I bought a 6600 GT Yesterday and the drivers won't install. If I try to install them they crash the comp. Sometimes it appears that they got installed cus my res. gets reset to 600 x 800 and it freezes at the "Loading your personal settings" screen with weird lines at the top. WTF is going on. I reloaded Windows and it still doesn't work. Could someone PLEASE tell me how to fix this issue. I have an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 1.9Ghz (Which I think is the equivalant of a 3.2 Intel P4), 1gb of RAM and I downloaded this program called Everest to tell me what my Motherboard is, it's a Micro-Star International (that's what my new nvidia card is!) and it says it's name is : MSI MS-7124 (Medion OEM)
And I have no idea what a 12 V rail is, although I think it's got something to do with the PSU? I've got 220V going in, that's all I know.

Thanks a lot

What is the make and power rating of your PSU, and did you install the chipset drivers for your motherboard before installing the video card drivers?

Wow, thanks a lot for the replies. Emm, what 4pin power connector are you talking about? I'm not sure but mine is a PCIe card I think only AGP cards need that. And to agent, I didn't install the chipset drivers for my MB :S. Should I remove my ATi Drivers, install the chipset drivers and THEN install the Gcard?

Thanks

Well, none of the pictures I can see of the PCIe shows an additonal power requirement.  But it's been hard to find ANY pictures of it.

I'm trying to install my chipset drivers although I don't know what chipset I have. Could someone please tell me how to find out?

Thanks

I have the same card.

1) How many watts does your power supply putt out? and

2) download the drivers from nvidia.com, not the cd.

Ganko, I'm not sure how many watts (how can I find out?)

And yes I did download them from nVidia v. 91.31

Uninstall the drivers (ATI and nvidia) then manually delete any lingering files in the C:/WINDOWS (usually in 'system' sub folder) then restart and install the new drivers. Also, long as you have 500 watts your fine.  And if you haven't already do a virus/ spyware scan. Hope it helps.

Er I opened up and put the 6600 gt back in (i was using my ati x300 se and deleted it's drivers, aswell as the old nvidia ones before putting the 6600 back in ) and while i was doing so i looked at the PSU and it says the AC Input is 230-240 V and the DC Output is 350W.

Edit : Thanks, I googled CPU-Z and it says that I've got an ATi Xpress 200 (RS480)

It says that 350w is the minimum for that card... I know when I got my 6600 I ended up getting a 450w PSU at the same time. and while mine is AGP it did have a 4 pin power connector on the top of the card which I think was to power the fan.

That's an unstable CPU for sure.

Open up the case and take a photo of the power supply's sticker (box in the top back of the case).

This SUCKS. I just reinstalled the nVidia drivers hoping it wouldn't work. It got passed the "loading your personal settings part" and then froze at the desktop. GREAT -.-

F nVidia they suck, I should have bought an ATi card...

uhm, not really.  It's possible you have a bad card or any number of other issues.  nVidia doesn't make the card anyway, just the chipset.

Go into safe mode, scrub the drivers off, go back into safemode and load the drivers, reboot and you might just be ok.  This is all assuming you really did validate all the connections, yadda yadda.
