Ok, I have a problem with my old pc.

Sometimes, on boot up, the monitor decides to turn its self off, as if there was no signal coming from the port on the back of the computer. It is not the monitor as I have tried multiple monitors and yet the same thing happens. It ain`t the graphics card, because I forked out for a new one and yet the same problem still occurs.

I think it is a problem with the motherboards connections or something?

If not could someone re-direct me with decent advice?

My old processor is a AMD 2400+ (2GHZ)
RAM : 512mb
Graphics : the old card was a MX440, now a 9600 PRO

Thanks,  Dan.

P.S The monitor does not phsically turn its self off, like I said before it was as if no signal appeared from the port at the back of the computer.

Have you checked in the bios for AGP adapter as primary? Also, have you ever enabled dual monitor support? It may be trying to switch over to the "ghost" monitor as primary

Also, is it a viewsonic monitor? I've seen some craziness with those where you have to turn on the pc, wait a couple seconds, then turn the monitor on so it doesn't go into standby mode. Experiment with that a bit.

Me thinks your Mobo is crapping out on you, i had the same problem with an old PC (my wife's now.. AHAHAHA) the problem turned out to the AGP slot, not the graph card, so a new Motherboard and it runs like a champ.

also if your monitors plugged into your pc's psu instead of a seperate feed to a wall socket it could be the psu on the way out not the mobo.

If you want to stick with Socket A, check out E-Bay for a Abit NF7-S v2.0. I run my 2400+ on one and it overclocks like a dream! 200MHz x 11 @ 1.725v.
