my wife was addicted to myspace, she was on it all the freaking time, she neglected her chores around the house, even our own son to fuck around on myspace, it all ended quick when her pc, (my old one that could barely play Half-Life) met the cool pavement of Sunrise Street one dark Friday evening, she was even on it at work same with others, it was soon blocked.

The article seems to spin a fairly positive light for online social networks and their marketing potential. People are so used to seeing "MySpace got my child raped" stories that they don't even notice that this particular article is saying "social networks are good for subliminal advertising". Crazy.

As far as subliminal advertising goes... no drama, kids grow up and get cynical. They begin to see through it all. s'called adulthood I guess.

MySpace hasn't hit New Zealand quite as hard as other places, very few of my friends have accounts and I hardly look at mine. It's not realy all that great... I just did it to conform with Kim and Viper and Stryyker etc.

Honestly I understand the general concerns. People should have contact with actual people rather than just writing on the internet. Everything needs to be in moderation. Too much internet contact and not enough real contact makes Jack a dull boy.

Besides, it's sooo much easier to piss people off with physical contact I find. You can't throw rocks through a net connection either.

Oh, and goodluck with the subliminal advertising you filthy rich megacorps. It wont help much with the cynical generation that has come about (as somebody else mentioned.)

i dont mind myspace. i dont use it that much but like msn its good to keep in contact with people i dont get to see much anymore, they dont have to be online like msn and they dont have to be at home or launch any extra programs like email. but it'd be weird if someone spoke to their best friends ONLY on myspace.

people hating on myspace are like older people hating on video games or even older people hating on rock and roll. just go with it. there are gona be wankers no matter what the interest is.

It all really depends on how you use it. You can populate your friends list with nothing but bands and pop culture icons (Dane Cook, Bob Saget, etc.), or scour it for all the attention whores, or actually use it decently like I do. I use it to keep in contact with all of my friends from high school and college, and I never add anyone that I don't know to my list.

I do... don't mind adding some people from here to it. PM me for the address.... apparently someone already posted a link somewhere on these forums but I think it got deleted lol.

(If you look at my friends the top 8 are off BF2s, and the other bunch are people I know IRL. I keep them organized into these groups so I can keep in touch with people easier. That's basically the only reason I use MySpace)
