I have an idea to promote teamplay on BF2. If you are on the losing team in a round, your points, awards earned during round, maybe even rank earned during round; do not count unless your team wins.

Opinions please

It's an OK idea, a few problems though

-EA will never let DICE do this. It would upset so many people that wouldprobably put them off from getting 2142, meaning less money for EA

-I could do REALLY well in a round but not get anything counted cause my team was a bunch of fucktards

you just epitomised the point behind his post, play as a team, not an individual

What if your team IS a bunch of fucktards that will not do anything except sit in main jacking eachother off? NO.

press esc, wait the insane amount of time it takes for the GUI to load,
click disconnect, wait the few moments it takes to re-unload the game
click multiplayer, update server list, wait.. wait a bit more... wait a little bit more.. wait..
now scroll through till you find your favourite map.. and click join server

rinse and repeat as needed

Ooh an example, see that "and they say the f-35" blah blah balh thing in my sig? Click it. Imagine if we had never gotten onto the island and I just happened to keep their J-10's on the ground. All that grandness wasted because my team was sitting on the carrier.

Of course that didn't happen because I kept their J-10's down and so my team was able to make it to the island. But just imagine... *cue music*

i think that would lead to the most frustrating rounds ever as, in order to win and get your points, players would do any and everything in order to win. the most relentless spawn raping, hacks would be everywhere and people on the winning team wouldnt care, opens up a new dimension to stat padding with friends with a second account joining the other team and tking up a storm.....

a step in the right direction, there should be more incentive to teamwork, but the points you get already apparently aren't enough for some people and sadly i think your idea would just open a new can of worms.

Maybe be awards or promotions at a stretch, not point's though, game would be insane!

Ok. Awards and Rank would still count regardless. How about like the commander when he gets x2 for a win. Losing team gets -50% of points earned?

As far as it promote statpadding that needs to be enforced in the best way by admins. I would hope it would promote clans and team efforts. And spawn raping and all that should be minimized by the team effort. You should not get into that situation as much. Hopefully.

This is a direct way to address team effort. When you hit people in thier points they may think twice before leaving with the last Vodnik. "Gimme a ride!"

We all agree that team play needs improvement, however, the "how" is the challenge.

After reading about this topic in several threads I think there is a great way to do it - Incentives:
1} Commander of winning team gets double points {already in the game}.
2} Squad Leaders of winning team receives 15% more points for winning effort {people will want to lead}.
3} Squad Members of winning team receives 10% more points for winning effort {people will join a squad}.

There will always be "pros" and "cons" and not everyone will be happy except those who want team play -
{e.g. this system will encourage the removal of idlers, but at the same time not every server has or will use auto-balance}.

The next issue will be exploits {Exploits like EA's theme is the same - "IT'S IN THE GAME"}
- Sq. Ldrs. will stack a team {clans with TS} and lock it down.
- Teams will only want to be on the front line {like in Karkand} to get their points higher {point whores}.
- On every map change a lot of people will want to switch to the previous winning teams side.
- Etc.

There's one other idea I have and that's simply to give bonus points to everyone who does the following:
- To earn progressive bonus points {from 1% to 10%} you must join a squad, remain in a squad, comply with all Commanders orders and Squad Leaders orders.  If you refuse to comply with an order then you will be penalized a percentage of your points.  If you are unable to execute the order {i.e. ordered to take a flag but can't get to it because of defending where you are at} then there will be no penalty.

You can still set it up to only give the winning side the bonus points, however, I myself would prefer to use the bonus system for both sides.  Don't make an issue of extra points since it would be relative...

EA can use the same program they use for Commanders getting points for the teams accomplishments.

All this being thought-out and said, there's one big reason why it will never happen - It's F#%@ING EA/DICE !

Kaboom.

No,

would be a complete waste of someones time.

If anything to promote teamwork, give everyone 50 more points each for a win.

Or something along those lines, you get a bonus of 25% of your score.

The problem is myg0t. What if they raid some server where peeps are doing good, and rage the whole server?

myg0ts are a bunch of horny albeit castrated teenagers. They don't mean that much except as a cultural phenomena.

I like Dazs' idea better. You want to gift for victory but not punish for defeat.

i work alone people. i am mostly a spec ops player...

make my own squad and lock it. talk to the commander via VOIP if i can as much as i can..

ill help take flags, just need health packs, ammo and revives... nothing more beyond that.

i work alone, do things alone and still i win most of the matches. i dont want to be bothered or some noob in my team to get in my way.. spec ops work better like this.

It's impossible to win even if you're the best player in the world, if the rest of your team is a bunch of TKing noobs/assholes.

In a perfect world, this would work. But in reality, it would just lead to more teamswitching (which there is aleady too much of right now)
