I AM NOW GETTING EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM!!!!!

I never had this problem before. I used to get some CTDs when I hit "join game" but recently I have just been hitting escape and I have had very few CTDs. But now, when I try to hit "join server," BEFORE the map starts to load, the whole game CTDs, but strangely the initial Battlefield 2 graphic that comes up when you double click the icon is still there, and BF2.exe is still running in Task Manager. I can rejoin the game, but the game is not loading the server. No matter what, I cannot join a server. Every time, without exception, the game CTDs when I hit "join server." Also, strangely, even when the BF2 disc is in the drive, the first time I double-click the BF2 icon it tells me to esnure that the BF2 disc is in the drive, then when I do it a second time the game loads. I have no idea what is causing this. If you find a solution PLEASE message me and I will do the same if I manage to fix this.

Having withdrawals from BF2............

OK I am tentatively saying that I have fixed the problem. I will write back if the problem resurfaces. Here is what I did.

First I went and I erased any software I had installed right before the problem began. There was only one, a cheap digital photo importer my mom installed on my pc that came with some super cheap 20 dollar digital camera my uncle bought her. I realized the problem had been pretty much since I installed the program so I uninstalled it. However, while I was in the uninstall menu I uninstalled all software I don't really use, including Spywarebot, and another cheap photoloader that came with my camera (use Picasa!)

After that I downloaded Avast! anti-virus and scanned all my harddrives. It found 5 viruses, i deleted all the files, but honestly none of the files were recent files and only one was even remotely related to BF2, from GameSpy Arcade, some .dll file known to cause problems for anti-virus software (I googled the file.)

After that I rebooted and BF2 worked fine the first time. I think there was some weird conflict with that cheap piece of software my mother installed. My advice to you is think of any software you installed right around the time you started getting the problem, uninstall it and see if it works. If you don't have an anti-virus download Avast! and scan all your hard drives. This was what I did I don't know which part fixed it or even if it is fixed, it may still come back. If it does I will re-post here with an update but for now my BF2 is working again. Good luck feel free to pm me.
