I do if it is really, really cold out. That way my engine block and exhaust doesn't thermal cycle and crack. But only if it is really cold out. And I lock the doors when I do it. I carry an extra set of door keys for just such a thing.
I remeber someone doing this......the fireball was pretty, but 7-11 was gone, an I wanted a slurpee.......
I worked at a gas station for years pumping gas. A lot of customers left their cars running, it was never a big deal. Even today when I get fuel I always leave it running. It's just a habit. I never have to worry about anyone stealing it either because I use my debit card to pay at pump. I've seen the videos of people on cell phones blowing up, but I've never seen that happen in person. When I was at work you would see at least 30% of the people on the phone while pumping gas. I know it can happen, but it's rare. I never worried about it.
It's rare. Perhaps it wouldn't happen at all instead of being rare if every1 obeyed those very simple safety rules. People that do this kind of shit obviously haven't got the slightest bit of discipline and therefor they do not deserve to be behind the wheel of a car (which is in essence nothing but one big chunk of metal capable of acting as a weapon to kill pedestrians/cyclists and other drivers).bubbass wrote:

In case you haven't figured it out yet: No, I don't leave my car running at a gas station, nor do I use my cellphone (I don't use my cellphone when driving either) or bring a fire to a gas station (I don't smoke so I'm going for "fire" instead of "burning cigarette").
O, and the cell phone thing is a myth. They debunked it on Mythbusters a while ago. Getting in and out of your car without touching something metal is far worse than any cell phone could ever be.

You do need to be carefull with some of the newer cars. My parents Subaru, if you leave it running and refuel the vehicle, it triggers the "Check Engine" light because it detects the change in pressure in the gas tank when you remove the fuel filler cap.
This actaully happend to my parents once and to a couple other people I work with because they kept the car running for the heater when they filled up this past winter.

Doesn't matter with diesel, it needs more than a spark to ignite it.
