Ram, Help!

I am about to buy 1gb of ram, to add to my present gig.

However, it is a gig stick that i am going to buy, when my gig in my comp just now is 2 sticks of 512.

Would this affect anything ?

It also seems that the memory is specially placed on my P5LD2 motherboard, like the 2 512 sticks are in yellow slots instead of beside each other.

2 sticks of 512. if u can bump ur budget abit, u can get 2 sticks of 1GB ram for around 160 bucks (ddr2) judging from ur mobo, u are on ddr2 right?

Yes, im on ddr2. So are you suggesting that i should stay with a pattern, go with 2 1gb sticks or four 512 sticks?

not always, but with DDR2 - this is absolutely true.

it would be easier to upgrade for you, and get the same speed ram as ur using now, or just get 2GB of ddr2 800, they cost like 180 bucks now

if u just stick in 1 stick, ur ram will run half the speed then what it is now since ddr and ddr2 ram need to run in pairs

It's allways best to have all sticks matching.

You may actually slow your rig down. Just try it with and without the new stick and see how it goes.
