In computer science, a memory leak is a particular kind of unintentional memory consumption by a computer program where the program fails to release memory when no longer needed. The term is meant as a humorous misnomer, since memory is not physically lost from the computer, but rather becomes claimed but ignored due to program logic flaws.

There are programs such as Rambooster that you can use to "defrag" your memory to free up current unused but reserved portions, but they are to be used with caution.

same as rambooster, works great. i got it running all the time, i let it "boost" my ram before i start a game from 700mb free to 830 (or 810 with teamspeak on, then its fine too ).

i dont know what the latest version is, its safe to use, it shows how much ram there is free in the box with the clock ect (forgot the name)

Run this free diagnostic...   http://www.memtest86.com/
Since most ram comes with a lifetime warranty, you can always replace if damaged.

None physical. But you may be required to reboot if you try to set the desired amount of freed memory too high.
