Random question, but I don't have any tech-savvy friends so I thought I would put the issue out to all of you good people....

MP3s when uploaded via iTunes to an iPod have their filenames converted from;

ie, Enter Sandman- Metallica.mp3

to  NBSF.mp3

The ID3 tags remain the same so in mp3 devices and PCs they are recognised accurately, but for reasons I'll omit unless someone asks I need;

a program that which convert or (cut and paste) the song title in the ID3 tag to the Filename.

Basically so when I explore my mp3s the filenames say their song tittle, not gibberish...

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

when using i tunes just click

ADVANCED -> GET CD TRACK NAMES

and it will find the names for the selected tracks.

then plug your Ipod in then drag and drop the files into the Ipods tab at the side, once you ipod is updated it should all be alright.

Yeah, that’s for CDs though.

When they are stored in the iPod [show hidden folders]     Folder-  "iPod_Control" then Folder- "Music" .....

All the mp3s are stored here but the Filenames aren’t the ID3 tag tittles, just gibberish....

Answer: Don't use iTunes. Use 'Anapod Explorer (Full Version)'

With that, make sure the "Use filename format" checkbox is checked, then select the files, right click and do "Rename files".

I also came across this, but I didn't try it.

Now, these should nicely rename files for you based on the ID3 tag. However, I think if you do this on the actual iPod it won't be able to play the songs because it can no longer find them. To do what you want (I think) you would need to use a different firmware (eg Rockbox) to operate it. There may be other ways of doing it, such as using a different 'browser'/organiser. My friend uses winamp but a certain plugin wiped his iPod when he wasn't careful. I haven't tried either, though, so use at your own risk, make backups etc.

Hope this helps.
