Well, this discussion is older than my grandma and all other threads have been hijacked to often because of diffrent opinions about whats better and whats not.

So please post all your thoughts, experience, favourites and other stuff related with those two brands in here! Including outcoming series, advantages/disadvantages blah blah!

not to say benchies aren't good ways to see performance but when i see some that say my system should play bf2 at about 140 fps (forget where it was someone here posted the link) and i really only get 85-90 it's hard for me to trust these. and also i'm in no way saying conroe isn't great just i don't think everyone in the world needs one. if no one buy's an amd proc, then they go under and intel becomes the microsoft of cpu's, no matter what kind of crap they make you have little choice but to buy it.

Intel is a very very large company and I think alot of people don't like it because of some reserved contempt for successful businesses. I've always gone with intel and their new Core Duo is absolutely brilliant. Both the Pentium D and Centrino Duo series do a magnificent job, but I feel Centrino Duo is just that much better because the Centrino architecture is supposedly better than the Pentium architecture.

It is, thats why intel is releasing core 2 duo so that they have a better and newer cpu than AMD's.

AMD will survive for the years to come, they had worst times b4 when they had to have major price cuts

As for desktop units AMD produced the better processors, more effective and cheaper.

Pentium M were always better than AMDs counterparts.

Until now - with the new Core architecture finding it's way into server, notebook and desktop processors Intel is going to take the lead at least for 2 years now.

No, he doesn't. He's Intel's biggest fan boy at the moment thanks to Conroe.

And AMD for now, see what Conroe actually brings when it's been around for a while.

Many people are too young to remeber the older CPU gens, and they only know Intel as the Pentium 4.

If we are talking about past generation CPUs, Intel wins by a long shot. The p6 design trounced the competition. AMDs ran hotter, and the prices had to be slashed to compete with Intel.

Current Gen- AMD. THe Current Athlon 64 Series is much more effiecnt and gives alot more performance. With Mobile Chips it is different of course.

Next Gen- Obviously the AM2 looks lackluster, and the conroe looks like a great performer. However, isnt that we said then the p4 was released? Who knows what AMD could pull out.

But if I had to choose one, Intel.

I've been burned by AMD too many times. Intel just works. If you throw a good enough GPU in front of it it does fine for gaming.

Would have to vote for both. In the wrong haul, they've both had good chips. I'll contintue to use whichever one suits a given situation the best....same as anyone should.

Kaosdad, I've been in that same boat. Typically though, it's the AMD mobo chipsets that I had problems with.

Same reason people hate Microsoft. Same reason people will always develop a resentment for the powerhouse and root for the underdog no matter how logic may suggest to the contrary.

While I don't mean to knock AMD at all (I have owned them in the past) their chips seem to be very hot/cold, and I don't mean their operating temperature. They're chip series are either rock solid performers, or kindling. They seem to be at a peak in their sinusoidal product line. ;-)

I clicked AMD because my good old 2400+ has served me for years. However with Core 2 coming out I can't say weather I'll be replacing it with another AMD chip
