to work, Zhang constrcts the Second Wall of China, a line of fortififications intending to shut the SSR in the cold wastes of Siberia. many believed that they would be reconciled, but Zhang correctly realises that the empire was too large.

Unfortunately, the Second Wall causes a PR coup about as large as the wall itself. Beklov uses it to inspire his forces, saying that Zhang is so scared of him that he hides behind a fence, and declares full on war immidately.

Zhang had no choice. The PAC invasion of Africa was called off at once, with troops retreating to Europe. These spare troops were rushed to the SSR border, where they prepared to defend against Beklov's onslaught. Driven by cold and anger, the war would last 3 years.

Chapter 15: Northern Strike

2143-44:

With the pressure of the civil war heavy on the shoulders of Zhang and the PAC, the EU and UAS finally had a chance to rebuild their forces. Factories in the Saharan Industrial Zone began to churn out thousands of tanks, APCs, walkers, gunships and Titans. With no war to fight, the EUASC army trained and relaxed in the warm African climate, while tired, war weary PAC soldiers began to freeze in cold Europe. But EU high command and President Mueller-Lopez know that they cannot live on the grace of the UAS forever. After all, they can only live there in exchange for protection - and if the PAC are no longer threatenting to invade (thanks to Beklov and his revolutionaries) then the UAS no longer needs the EU. Mueller-Lopez assures President Kitenge of the UAS that the EU will attempt to retake Europe in 2145.

2nd January, 2145:

In the early hours of the morning, numerous UAS invasion ships crossed the Mediterranean Sea, landing on Malta, Corsica, Sardinia, and the Balearic Islands, overwhelming the garrisons there and easily destroying the anti-Titan missile batteries. In the early afternoon 500 EU Titans carrying over a million EU troops flew across the Mediterranean to the south coast of France. The PAC's entire European Titan fleet consisted of only 200 Titans - the rest were in Siberia battling Ivan Beklov and his Communist Revolutionaries. With them were the PAC's most experienced Generals: Munnokhoi, Petrov, Toyama and others. Left in charge of Europe was General Ahmed, who famously lost most of a Walker division to a mere Colonel at Smokescreen. Believing that his Walkers could outrange the EU tanks if they stood still (for extra accuracy), his divison was slaughtered, earning him the nickname of "The Desert Cactus" (a testament to the many walker hulks left standing in the desert.)

January-February, 2145:

PAC forces, hopelessly outnumbered and outcommanded, went into full retreat from Spain and Italy rather than be caught between the invasion force and reinforcements from Africa. Large numbers of men poured into Germany, the command centre for PAC Europe. As cities across the south of Europe fell into EU hands, General Ahmed, operating from Leipzig, the capital of the occupied area, began to prepare his last stand.

March 7th, 2145:

The EUASC forces had to find a crossing point over the River Rhine. While they had many Titans left, much of the liberation force was still land-based. General Ahmed ordered all crossings over the river to be destroyed. However, the bridge at Remagen was destroyed incorrectly - only half the bridge was out of use. The official story was that there were no spare explosives that could be brought in time to finish the job. The truth was that it was a trap. The current EU commander, General Jacques, the "Defender of Karkand" (despite losing it), merely thought it good fortune and launched a spearhead at Remagen. Although he missed the trap, Jacques wasn't stupid. Assaulting a bridge was dangerous at best, and suicide at worst. Suicide was exactly what the EU's new weapon was built for. The A-3 Goliath carried 20 soldiers into battle, but more importantly it was a behemoth of weaponry, including anti-vehicle mines, anti-infantry turrets and a vehicle-mounted shotgun to destroy both infantry and barricades.

A pair of Goliaths led the assault, slwoly trundling across the bridge. When they were halfway across, numerous PAC soliders with AV launchers appeared, firing dozens of rockets into the IFV. However, the high-tech nano repair system kept the Goliath alive. Due to design constraints, the power cores for this feature were on the outside (for cooling). As the Goliaths reached the end of the bridge, these power cores, suffering from blows by misiles, blew up, leaving the Goliaths with no repairing ability. As a tank squadron converged on them, the battle turned in the PAC's favour. Strageically placed motion mines destroyed EU tanks and walkers by the dozen as they came over the bridge. Finally, the PAC blew the other half of the bridge, sending the whole thing tumbling into the frozen river. EU infantry attempted to cross the river in an attempt to save the forces standed on the other side, but they made easy pickings for snipers perched high up in buildings. Sensing defeat, General Jacques ordered a retreat, sending in a pair of Titans to act as a rearguard. For the EU, the battle became the first loss in the campaign.

https://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/talon1579/th_MapBridge_at_Remagen.Overview.jpg

April, 2145:

After this defeat, General Jacques decided to simply build his own bridge. But it wasn't that simple. Building a bridge took time, and while crossing the PAC could bombard them with Titan fire. However, a Major Adams of the R & D division came up with a bright idea - use a Titan as a bridge. Four Titans were flattened at the top, and landed in the frozen river, and the EUASC army went across.

Summer, 2145:

As the EUASC army was constantly on the move, they had little defense from PAC Titans, which appeared in groups of two or three, bombarding EUASC forces before melting away into the distance. Determined to stem the tide of losses, General Jacques ordered an attack on Port Bavaria, one of the major Titan resupply bases in Germany. Although the base was high in the Alps, an air attack would be susicide due to the numerous anti-air turrets. Instead, a detachment of the Hell Brigade, made up of veterans of the Battle of Cerbere and others, would use APCs and assault pods to attack the PAC from below.

July 8th, 2145:

Eight APCs silently approached the base of the cliff. The first wave of soldiers jetted up, landing in the Titan bays. Silently killing the sentries with Lambert Carbines, they held position and waited for the other two waves to come up. 150 soldiers then rushed into the base, killing many of the garrison and managing to disable most of the anti-air turrets. However, the defenders managed to activate a pair of walkers, driving the Hell Brigade back to a single hangar. The battle seemed won fopr the PAC, but the EU had backup - A UD-20 Lifter landed in the hangar, deploying a Goliath. Using the IFV's anti-vehicle mines, the pair of walkers were swiftly destroyed and the garrison surrendered. The Titian supply chain was broken.

https://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/talon1579/th_MapPort_Bavaria.Overview.jpg

Autumn, 2145:

With Titans and ships ferrying millions of troops acros the Mediterreanean, isolated PAC divisions were swiftly destroyed. Almost all of ice-free Europe was now under EUASC control, except for North-East Europe. With the Titan supply chain disrupted by the Bavarian assault, the path to Liepzig was open.

August 31st, 2145:

An EU Goliath, used to great effect at Bavaria, once again led the assault. But the PAC had defeated them at Remagen and would do so again. For this this final battle for Europe they unleashed their newest weapon: Hachimoto IFVs. These fast, two-man hovercars tore trough the ranks of EUASC infantry and vehicles alike, utilising hit-and-fade tactics to great effect. But the EU steadfastly refused to retreat, despite heavy losses. FInally, their Walker battalion arrived on the battlefield, having been delayed by a guidance system malfunction. Walker rockets slammed into everything: buildings, Hachimotos and PAC soldiers. Entire sections of the city began to collapse, making the terrain unsuitable for vehicles. Titans flying overhead deployed hundreds of EU troops ia drop-pod, who attempted to take the command building. However, most of the building was underground.

That's really nice, it was a good read. Sounds like a (i'll probably get flamed and called a terrorist sympathizer for this) loss for U.S forces in China.

You'll probably have to re-write it and say U.S forces won everything and anything to appease most people. It's a shame really. Let's hope it doesn't happen, after all it's only fiction for a video game and there's also something called free speech.
