I'm just curious, how many of you here actually coded the engine or the content?

Yea, I didn't think so...

How can you say its perfect.  You have no idea.  And I'd bet a majority of you, (no offense to any programmers here) couldn't even read C++/Java or any other language.

I'm sure the engine has bugs as well as the rest of whatever code that BF2 is executing.  All major projects involving thousands of lines of code have bugs. So I highly doubt you can say "I doubt there will be no major bugs in 2142", you just don't know...

You're right, I know absolutely nothing about programming, however I can make a few comparisons between games and observations about developer response. Obviously BF2 is a very complicated game, I don't think there has been another game that is as complex. As I result, I know there will be problems and I don't expect perfection. I haven't complained about glitches or bugs in the past because of it. I know DICE has been working hard on this game and I'm thankful it hasn't turned out to be another Battlefield Vietnam, although I also admit I haven't played BFV.

However, I'm worried that DICE is being forced to ignore tthis game now. It seemed we were getting close to 1.4 with the betas in early July. It is true that most of beta was Jalalabad, but its now late Auguest, the last full patch was May 23rd! 1.03 took two months, 1.2 took two-and-a-half months and 1.3 took two months as well.

I'm still deciding if I'm going believe EA's story of "huge last minute mistake." Its possible. But then again, so is their history of pushy devs to crazy deadlines and horrible working conditions. What I'm so angry about is how we barely get any news. I've followed only a few recent games through development and release, but it seemed like they all had more dev-fan interaction that this. Again, they were nowhere near as complex as BF2, but were medium sized dev teams with corporate giant publishers like VU and EA. I just wish we could get the word from devs themselves and not cryptic riddles from moderators on EA's forum.

apart from the wall glitching and the sniper reload animations being messed I have no real problems with 1.3

I do get some occasional warping in game, but everythin seems a.ok

The most glaring problem is the crash-to-desktop bug that happens when trying to join a game, lots of people have lots of problems with it. The wall glitching was already fixed in the beta patches.

I might find out when it comes out but not until I go to work on tuesday (bank holiday weekend here in England). I was reliably informed last time by someone at EA.

Thing is, Ive got a hunch it'll be out this tuesday anyway but I'll chase it up and keep you posted. It's kinda taking the piss now.
