I have 3.6GHz Pentium 4HT with about 2GB of Ram running with a radon X850 Special XT edition with upgraded drivers and overclocked.

Yes I do do some work in video editing and software constuction (not as a job seeings I'm 15). Sometimes I'm lucky enough to whip it up on my server (4GB, Dual Exon 3.2GHz). My computer at the highest settings runs it at about 45-60 fps.

Holy.... Nice, no, infact excellent specs!  Just wish I can have a computer like that   My specs are:
Ram: 1024mb
Graphics: Radeon XL X800 256mb
Processor: AMD Athlon 3000xp+
Hard Drive: 200gb

Im aiming to actually get a decent sound card and a better flat screen monitor, but I'm resonably happy with what I have.  I prefer playing the game rather than it looking perfect.  (I can lie to myself right? )

Can anyone tell me what the performance is like with a 6600GT computer with decent ram, processor and motherboard, and perhaps recomend what i should start saving for?

Definitely get an X-FI card!  If you are using headphones it gives you an actual sense of a three dimensional envelope.  I had my buddy try it out an he was blown away.  Plus, you can enable the ultra high sound in BF2 and it totally changes the way the game sound.  A lot more emersive and detailed.  The explosions sounds incredible.

use 2gb dual channel and your right.

I have:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ @2600Mhz
XFX Xtreme 7900GT 256mb @590 core and 1800 mem
2gb Kingmax generic ddr400
Creative X-fi Xtreme music

I run it with full everything (cept shadows and lighting on low cos they piss me off) at 1680x1050 at about 90fps

2x512's of cheap stuff but only coz my 2gig set of OCZ gold has been sent back for repair and ohhh boy can you tell the difference, went from everything on high except AA on 1680x1050 res getting 80-100 fps to everything on med and i still cant play properly for the first 30 seconds due to the game having a fit of screen lag. 2gig is deffinatly the sweet spot for BF2 it lets you quit the game without having 60 seconds of menu music looping over and over.

I read a little fact about BF2 and Vista yesterday, if you have BF2 running on Vista it will use 1.89 gb of your 2 gb thats without having anything like Xfire or teamspeak running.

I have one gig of ram and a not very good graphics card so I load not bad, don't stutter much but have to play on low settings for totally smooth gameplay.
