In case you didn't realise, it IS all about scoring points. Scoring points brings your rank up, gets you medals/awards, and unlocks guns. And, most people have a lot more fun when they score large. But some people also like being idiots and not worrying about their score...Nothing against them, but eventually, you wanna score pointsVeNg3nCe^ wrote:
I used to be a karkand nub who only cared about points..... then after 180 hours I realized how overplayed and retarded the map really is and haven't been on a 24/7 Karkand since
I play karkland exclusively for the same reason I played Lost Village on Desert combat.
Its focus is infantry and it is fast paced.
Its focus is infantry and it is fast paced.
I play it when I want to play whack-a-mole. Its easy to get points, its easy to do anything, very unskillful. When I am getting a beat down in SF with skillful players and better overall gameplay, I need to give my pixel something a little easier, I go to Karkand because it takes no skill. Then best thing I've learned is go to Karkand and eat your dinner or talk on the phone and play exclusively with one hand, then go to SF and you'll realize how much fun an FPS really is.
I still go to Karkand, but its usually when Im winding down or Im bored, because thats the only vBF2 map worth playing, besides Mashtuur or Sharqi.
EDIT: And no dhoar, not all of us play for points.. There is some fun involved. Ever try non-ranked? POE? But unfortunately most of us have to go to the ranked ones because thats where the majority of the servers and competition is.

Karkand is a great map. It has no air units, so armor dominates. I am an armor whore, I do not spawnrape but I do pound the flag so sometimes people accuse me of spawnraping, but those people are stupid crybaby noobs who don't understand the concept of spawning at another spawnpoint as AT. Flags are all close so games don't get boring. Its a great map for AT, Support, Medic, Assault, Sniper, even Spec Ops with plenty of jeeps for jihad jeeping. People who complain about nade spam are total noob idiots. If MEC is spamming nades at hotel flank them and cap Square, Train Accident or Suburb. In my experience nade or claymore spamming is a minor inconvenience easily overcome. You can get high points but more importantly it has a lot of strategy to it when you have good players and games are a lot of fun. It is so well thought out with so many entrances per base. The longer you play it the more secrets you learn. Also the map's color scheme is awesome the sky color, fog color and soil color make it seem so much like you're in the middle east. Does anyone know if there actually is a city called Karkand somewhere in the middle east? There is a reason it is by far the most popular map. Mash and Sharq are both great maps but they just don't have what Karkand has.
But that's you. I said some people have fun not scoring points, but EVENTUALLY you want to add points to your total. If scoring wasn't popular, we'd see a shit load of low ranks. You must have a pretty shit SPM to say that bullshit. So let me give you this little piece of advice...imdead wrote:

I agree with imdead, not all of us play for points. As I said I play the map because its fast pace and the fact that it is infantry the based.
And for the record my SPM is over 5.2, yet I don't see how this is relevant. Have some respect.

Oh my god...I take that +1 back. You have a THREE point 2 SPM! And why would I have respect for people on a video game?aLi3nZ wrote:

Well, well done to you. You have a 5 SPM. Do you want a medal? Do you want a pat on the back? Honestly, shut the fuck up and use that SPM to get into a RESPECTABLE rank. Until then...
Did you not read my post? I plainly stated that SPM is not relevant in the context of this discussion, yet you seem compelled to keep bringing it up.dhoar4 wrote:

Rank = Time / Nothing more btw

Because it is in the map rotation
I play it because I HATE helicopters and planes. I also HATE armor, but oh well I can avoid them o.k. I guess.
Karkand is just a wonderful map. Every location seems well thought out- from the tops of buildings' lines of sight, to alley ways, to hills- it's just a well thought out map. I love it.
I don't play for points, I play for fun, and Karkand has the most action.
My second favorite is definetly Sharqi- it's a close second.

I play it to kill time till a decent map turns up.
most infantry action you dont need to walk as much as in other maps
Its KIRKLAND!
I just like Karkand. And I do play other maps too..
Why wouldnt you just create your own squad??The Last Black Winegum wrote:

It's easier to play lone-wolf if there's no-one I know on-line, and no-ones forming squads, and it's like Black-Hawk Down.
without any Black-Hawks, ...... er... coming down.
Seriously, it cant just be me who thinks like this, but servers full of lone wolfs instantly annoy me. Immediately you know what youre in for; A dis-organised, armor whoring mess of a round. And heaven help you if this happens whilst on the MEC.
The last few weeks it seems to have got worse, ive been spending more and more time defending MEC commander assets and bases whilst everyone else fucks about at the trainwreck, or the hotel. However, it usually just ends in a 2 pronged raping, because no one seems to understand, that without the factories, the MEC are fucked.
I honestly cant work out why peolpe dont join, and stick with, a squad. I know I dont need to list the advantages here, but i cant understand the 'lone wolf' mentality. The teamplay guide in the wiki on this site should be mandatory reading for everyone even considering playing bf2.
But, on the otherhand, when youre not surrounded by asshats, then Karkland (im sure this was a DICE typo btw) can be awesome, and only bettered my Mashtuur. Sustained firefights, sometimes on 2 fronts, sometimes frantic bridge defenses/attacks, sniper hunting, armour v armour instead of armour v inf. And no bastard choppers. Excellent. But you do need a decent commander, and you do NEED squads involved.
Anyway, apologies, /unplanned_rant
Dunno, i play it in Server rotation but sometimes, i play it to make points.

+1 for knowing SoaP, it rocks

No jets, no helis. It's that simple.
I dont anymore ...the Hotel glitch has ruined it.....all the f*cking noobs, kiddies and for some reason High Rankers exploit it.....so I stay away
I hate karkand with a passion. For the fact that it is unarguably the most unbalanced map, MEC has little to no hope at all when the Colonels stack the shit through USMC. Karkand can not be called a good infrantry map, tanks dominate it, just like jets dominate wake. You have only really 1 choice on that map: Play USMC or get spawnraped the fuck through you (maybe 1 in 20 games a clan or a few good players decide to play MEC, thats when its fun). I played karkand today for the first time in atleast 3 months, went USMC the first round and got a fairly decent score, MEC the next and what do I get? Spawnraped 19 out of the 20 of my deaths. My score was 25/20 then, and I was spawn-killed 19 times. I used to think that was good, spawn killing the MECs and getting my score up, but then I found sharqi. That is an infrantry map. Very rarely on the servers I play on do choppers or tanks dominate that map (good chopper pilots dont come easy, while tanks dont have too much of an effect). You dont see much spawn-raping, and MEC has as much of a chance as USMC has.
Karkand sucks. For the people who play Karkand 90% of their time on BF2, how the hell can you? Its 1 long draining process - attack hotel, attack hotel, attack hotel, cap hotel, attack suburb etc. and for MEC, spawn at hotel, get spawnraped, and so on.
And the nades! oh the nades! Don't get me started on them. Its not just at the start of the round, its at every spawn, people throw nades to the spawns at suburb, everywhere!
The only realy good part in the map is fighting from train accident -> the 2 bases to the right, good sniping.
Give MEC another 2 or 3 front bases that will give them different directions to come from, instead of just 1 place, fro mthe front! Give USMC and cappable, and put 1 neutral flag somewhere in the map (make it a bit bigger), and an uncappable, then I will play karkand again.
To finish, karkand = shit. karkand = dominated by tanks and arty.
/end rant.
