This thread saddens me.

Congrats on getting a handgun. I'm sorry you had to go through so much red tape and bullshit. That's ridiculous.

Hope more people wakeup and smell the roses in this country before we endup like asshat over there "Why would you need to carry a gun?"

I got news for you (richoxon). I will carry a Glock 19 by the end of the year, so that if needed in a situation, it would allow me to the best of my ability to defend myself or my loved ones from harms way. This isn't Rambo syndrom, and it sure as hell isn't a "Wild Wild West" type attitude. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I've been in a few situations as of late that would have warranted a gun, and I did not have one. While I was lucky, I can't tell you enough how hopeless it makes you feel when you can't do anything. I don't trust Police, because they have never given me the reason to trust them. Their response time in this area is 2 to 6 hours. Most situations involving needed usage of defense happen in 2 to 6 seconds.

My girlfriend getting robbed at her store was the last straw. Applications went in. I'm awaiting approval. She's next to get hers once she's competant with a handgun.

But back on topic. I hope it gets repealed.

And do check out a Sig P220, or even a Sig P229. Sig Sauer makes wonderfuly reliable and accurate firearms.

Gun permit????    are you guys, maybe gals, talking about Carry concealed?   or a pertmit just to own???  If it's just to own, that sucks arse.  I'm here in The People's Soclialist Republic of California and well honestly all we need here is ID to purchase a long arm and a BFSC (take a test) to purchase a handgun.  The 2nd Amendment is my "permit" to purchase.

Again it's an assumption that you need a permit to purchase.
Unless you live in the United Socialist SanFrancisco Republic of Retards  then it is a little harder to purchase a gun.   Plus California in general does have some screwed up restrictions in general, but surprisingly in some other states it is even more restricted.  Minnesota, for example, requires a permit to purchase handguns and a ccw is almost impossible.

Glad I live in Oregon.  We are not quite screwed up yet, but I can see it from here.

Damn, I feel sorry for you out there in Cali having your second amendment rights trampled on.  Here in Indiana you don't have to take any test to buy a handgun.  Why is a handgun test needed but not a long arms test.  Both guns work the same way.  We just need a permit to carry a handgun in Indiana, concealed or not. (Mine will soon be a lifetime permit for 100 dollars.)<-----Kick ass law

Just thought I'd mention this to the US gun owners. Statistically this is what you're likely to kill with your gun

1) yourself. 56% of all gun deaths are self inflicted
2) someone illegally. 40% of gun deaths result in the shooter being locked up
3) Your family. Yes, you're roughly twice as likely to kill someone you know by mistake than to succesfully defend yourself
4) right at the bottom comes self defence, a whopping 1-2% (depending on if you count the unknown intent killings)
