Computer game: Elite.  The original version on the BBC Micro.  Actually, not the original version - that was on a tape and the highest rank it allowed people to get was Competent.  (after 6 months I was still at that level) You needed the disk version to get further, so I got it, eventually.  2 months of casual play and I was Elite.

Arcade game: Powerball.  We had it in uni halls and I must have put most of my first year's grant into that machine.

Moongoose, the people who made that game have broken away from 'tendo and formed there own comapny a while back now, anyway, there going to me using the same engine or new engine to make simular games for consoles and pc, should lead to more fantastic FPS games, as you say Goldeneye was brilliant.

I was really into Doom and Wolfenstein back in the day. Scorched Earth was pretty cool too. Me and a few friends used to hijack the comp lab in middle skool and play these games. I always liked the MOH series. Played R6 Rogue Spear in a clan for years. Socom 1 for Ps2 is a classic. Pretty much if there was guns, i played it.

The original post with a picture of carrier command (which I spend too many hours on) piqued my interest. Then the very cool Pirates (and updated pirates) which consumed a large chunk of my childhood.

I'm surprised that no-one mentioned Dungeon Master - I spent way, way, way too many hours playing through the night with this:

Medal of Honor FTW! Although it really isn't quite old enough yet.

Microsoft's Close Combat series was awesome too. I've been tryin to get it to work on my XP computers.. unfortunately I guess its too old.

Flight Simulator 5.1 is another fav of mine.. it was my first computer "game."
