Are you talking about Internet Explorer?  Please try to be a little more specific.

No.  Explorer.exe is the whole windows interface thing - the start menu, desktop and my documents windows, etc.  As for why it's crashing, I have no idea.  Have you scanned for viruses, malware and the like?  Is XP updated with the most recent updates and stuff? If yes, then I'm sorry I don't know why it's crashing

you can restart it even if it crashes by cntrl alt delete, processes, file, run(new) type explorer.exe and maybe thtll cut the annoyance..if you didnt know already :p

Dude, youd probably be better off just re-installing windows.  If all else fails, reformat .  But seriously, if it was IE, you could re-install the browser or use a different one.  But since its Windows Explorer (which brome beat me to the punch on) it probably got corrupted some how, and is best to be re-installed....which is probably done easiest by re-formatting.  My opinion.....   hope it helps

reload your os is the best you can do. If your one of those lazy mofos that bought their computer from dell well your screwed and probable have to buy the cd from them. Just reload the os depending on how fast your computer is cause sitting there for 2hours to relaod sucks. It only takes me 19min to reload

if he starts up and gets and EXPLORER.EXE  crashes, thats system explorer.  What kinda techs are you???

  iexplore.exe = INTERNET EXPLORER

EXPLORER.exe = Windows System Explorer (IE:  your desktop, icons,. start menu.)

Id reinstall windows, if its persistant.     Usally ill get this happening to me, like 6 times a yr or so.   And it usally restarts on its own with out an issue.    Usally it say u lost your active desktop as well.

edit 4 spelling, and i probably still fucked up some words

well your windows install sounds corrupted. check for virus, update windows fully, etc etc.

if it keeps happening, cntrl-alt-del , applications tab, click new task and type explorer.exe

and it will restart the shell

Good Idea.  I so trashed i didnt think of that earlier.

  AS FOR EVERYONE ELSE.   IM NOT TO FUCKED TO KNOW THIS ::  (PLS READ)

     IEXPLORE.ece    =  Internet EXPLORER       -  any ?'s

   EXPLORER.exe    =  YOUR WINDOWS SHELL  (IE:  YOUR DESKTOP, ICONS, SETTINGS "if mulitple users")

  They are 2 COMPLETELY different things,  1 IS WAY MORE SERIOUS THEN THE OTHER.   As for Iexplore.exe, its a worthless file, so fuck it.    It crashes or gets corrupted, delete.

  Now, try to delete explorer.exe  (PLS DO NOT REALLY TRY THIS, IF YOU DO, IT YOUR OWN STUPIDITY)
    Your windows most likey wont start,  Meaning : NO GUI (Graphical User Interface.)  Making your PC worthless.

So Id take BigglesPiP idea, and try that if its constant.   If its not, DO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT.  IF it crashes an comes back your OK.    But if it constantly CRASHES, REINSTALL WINDOWs.   Ifs its virus related, biggles Idea wont work.    Youll need a CLEAN install.    (WIPE EVERYTHING, START OVER)

EXPLORER.EXE = Windows Shells, YES!

IEEXPLORE.EXE = Internet Explorer, also yes.

Try Ending the EXPLORER.EXE process in the trask manager then: File > New Task... > "explorer" > OK.
It's a quick way to reload the registry if you've made changes (also recovers from a crashed EXPLORER.EXE).

You can also get each window (and windows) to run in it's own instance of EXPLORER.EXE (may help isolate the problem/make it less annoying). I'll dig up how if you want.

That would be a great time to plug that hard drive into another, working machine and run "chkdsk d: /F" [edit: in a cmd prompt]
(d: being whatever drive letter is assigned) just to be sure there aren't errors on your hd.
