I just got a new hdd, its a seagate 250gb sata2 16mb cache.

I was not the 1 who got it to work i got my dad to do it all cause i couldnt be arsed

I have it all working but when i alt tab or ctrl+alt+del out of a game my pc freezes for about 10 seconds then its fine but when i want back into the game i need to wait another 10 seconds.

I have in my pc now 2 hdds this 1 mentioned above and a maxtor 120gb sata....(dunno what it is tbh )

I did think adding a new hdd in my pc might slow it down a bit but not this much

Before i put in my new hdd i could alt tab out of any game instantly and whatnot but now i cant

So is there a problem some where? im not to technical minded.

I have an amd x2 4600+, 2gb ram, so i couldnt see a problem but then i wouldnt

Please help

probably it isn't, he doesn't even knows what sata is....

BTW: sata allowed 3Gb or GB /sec to go through

whats the name of the harddisk?? it might have a very slow acces time.

using brains? raid needs the same disks, at least for 0 and 1

then it would be Jbot what makes it faster (just a bunch of disks )

Well, you don't actually need the same drives, but setting up a RAID with different size drives results in the array being built to match the smallest drive in the array, thus resulting in loss of space on the larger drive that is in excess of the smaller drive's size.

Have you tried defragging the drive?

Do the opposite - set the paging file to nothing for all disks, 2 gb is easily enough to fit both windows and bf2 in, as well as a host of other applications at the same time... I would also try installing the game on the same HDD as the OS - can sometimes cause issues when on the same drive...

Pretty much everything is on my old hdd, i only have 1 game on my new hdd which takes up 1gb.

I did the paging file and its the exact same =/

Have you tried running without the drive connected? if that doesnt solve the problem, it must be some setting that got changed when whoever it was put the drive in, or even something entirely unrelated to HDDs...

I doubt very much that the HDD is the cause of slowing, unless its like 70%+ full, and in no way is the powersupply the cause. What does the brand have to do with it? Correct me if im wrong but a power supply CANT slow or speed up your pc AT ALL . If it was a small shit psu it might not power the pc properly, but ive never heard of a power spike slowing or decreasing performance ON A HDD.  Second of all 500w doesnt mean jack shit- it mean that this pc user had more than enough power, unless he wanted 10 cdrs and hdds.

Ram will resolve slow jump to desktops, but you have 2gb...
IMO its during a ram dump/reload that something is taking up resources, maybe a new virus ? Possible a new GUI on the desktop? ( simply having settings on the game too high can cause this )
Try backing a few settings off in bf2 and see if its quicker.
If you can be bothered , take it back to when it worked properly , and see if its still running ok..
- IMO its 100% software based. Background tasks -

You might of installed software drivers on the second, and the drivers might have to be on the first? So it takes longer for it to find them..? anyways the PSU doesnt matter, like said, 500W is enough, your HDD doesnt need any special rail amp speeds really... one sixty hit it square, its gotta be software based.

And also have you changed the bios settings for the HDDs and stuff, putting it on the boot list and such?

4 of them in raid 0 works well for me.

But seriously, a new hd that's slow like that most people have said the same. Derag, remove page file, optimize windows, etc.

Yes, the Raptors are the higher-end of consumer drives, but Seagate is by no means shit.  In the real world where us admins have to maintain several SCSI run servers, Seagate puts WD to absolute fucking shame!

Dudes and dudesses... what's happening when hes switching is that data is collected from the page file and put into the RAM and vice versa. Nothing else really.
Soooo, now that he has 2Gb o' RAM, an EXTREMELY loaded Windows XP would eat up about 512, BF uses up to about 800 from what I've heard -> 512+800 = 1312 -> We don't need a pagefile -> turn it off and it'll be fine.

yeah, forgot that (A), but you need to format before you can do that and it would still make it faster

as for the problem try doing what people sayd: unplug that harddisk, see if its still there.
