As if PC gaming wasn't expensive enough, Nvidia have unveiled a graphics card that will be known to shooter fans simply as 'God'. The $18K Quadro Plex 1000. How's your e-penis now?
You could buy a pretty decent sports car for that kind of money. Or, according to Nvidia, you can have 12 mega pixel hi-def video, and a card (actually it's more like a series of cards) that will run every PC game due for release in the next century.

"According to Nvidia, a node can achieve up to 64x full scene anti-aliasing (FSAA), deliver a performance of up to 148 megapixels on 16 synchronized digital-output channels and eight HD SDI channels. The firm says that the fill rate reaches 80 billion pixels/s while the geometry performance is rated at seven billion vertices/s."

The cheapest model starts at $17,500, and it just goes up from there! When they're released in September, we'll probably give a few away. Or, maybe we'll buy a house instead!

The only problem with owning one of these cards is you'd need about 20 of the latest CPUs in order to feed it data quick enough that the CPU wouldn't become a massive bottleneck. Of course, they're designed for integrated graphics computers and engineers, not really gaming!

If anyone out there actually plans to purchase one of these suckas, we'd love to hear how many of your children you intend to sell in order to fund such a venture. Of course, we do not condone such things.

Wow, I bet they would have loved having these a few years back when it was taking days to render a short video sequence for Babylon 5.

No, I won't be buying one.

I'm with Squirtle on that idea... but if I had 18,000 bucks to burn, I'd definitely go for one of those LOL.

It looks like a radioactive waste core unit container! That thing probably EMITS rads LOL!!!

Yeah, I agree though, WAY too expensive... but definitely a cool find. I wonder if what you say is true directly from nVidia's mouth though. A card that'll run every game for the next century? Sounds like a lifetime investment to me, but how technology is moving, seems more like "Run every game for the next decade..."

So I dunno, I'm skeptical, but still curious about this thing's assuming prowess.

1 word.....
Why?

Every game for the next century which at that time they will no doubt be lower in price. You know the whole competition thing. Being the first to by often results in over paying .

Wait a minute, they mention this card's more up for computer engineers and graphic imaging than it is gaming. This was more like a spotlight moment for this thing than it is for mass consumption, unless people do plan to go apeshit and buy one of them, and use it for BF2...

but again, I'd wanna see the results. "OMG BF2 @ INFINITE FRAMES PER/SECOND"

I would imagine this type of setup being "shared" through a network. I can't imagine it with one machine. But even that tech is future bound with sharing gpu's as a mutual resource on a network.

It does make you say wow.

Never thought about it that way but you're probably right. But if someone WERE to use it for a personal exploit... God... all those monitor ports! Person would have a room specifically for that thing LOL. Monitors all over the place, one seat, probably and "Audiorocker" one just so they can 'sit and feel the moment' ya know? LOL

Yea I pretty much figured it wasn't for the "gamer" market.

It appears more for streaming High def.

Holy shit! Why?!?!?!

And how are you supposed to take advantage of the full potential of this box of fake testosterone? You can't get that kind of performance through a USB port... and with today's resonably-priced processors.

For me, that $18,000 is going into a type rating in a Boeing 737... not a piece of plastic that allows me to be a fake soldier/pilot at 10000 FPS.

I'm getting one.... tetris and pacman won't ever be the same!!!!!!

the reason it cost 18 grand - 1.000 $ for the card... 17.000 $ for the USMC platoon, who will be guarding it..

actually is so powerfull, that if you're colorblind - this card will cure it...
